  • The 100 Island Challenge, a campaign by @scrippsoceanography, has conducted 8 years of intensive digital imaging and data gathering from 100 islands across 17 countries mostly in the Pacific Ocean tracking reef change over time. Using Esri’s ArcGIS Pro, they analyze marine ecosystem information and create digital twins of coral reefs using billions of data points to discover how coral reefs are changing. Through this work, they are uncovering new insights on reef resilience. These digital representations archive hundreds of thousands of coral colonies to make it easier to predict their fate. The goal is to share these insights and technologies with the island communities that manage coral reefs to accelerate ecosystem recovery.
