I use a reel and a float and line clipped off to my belt , if the reel gets spooled can clip from belt to gun instead of having a belt reel . , had my float out and a boat with two bogans in it came flying past my head with them screaming at me 😂 watch out people !
I like the idea of a float line but it gets caught in boat props because there’s 50/50 they’re going to follow the rules or come for a look. So I use the first rope to an anchor as it sinks so less likely to get caught then I shorten as necessary. I’ve been swapping it up between a stringer attached to the float and using an Old Man Blue SeaSac hanging from the float. So the float for me it is for marking an area but in saying that if I get any fish over 20kg where I am it’s a monster but it is sharky waters. I’m sure I’ll change as I see more people’s set ups and what works.

Drop weight with float, then fish area with reel.
