So glad this series is back, but I think there needs to be more conversation and thought on-screen (obvious this happens off-screen) around the choices rather than just walking straight to a bass or guitar and picking it straight up.
I agree, there's no mention of the old £1500 budget either... I used to like the fact they they could get some good gigable rigs without 'busting the bank' now it just feels like 'as cheap as possible' gear and any old bass, guitar, amp will do. It's not as interesting to me any more. Hopefully things will get better as it goes on and they start to find their own way of improving the show.
Agreed. The interesting thing about these Sounds Like vids is/was, for example, "I thought about picking guitars A or B, but I ended up going for guitar C because it has the following qualities that A and B don't have". Really early days for these two though, and I'm sure they'll nail it before long!
Cici & Dave are perfect for these "without busting the bank" episodes. I bet if you gave them free reign, Dave would still end up with less expensive gear than most of us would chose, and still sound better than most of us 🙂
I miss how Rabea and Matt used to discuss several options for the gear and kept track of the price throughout the process. It feels like we’re missing the discussion between Dave and Cici and just end up with the resolution. Happy to see the series back, I hope it improves as the series goes on!
To be fair, Dave and Cici have much better knowledge of low budget gear. I'd dare say, Dave could do a blind pick and mix and still come up with good tones.
@@Severinate yeah! They’re really well versed in the subject of affordable gear. That why I want to hear their thought process on why they pick what they do.
They’re nice people and everything but I do agree. I watched Rabea and Matt for years and it just doesn’t hit the same with these two, again they seem like nice people but this is just what I think from watching two videos
Would love to see one of these for Pink Floyd (David Gilmour/Roger Waters), Radiohead (Jonny/Colin Greenwood), Aerosmith (Joe Petty/Tom Hamilton) or The Beatles (George Harrison & John Lennon/Paul McCartney)

Dave is wayyyy to good at this kind of thing. This is literally his specialty, getting top tones out of solid state amps. He was born for this. Make sure you keep bringing him back!!!
Dave and CiCi are doing great! I only wish the rigs were still capable of performing a gig, thought that was a cool, and important part of the old series

My favorite part of the earlier Sounds Like was the shopping. I liked how the guys would walk through the store and talk out their thinking for they were choosing or not choosing the item. Would love it if you brought that aspect of the video back.
It does what it says on the bottle - on a budget. Enjoyed this video. Might get me a tape machine after this. Far more enjoyable than a video with an endless mega budget gibson, it's all in the fingers. These dialled into that sound man.
Amazing what can be achieved on such a little budget when the right hands are involved! Respect and thanks from me, the man with money to be 'all the gear, no idea'!
Really refreshing, simplistic & entertaining..... Your rig knowledge is second to none, keep it up both of you... RHCP by busting the bank would be fandabidosie, Cici as Flea would be magic....!?!?
It never ceases to amaze me how good players can use mega-cheap kit and sound like our guitar heroes. I spend a fortune chasing their tones, and never even get close....
@@TheFakeNewsFrog Yup, can't argue with that... but I've been 'practising' for over 50 years now, and am still at best a mediocre player. Messing about trying the latest kit is a sort of present to myself to encourage perseverance.
@@digitalchris6681 Don’t worry, I feel like I’m going to be you later on in life! I’ve got my first guitar at the age of 7. I’m now 24, and still can’t ‘play’. @@northernthrifter8817 I use a pretty basic setup at the moment. When it comes to tone, I like warm ‘bluesy’ tones. So I don’t tend to choose much in terms of pedals. By the end of the year, it’ll be a KittyHawk Amp, MJT Strat with pickup’s handwound by Seymour back in ‘94, a few BOO Instruments pedals, and an old Jen CryBaby. There’s not much to the rig, and as far as tone, I can dial in something I love. The problem is with my playing ability still. As I mentioned in my previous comment, I just can’t seem to sit behind a screen for too long learning guitar. My mental health does play an affect on that. As when I was younger I was locked away for 2 years, with the main form of communication being a computer. So it’s something I struggle to do without it becoming depressing. I think this video shows that when it comes to nailing a sound from an artist. It comes down to the players, and understanding the method behind how they got their sound.
