Knowing the game of basketball as well as I do, being from San Antonio, watching Timmy play in real life many times, no one I seen play the game of basketball like Tim did. He was literally 3,4,5 steps ahead of everyone on the court, every game night, for 19 years straight.. it's hard to find words to describe his game.. Jordan and Duncan, in my opinion, are the two best basketball players in history. Both sides of the ball.. . watching this man play and understanding his play, he's a true genius of the sport.
This perfectly illustrates why I love Duncan and dislike Shaq. Duncan was a complete, two-way player. On offense he could score in the post and from outside, and his D was outstanding. Shaq on the other hand didn't have a shot when he was more than 8 feet away from the basket. Sure, he could be highly effective, but it was all brute force, whereas Duncan highly skilled. Shaq was also inconsistent on D.
Hakeem Olajuwon was a true center who had a great fade-away jumper. He was also a great defender. Yes, Duncan was a PF-C, unlike Shaq who was a straight C, but they're both post players. Duncan was a highly-skilled, while Shaq was mostly brute force. I'm not saying Shaq wasn't effective in his prime, he certainly was. But as his athleticism diminished he wasn't nearly as effective, whereas Duncan still was.
You're talking about the Lakers Shaq. The magic shaq was very fast with good footwork. He was also good at blocks since he could jump so high. In Lakers, shaq put on more weight which made him so strong. He would score 30-40 points in one night, especially when other teams would clamp down Kobe a little bit.

Lol, what do u mean..?🤔 All his shots he made were practically under the rim on dunks and put backs. Nobody can guard Shaq because he was the biggest guy in the NBA at the time. All his shots and I mean all were possible by him bulling his way to the rim. There is no special skill set for that. This is why prime Shaq is not equal to prime Kareem, Wilt, Russell or Hakeem on the court. Off the court, he is clearly the best. He managed his money and he's so, so smart.
This years made shaq mad to this day.. saying TD is not great and webber is better and stuff.. must have hurt is feelings not being able to bully the great duncan ( top 10 player to me and number 1 PF ever)
duncan is good at catching little mistakes of shaq and draw those offensive fouls. I believe these highlights aside, duncan can't defend shaq 1 on 1 without help, while shaq can single coverage duncan with no problem
Shaq always had a hard time with guarding Duncan.. He was so bad that Shaqs coaches would try to keep him off Tim and play D on someone else. But when Shaq had to guard him, Duncan would fall back on his mid-range game and his pump fakes to get to the basket. He knew he wouldnt be able to out power him so he would just out play him from range. Duncan would create space off and pull Shaq out of the lane and drive by him. His footwork was too good for O'Neal. Shaq also made some stupid decisions on defense.. theres reasons why he was never voted to an NBA First Team All Defense.. unlike Duncan who was on that list eight times. Seemed to always be aggressive when he should be passive.. and visa versa. But as good as Timmy was at D.. he.. nor anyone else could guard Shaq 1v1 at this time of his game. He was too damn big and strong. A 7'6 Yao Ming even had a hard defending his shots.
Giorgio Bubuciacia, there one time Shaq guard TD & block is shot the Lakers could win...spurs got lucky in 2003 playoffs series, Lakers should have one
1225tdnelson, Shaq would made a First all NBA team , the only one Center sport, TD was a Forward & their two forward sport, so it was easy for him to a first team. In three different years, Shaq average over 3.5 blocks. The most TD had in one year was 2.0.
It really looked like robinson as a help defender on shaq is what worked. Duncan needed the refs to call the charge on Shaq and honestly some of the charge calls could of went either way
People talking about the Duncan's defense vs Shaq like it's 1v1 lol. He has majority of the team committing to him lol. Anybody can stop Shaq if he has to reset and constantly worry about 2 other defenders coming in to triple team he's gonna struggle to score at times. That help from the defense forced him to take jump hooks outside of his comfort zone. 1v1 he could back Duncan down EASILY and finish at the rim. It was more of team defense vs Shaq than just 1 individual . That goes from any player that has been that dominant in the paint. Lebron, Giannis, etc...
9:05 you see, this is what I’m talking about when I say Tim is overrated. Even when getting crossed the announcer still kisses Tim’s butt while Robinson is bailing Tim out. There’s a LOT of people who kiss Tim’s butt no matter the facts he’s not better than Shaq in any level.
