    I landed a Cessna 150 in Ellensburg, Washington, USA like this; the first attempt I rolled about 50 feet after touchdown. On the second attempt, I thought I could do better, and landed with the wheels locked and zero forward speed, and ZERO rollout, touched down stationary. Don't try this at home. VERY amazing to see an A380 virtually parked.

    Years ago when I lived in the capital city of New Zealand we used to go and watch the likes of the Foker Freindship trying to land in a strong southerly, the aircraft sat there for sometime before aborting the landing. I had one flight out of that airport in the 80s, we were told to be ready to get onboard at a moments notice, the Foker Friendship was being tehterd down in the wind, there was a brief calming of the wind and we were off loaded and away insde about 10 minutes, we had a tail wind all the way home to where I lived 40 minutes it took and usually back then it was 50 to 55 minutes flight. Love seeing the A380 magic aircraft

    Not really hovering, but the telephoto lens makes it look that way. Probably doing at least 100 knots ground speed. It would take a strong hurricane to make it “hover” and there would be no air traffic under such conditions.

    Flying into a strong headwind with zero groundspeed and adequate airspeed is a cool trick, but what happens when the wind stops or shifts direction? The airplane has no momentum, it would take a while to rebuild airspeed. The plane would literally just drop out of the sky.

    • @Khrrck
      @Khrrck Рік тому

      The engines are going pretty hard to fight the wind in this video. If the wind slowed or changed direction the aircraft would stay in the air and suddenly seem to speed up in another direction as the resistance was removed.

  • @iefly
    @iefly 2 роки тому +6

    Cool video , but very misleading description. Near hovering.? Not even close! Approach speed of an A380 is close to 210 mph airspeed, so the plane is going at least that fast in relation to the air. If the 65 mph was a direct head wind it'd be a 155 mph ground speed. It's still probably going faster than that (ground speed) since it's a cross wind and also the pilots may have had a bit more than "nominal" approach speed because of said cross wind. Then, of course, there's the angle the plane is approaching the camera and the telephoto lens that also contribute to the appearance that the airplane is moving very slowly. Again though, cool video to be sure. There's plenty like this on UA-cam.

    • @lexteakmialoki5544
      @lexteakmialoki5544 2 роки тому +2

      Agreed. It was in a severe crab, so it was coming straight at the camera but at the angle to the wind. It's like an optical illusion, you would expect it to move forward in relation to the roof in the foreground, but it was instead coming straight at it but angled. That is why on the Goaround it went straight over the top of the camera. All in all very cool indeed
