Considering the campaign takes place right before the calamity, and that the calamity lasted more than a hundred years, I doubt we'll see the fight between Gruumsh and Alyxian, as I got the impression that that battle didn't happen right at the start. I think it will mostly be the events preceding the calamity, and maybe also the siege of Vasselheim, since that was the battle that started it.

it would be perfect for a rapid character creator playstyle lol.
imagine having to directly contest with actual gods and your character dies regularly, so you're constantly rerolling. that actually sounds kind of fun.

Exu: Calamity was Brennan's idea and it's for the most part his story. Matt helped fit the lore, and he created the world and had broad strokes about the event, but Brennan was the one to pick this time period and flush out and prep all sessions and the actual plot.

you know what'd be cool? a age of arcanum/Calamity sourcebook of some kind, cause like, clearly this age is incredibly popular and interesting, i bet lots of people would love to run it

Just started watching Calamity, Im a Dimension 20 fan and came for Brennan and Lou. Very grateful that you filled me in on a lot of stuff that went over my head in the first episode.

    2 small points, no worries:
    - my understanding is that vecna was a lich trying to reach godhood pre-calamity, and wasn't a god a the level of the betrayer gods.
    - at least for the sake of critical role's universe and the general 5e "multiverse," there's technically a difference between how the gods are depicted artistically - the wildmother and ioun here off the top of my head are different in how critical role and how the other books portray them.

As well as the Raven Queen and some other gods within lore. Which is perfectly okay for a homebrew campaign

I believe Vecna came much later. He was a wizard to turned himself into an arch lytch and then saught to attain godhood, which he did at the close of CR Campaign 1, but was then banished behind the Divine Gate after an epic battle in Vassleheim. Everything else seems pretty legit.

although i agree that the Netherdeep will come into C3 in some way, I doubt that it will be a central theme of later on in the campaign because what Bells Hells do will affect how the Netherdeep will be addressed by Matt. Since "Call of the Netherdeep" details the layout of Cael Morrow and the Netherdeep as a separate demiplane (by the way, the book isn't a campaign guide like Explorers Guide to Wildemount, it's an adventure module), I don't think that BH will go through the Netherdeep because the layout has already been spoiled and people will know what the Netherdeep is like just by reading the book. that isn't how Matt has normally worked. it may be that the canonical lore may change because of the choices that BHs make, leaving aside what the group do in EXU: Calamity...

Firstly, this is awesome. It is probably the single most comprehensive and accessible catalogue of this information. That being said, I have a couple of notes on the information you provided. Firstly, Vecna was not one of the Betrayer Gods. He was a mortal mage who achieved Lichdom, was struck down, and eventually resurrected and ascended to godhood during the events of campaign 1. Secondly, Tal'Dorei was known as Gwessar during the Age of Arcanum, before Melora and Bane battled and the goblinoids were freed.

This was a great refresher to so many things that seemed familiar but I couldn't remember. But when did C3 mention Vespin Cloras (however you spell it)??

The BH found a diary of his in one of the more recent episodes. It was fake but imagine if it wasn't...

Well Netherdeep also has another Party you come across early on and basically can choose to be friendly or rivals and it helps shape the campaign near the end for the high level battles. So I think C3 is Call of the Neatherdeep, with the creator/Author/Company getting to really sell how complex it can get when combined with other stories from the same world Matt has built. Honestly from a business POV, they have the perfect marketing plan lol. And most have no idea they are being sold something lol.

I don’t think Vecna was a betrayer god or involved in the Calamity at all, as he wasn’t a god then.

Do I need to watch something before Excelsior | Exandria Unlimited?
I just started and everyone is super excited over things I have no reference too and hyped over some random person who looks like the sun.

  • @HenriqueErzinger

Vecna isn't one of the betrayer gods. He only became a god after the events in campaign 1, in Exandria. I'm not even sure he was alive for the Calamity, but before his ascension he was just a very powerful lich.

C3 had that scene where Fearne went into that fountain and it was a water world or something on the other side. Maybe that was the Netherdeep or a portal to it.