The spurs never stood a chance against Kobe & Shaq during the 3peat. In 2003 Kobe and Shaq weren't hungry anymore. They had nothing else to prove in 2003. And the spurs took advantage in 2003. Beat the Nets in 6 games when the Lakers beat that same Nets team in 2002 in 4 games.
now everyone picture t wolves playing against these very lakers instead of spurs...they would get destroyed but not because garnett is not good enough but because twolves were not a strong contending team which proves garnett was the better player even though duncan just happen to have the better team. give garnett this very spurs team and dynasty lakers would have been defeated.
What? Lol. THAT very Spurs team got as far as the Western Conference Finals, where they met the Shaq and Kobe Lakers. I doubt exchanging Duncan for Garnett this series would mean anything Shaq and Kobe were phenomenal. Just watch the 1999 battle between Duncan and Garnett, prime vs prime, then ask yourself again who you think is better.
Unlike Duncan, Garnett wasn't so much of a team player. Garnett had as much as Duncan had in San Antonio. Guys like Stephon Marbury, Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith, Sam Cassell, Latrell Sprewell . They were all great players. But they just wasted all these talents that Garnett had all around him.
Tremple Arsen garnett is much of a team player he had marbury when he was young and he only had cassell and latrell for only one year which he loss to a laker team. Wally was an allstar but u need more than just him.
That thing I loved about Duncan is, he always let the game come to him and never forced anything… and it’s crazy how bad Shaqs game is anywhere outside the paint? He never developed anything outside the paint… just like Lebron. U really have to be a privileged player or “Superstar” getting calls ur way to help u get more points, cuz that’s the only way ur gonna get any other points… at the foul line! And Shaq and Lebron are both horrible FT shooters so they can’t really capitalize off that LOL

This is why prime Shaq is not equal to prime Kareem, Wilt, Russell or Hakeem on the court. Off the court, he is clearly the best. He managed his money and he's so, so smart.
Everybody gangsta until TD shows up.
Shaq is being terrorized by the big fundamental here.
Challenged? yes. Terrorized? No.
This years made shaq mad to this day.. saying TD is not great and webber is better and stuff.. must have hurt is feelings not being able to bully the great duncan ( top 10 player to me and number 1 PF ever)
Old man riverwalk the goat for a reason
The addition of manu and parker passed lakers
good find!
Is there no 3-Point-line?
It didn't exist back then.
your an idiot
It's in white. Just hard to see. I went to a couple of games back when they played in the Alamodome
Anthony Castillo Thank you!
didn't exist in 2001? alrighty. just wondering what that white line above the key is
You can tell shaq is having an uncomfortable time with duncan... he respects him a lot
Head to head battle suggests that both player cancel each other almost.
Yeah Shaq said that the only two players that he couldn't intimidate was Hakeem Olajuwon and Tim Duncan.
At 12:22/12:23 sums up what type of player Shaq is.💯 Smh🤦
Timmy is retiring :(
duncan is good at catching little mistakes of shaq and draw those offensive fouls.
A 7'6 Yao Ming even had a hard defending his shots.
if young shaq had prime shaq mentality, probably would be more interesting
nomooon , agree, Shaq is underrated defender
Giorgio Bubuciacia, there one time Shaq guard TD & block is shot the Lakers could win...spurs got lucky in 2003 playoffs series, Lakers should have one
1225tdnelson, Shaq would made a First all NBA team , the only one Center sport, TD was a Forward & their two forward sport, so it was easy for him to a first team. In three different years, Shaq average over 3.5 blocks. The most TD had in one year was 2.0.
did Shaq..dunk on Tim?
Shaq has dunked on everyone bro, not a big deal
duncan blocked a shaq dunk, twice that more impressive by a mile
Carlos Viteri ,yep, Shaq & Kobe took turns duking on Tim & David lol😂😂😂😂😂
It really looked like robinson as a help defender on shaq is what worked. Duncan needed the refs to call the charge on Shaq and honestly some of the charge calls could of went either way
probably the best basketball rivalry.
magic/bird??
