A great narrator always supplies a 'level of meaning' to the text which the text alone does not necessarily have. This is a great narrator's performance. I keep coming back to it to re-experience the story.
Ahh, another wonderful Ligotti addition. This story along with "Drink to me only with labrythyn eyes" Imust say are my favorites.,,,,,,,Again I will say it, keep on your path my friend, you have an ear for literature that not many can understand, or relate to, I love being a part of that exposed minority....
I never gave this tale much thought, until I heard you retell it. I ought to revisit grimscribe (or was this MOADD?) again, to see if I missed any other classics. Appreciate your efforts.
Hi Dorian. I'm basically ok. I'm sorry I just sort of vanished. I haven't felt up to recording lately for reasons that I can't completely pin down. Every time I settled down with intention (and it's been many times) I found some reason or other not to. I think maybe I just got sick of the sound of my own voice. I'll definitely have something up this weekend. I want to make it a long one to make up for lost time and I think I've decided on the story. I really can't thank you enough for your concern and support.
I've subscribed to your channel, bookmarked it. Occasionally I download the audio. I listen while attempting to fall asleep. Thanks for what you do-- your voice wields a peculiar curiosity, the kind of curiosity a disenfranchised adolescent employs upon discovering esoterica to get away from the reality of maturation; but that a typical audiobook narrator surely disposes of after having read the story over several times already. I hope you continue to record indefinitely. But if you don't, that's OK; I just hope it's of your own volition.
Very kind words. Thank you. I'm well acquainted with the search for "please distract my thoughts so I can sleep" material and I'm honored to be that. I'll keep going as long as They allow it.
I don't know if this is how you roll, but I'd like to request (obliquely, but sincerely, 'recommend') Meltdown by Nick Land, and, heck, any piece by The Last Psychiatrist ('Bad at Math', 'Hipsters on Food Stamps', 'When Was The Last Time You Got Your Ass Kicked?', 'The Plan Will Always Fail Catastrophically').
I listen to Victorian era ghost stories before sleep as well,I already have vivid dreams as is,what I love is when the stories I hear interfere with my dreams, sometimes awesome other times gnarly terrifying. Thank you for superior stories man/mam
I feel like the kindly grandparent slipping in an extra piece of candy. A Happy New Year to you as well. I wish you and yours nothing but the very best.
Great stuff, Love finding a good reader who will read modern instead of Public Domain stuff that has been done many many times. Do you by chance do any requests, I'm a bit of a Audio Short Story Connoisseur who can no longer read print but listen to audio and I absolutely love a good reader putting out good short works that have no other alternative in audio. Great Work Monsignor!
Thanks for listening. Modern works are tricky legally I guess. I had a Stephen King story taken down for copyright reasons last year. I guess Ligotti is in a deep enough niche that I can get away with it, at least so far. I'm certainly willing to take requests but I'd be wary of doing anything from a "big" writer.
Great, I'll put a short list of great ones below and maybe you will see one you'd like to interpret. Alan Moore - A Hypothetical Lizard Brian Stableford - Magic Bullet Douglas E. Winter - Splatter, A Cautionary Tale. Thomas Tessier - The Banshee Thomas Tessier - Evelyn Grace Whitley Strieber - Horror Story Brian Hodge - Alchemy of the Throat Grant Morrison - The Braille Encyclopedia
@@TheeLandstander Ligotti has quite frankly, little interest in the digital sphere and as a result for better and also worse many of his works have yet to be taken down. Grimscribe has recently uploaded a LOT of story readings.
The all-important element of the Divine Right is that it comes from God, or "the gods", alternately. And who were these gods? Authors such as Zecharia Sitchin, Sir Laurence Gardner and Nicholas de Vere are authoritatively convinced that kingship was created by an advanced race of beings called the Annunaki, also called the Nephilim in the Old Testament. These were the ones who created the human race and interbred with a portion of it to create the kingly caste which until this day has still maintained control over the Earth. These celestial creatures have been variously identified with Dragons, Elves, Fairies, Gnomes, Leprechauns, Sprites, Nymphs, Pixies, Angels, Demons, Devils, Witches, Giants, Vampires, Werewolves, and just about every mythical being you can imagine. Some, like Gardner and Sitchin, claim that they come from another planet. Others, like de Vere, say that they're multi-dimensional, or that they're from the Hollow Earth. Some, like David Icke, say that they are humans inhabited by the spirits of multidimensional reptiles, capable of shapeshifting into reptile form at any time. Still others claim that they were humanoid, but more than human, with pale white skin. The human hybrid offspring that they created as the royal/priestly caste was, according to most, the Aryans, who usually had red hair with green eyes - in stark contrast to the traditional Hitlerian vision. Nicholas de Vere, the leader of an organization called The Dragon Court which claims to represent this royal Aryan caste, writes, "the depiction of the Aryan (Scythian) as a tall, ruddy-complexioned blonde racist yeoman-farmer-warrior-god has no basis in truth." He further suggests that the "yeoman-farmer" Celtic, Gaulish and Pictish tribes which we now think of as Aryan were actually of a different race, but had hired the extra-human Aryans to be their leaders. These Aryans were also the masterminds behind the Indian, Hittite, Greek, Egyptian, Hebrew, Sumerian and Pre-Sumerian Ubaid civilizations. Many believe that their descendants can be found amongst the segment of the population with the RH Negative blood type, roughly 5% of the Earth's population, most of them Europeans. These people are often born with an extra vertebrate, have a lower than normal body temperature, and can rarely mate with one another successfully, suggesting that they may indeed be a hybrid species. Conspiracy enthusiast Arizona Wilder takes it a step further by saying, "The Aryan bloodline is alien to this planet... There are 13 bloodlines from this kind of stock (the Merovingians being one), and all of them have to a greater or lesser degree the capacity to play host to the Shape Changer reptiles." The other 12 families have been identified as Astor, Bundy, Collins, Dupont, Freeman, Kennedy, Li, Onassis, Reynolds, Rockefeller, Rothschild, Russell, and Van Duyn, with the rest of the European royal families being categorized as "Merovingian." These are the people referred to by the fanatic group the Sons of Jared when they "pledge an implacable war against the descendants of the Watchers, who as notorious pharaohs, kings and dictators, have throughout history dominated mankind... like super-gangsters, a celestial Mafia ruling the world." The Book of Enoch says that the sons of the Nefilim are destined to "afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle and work destruction on the earth."

i have been listening to this every night as a bedtime story.
I'm glad to help you lay down your burdens yet feel responsible for the terrible dreams you must have.
This is my favorite of Ligotti. One of the best intros to a short story I've ever read/heard.
Awesome selection dude
Miss your readings, please don't stop.
your voice fits this nicely

Such a kind compliment and well said
Thanks for posting this reading.
Excellent reading, thankyou.
As irritated I am at UA-cam for not notifying me when this video initially went up, I am still very excited to listen to a Ligotti reading. :3

Awesome work! Clear reading, great image, and excellent story!
Very good!
Having only read this for the first time last month, it was a delight to encounter it again, and this time, read by you.
Such a brilliant writer.
Thank you
Thee are you okay? You've not uploaded anything in some time. Hope you are well. We all miss you!
