Landing at Heathrow Airport (BA 747-400)

- I had made this video as my flight British Airways 747-400 (non-stop) from Los Angeles landing at Heathrow (London, UK). For some reason my window fogged in certain areas so I was only able to record through the bottom portion of my window. Popular London landmarks are visible (hopefully, graphics might be low and my camera doesn't zoom while recording) so, I hope the quality is OK. The movie has not been edited; it's my first video so, better videos should come soon after. ...ENJOY!!!!
Thanks for posting this ... makes me think about my last visit to see my family ... now I feel like its time for another visit. Brings back memories of how excited I was when I landed the last time about 6 years ago.
Thats so cool you admire and are proud to live in London... most of the Londoners don not know how beautiful an exciting their native city is.... I just cant wait to live there 4ever... miss u London city :-

I didn't think any city could look as pretty as San Francisco from the air but London certainly is lovely as well!

i flew into London this sep 2010 it was cloudy but i was able to see the london eye..

Great video! Have been to London twice, on Virgin(747) & United (777??, can't remember) from San Francisco! Thrilling the views one sees! I smiled at the sight of the London Eye, the Mall leading up to Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament/Big Ben! Touristy, but London!! Thank you for posting and for NOT adding loud music! Nothing like the whirr of jet engines! Isn't it great to finally land after that long flight! I need to go back! Happy future flying to us both!

I live near Tokyo. I have flown to NYC. I lived in London for 16 years. The latter truly is the city of cities.

Thank you for this nice video. It is indeed as clear as that letting us to see London through above . Cuz it is available to see the palace of westminister and Buckingham Palace fabulously or the streets of the city. I thought that it should be a great sense when plane touches down , just like : yea i am really in london right now!

City of cities, truly is. I live in Japan, wonderful place. But if you're looking at capital cities, London takes the biscuit. I always get a seat on the right when I fly back, more chance of seeing the great metropolis that way en route to LHR.
I truly did I was there for 7 months on that particular trip. I came back to the states and now I'm back here in England for another 5 months I would have liked to have made another video of my most recent trip here but I wasn't fortunate enough to get a window seat...Im glad you liked the video!!! :-)

Hey thanks for the comment, The video was started when the plane was heading East. We had to circle aroung greater London twice due to congested runway traffic at LHR; ultimately heading west for landing at LHR. this video was a product of our second half of our circle around Lonond.

This view would certainly cheer you up after your holiday abroad has ended..
Have flown SFO/Heathrow route, non-stop, overnight flights only. Took us 9 1/2 hours. Scheduled flight time was about 10, 10 1/2 hours. Get an aisle seat and walk around & stretch. Or, fly business. You won't regret it! That's a long flight if you're not comfortable.

This is really interesting. Great views of London. I Never get views like that flying from Ireland to London. We just don't seem to fly over the city at all.
Bulidings in London were built hundreds of years before cars were invented. So London doesnt have straight roads like New York. They were just paths for horse and cart. Thats what makes driving so much fun. A lot of roads in England are like race tracks, especially in the countryside.

What happened with you happened with me too. I live in the national capital of India, New Delhi. There are many historic landmarks here. I have visited the historic landmarks in China,UK,Singapore,Malaysia but never even card to visit places in Delhi itself. Like the Red Fort, India Gate. So, dont feel bad or ashamed. This happens with everyone =)
I like LHR because if the wind comes from west the planes have to fly over the City of London. And I like the view over London.
i didn't/don't want to leave either...I would love to live here in England long term!!

That's too bad I couldn't see London at night! (I did however see LA at night when the flight took off) But I already know what LA looks like ha ha...It was a very long and exhausting flight but yes! I was definitely looked after!! -Thanks!!

Yeah, Bedfont thats a small town right next to LHR (literally!) I have never actualy been there -(at least I don't think!!) I might have driven through it when driving on the M3 to London. At least you'll be closer to London than I am! Enjoy your time here in England!!!

Good video. You're flight must have headed west from Los Angeles, since Heathrow is west of central London.
Unfortunately, I believe it to be true that we know and see more of the world around us than our own city/towns. We often take for granted the locality of what we call our home. Although, this is not always the case! Thank you very much for you kind comment, even though, I'm American I love England and everything England represents...This is truly one spectacular country that I still have yet to further explore! Unfortunately I have never been to New York, Although, I would love to go! =D
Yes, however the flight flew over the most southern tip of Greenland, (I believe they call it a polar route :?)

I'm not quite for sure. I flew out of LAX. My flight from LAX to LHR was approximatley 11.5 hours non-stop!
@Gavestonful Thank you for this comment. I was back in America for a little while but I'm actually back in England for a little while. I have been loving the weather and especially loving England!!! (I will be posting a new flight video soon, but unfortunately we didn't fly over Westminster...but I will still post.) Cheers!!!

you are most welcomed. I actually wish I had family there. I would have a much better excuse to visit and even live (again) this beautiful country. Ususally I go to the UK for neuropsychology research however, I will be returning there again this summer for just plain fun!!!

That is the same with me. I was borne in Berlin and I have not seen all beautifull things in Berlin.
I believe it was a 12 hour flight...It was nice because we left LAX at around 6pm and didn't land until 11am (or so) the next day..I had plenty of sleep!!!
At the time I was using a Crappy Kodak Z10 (no zooming when videoing.) But, I will be using a Cannon A2000IS when I pay England another visit in June!!! Thanks for Asking!! =)

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but it was in fact a 747 with a first class upper deck. plus, I doubt a 737 would have the capcity to make a non-stop flight from LA to London!!! plus, the safety information packet placed in the seat infront of me clearly indicated a 747-400 model!!! however, thanks for the comment...interesting observation!!!

@1982FMJ if that is the case you should report so that the higher ups can look at it, not through youtube, most UKBA staff are doing their best and is generally honest, their job is on the line if they participated in such dubious practices.
London looksvery different, there’s no shard, cheesegrater, gherkin as far as I can see and a bunch of other London building

It doesn't work like that. So you are saying if a flight is from Beijing it lands from the East while one from the US lands from the West?
The direction you land depends on wind direction. If the wind is from the West, then you land towards the West. So a flight from LAX will have to go east of London and turn around to land.