LeBron vs the Spurs was better
Tim Duncan Defense on shaq
Double team every time
0:56 the patented Shaq Attaq
duncan underrated
The reason the Lakers dominated the Spurs was because Derek Anderson was injured in the first quarter of game 1, and was out the rest of the series
g5162 ,lol, DA, got injury in Dallas series lol
KOBE was the best defender on shaq, actually
No wonder he is the best PF ever
People talking about the Duncan's defense vs Shaq like it's 1v1 lol. He has majority of the team committing to him lol. Anybody can stop Shaq if he has to reset and constantly worry about 2 other defenders coming in to triple team he's gonna struggle to score at times. That help from the defense forced him to take jump hooks outside of his comfort zone. 1v1 he could back Duncan down EASILY and finish at the rim. It was more of team defense vs Shaq than just 1 individual
. That goes from any player that has been that dominant in the paint. Lebron, Giannis, etc...
Exactly 💯
@@fabiofam2 no.
wtf are you saying that David Robinson is not "anybody". Check the video of him defending Shaq, it is obvious that Duncan's defense is better.
Well no because Kawhi did stop Gianni's. Made him give up the ball a lot
Traveling by Shaq 6:00
Prime shaq dont stop!
All lakers clip. Duh. Where is the versus?
9:05 you see, this is what I’m talking about when I say Tim is overrated. Even when getting crossed the announcer still kisses Tim’s butt while Robinson is bailing Tim out.
There’s a LOT of people who kiss Tim’s butt no matter the facts he’s not better than Shaq in any level.
Lakers had the best team that year but spurs gave them a go. go spurs go
Didn’t he get swept this year?
Kobe-Shaq just not fair.
this series kobe was by far the best player on the Court
his numbers back that statement up as well..
Dat crossover at 9:05 by Shaq
9:05 might be the funniest dribble move i've ever seen. Gota love Shaq
he travel too
I imagine this is the best on can do on earth
SWEEP
2:14
They be saying ad would beat this man 💀
5:56 I mean.. cmon Duncan stans.
Just watch the 1999 battle between Duncan and Garnett, prime vs prime, then ask yourself again who you think is better.
what i've been saying for years. garnett was always a better player but never had a better team.
Ive watch both of them play garnett is still better
Unlike Duncan, Garnett wasn't so much of a team player. Garnett had as much as Duncan had in San Antonio. Guys like Stephon Marbury, Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith, Sam Cassell, Latrell Sprewell . They were all great players. But they just wasted all these talents that Garnett had all around him.
Tremple Arsen garnett is much of a team player he had marbury when he was young and he only had cassell and latrell for only one year which he loss to a laker team. Wally was an allstar but u need more than just him.
2:37 he has to foul the diesel😆
No hate on Duncan, I mean, how else you gonna stop prime Shaq?
Shaq dominated Duncan wtf y’all talking about in the comments
fake
You couldn't defend Shaq those days.
You could try for awhile. LOL
GOOOAATTT
shaq was beast
這才是NBA
Timmy the GOAT!!!
不知道有沒有看錯,一開始上將想跟歐尼爾碰拳,他真的很紳士或說人太好,不過歐尼爾也不是錯,他也是好人又搞笑,但球場上 他就是要裝一副兇悍不認人的樣子
Duncan was never able to defense Shaq. It’s the whole Spurs defended Shaq and that is how they lost to Lakers
Shaq was the best
That thing I loved about Duncan is, he always let the game come to him and never forced anything… and it’s crazy how bad Shaqs game is anywhere outside the paint? He never developed anything outside the paint… just like Lebron. U really have to be a privileged player or “Superstar” getting calls ur way to help u get more points, cuz that’s the only way ur gonna get any other points… at the foul line! And Shaq and Lebron are both horrible FT shooters so they can’t really capitalize off that LOL
Is it just me or did younger Pop look a little like Thibs?
Shaq had a hairline in 01?🤣
shaq is another world compare to robinson and duncan.i love duncan, goat pf..but no competition with shaq
yep.. i agree.. and that makes him very impressive as a PF trying to contain an elite and probably the most dominating big man the NBA had ever seen.
Lololol stfu idiot
Lol stop. Shaq was a monster in his prime but Duncan was a better player for much longer.
you just seen the video...duncan stopped shaq
He did, often. For a smaller man, he sure messed with his game a lot.
