You don't measure a snow drift. You go out into the flat open area and measure. I remember as a kid in the early 70;s in Maine. In our flat open driveway, All you could see of my Mom's old Rambler station wagon was the orange ball on the top of the antenna. It looked like a ball sitting on the top of the snow. For those that have never lived up north. The balls on the antennas were there so you could see the ball over the snow plow banks on the adjoining road at the intersection. With the snow drifts. It was up over the doors to our house. You could not even see out. My grandmother was panicking. We had to jump out of the second-story window to shovel the snow away from the doors. Us kids were sliding off of the garage roof and down the snow drift that was higher than the garage. Lots of fun until we had to shovel the driveway. After you get it all done the snow plow would come by and pump a huge pill of snow back in the driveway. Every time they made another pass. you had to shovel again. The shoveled snow piles were over 8 feet high. We actually had to climb up and shovel the tops of the piles off further onto the lawn so we could reach the tops to dump the shovels when clearing the drive again. We had the best snow forts that year. Multiple rooms. Great memories, but I don't need any new ones, thank you! LOL.
Thank you so much for your memory. People need to know that this is not so unusual and that this does not mean we are as so many have tried to say "IN the Apocalypse of our time.
That looks like a parking lot snow pile the plow truck creates with extra snow on top! They need to do a full scan of the area so we can see the real amounts! That much wet snow coverage can collapse a roof if you don't keep it clear!
Such a narrow corridor, it's amazing. South Buffalo got hammered. In Erie,PA we got some but meh,a little shoveling. Niagara Falls to the North not very far was fine.
Yep. It's the "warm winds" that travel from Detroit to Buffalo when Lake Erie is open, and then it hits cold air at Buffalo and the higher elevations east of Buffalo. Cold doesn't make it snow. Moisture and cold cause snow.
We lost power in SE TN for hours and that doesn’t make sense cuz we had no snow or storms at all here. Snowmobiling and skiing is a blast! We miss our northern states in the snow but we hate the cold n love the sunshine.
I love Lake Ontario in the summer but those same lakes can cause quite the mess in the cold season. I feel for the people dealing with such large amounts in a short period of time, and it’s heavy snow besides
@@jackiemack8653 I've been to New York it gets unbearably hot there too. Summer of 2008 ring a bell. I keep seeing all these videos of snow and wonder why when were usually covered we have none....right of the lake....Haven't got an inch of snow here in ohio.
It’s heavy due to the excess moisture in the snow. As an older person in northeastern NY, I decided 8 years go to get a winter contract that covers snow removal for anything over 3”. Also, as a former skier we like that nice light fluffy snow to ski. If it’s heavy you’re exhausted before you finish a run. 🙂
Leave it to a Californian from Sam Diego. I’ll bet you’ve nevah been up in the high Sierra in January, just hangin out in the Diego drinking margaritas
I'm curious if they stop Spring in the New York area? Cause some days out here in Idaho it is so heavily sprayed in a grid pattern. Oh and that condensation never goes away? Must not be frozen ice crystal. Lol. Always said? What if they stop spraying for a few months, see how different the weather becomes?
They keep measuing the snow that is blowing arround. No way is there 5 ft of snow. The parking lot she is in has drifts that aren't even 3 ft. The truck off the shot has less than 6 inches arround it. If they actually got 5 ft of snow you woun't see a plow truck go by doing 30 MPH
I've had a few friends who said their cars are failing right now.. but that's just anecdotal .. Not showing good results from electric vehicles right now.
Hello Snow BUNNY! Fox! Rock's Czar! what was it. only like 41 inches in a 24 hour run here in Cooperstown way back then and when! (If it were a song in Power ah Who Are You! rotate turret! NOT a Hochul Fan!)

I lived up there and I do not miss the days of sliding down the mountain just to get to work and Slip Sliding my way back up trying to get home. You learn early when to even go out and went to just say screw it and stay home. If these people just would have stayed home they would not be in that mess. So much for global warming. God is in control.
Depends on your definition of typical. It doesn't happen very often because atmospheric conditions need to be just right while the lakes are still warm enough to cause lake effect snow. But it's not exactly uncommon for Buffalo area, you can pick out many times in history where this happens around the great lakes.

It ploughed down to 61 degrees here at a undisclosed location 8 miles north of Mexico. Last year, we got a whole inch of snow! I grew up in snow country. Living in Sacramento I would drive two hours to ski. I have slept on eight feet of snow. I could return to the valley and see camellias blooming. The next day I could be walking on a beach. Exactly
That's not from a plow it's accumulation. Snow from a plow would look busted up and chunks everywhere. That snow is smooth and uniform.
Bring us some of that beautiful snow down South!!!.
