- Weathering | Rust bleed, blistering and filtering.
Part 1.
A step by step guide to creating ultra realistic rust bleed, blistering and filtering of paint on a Bachmann mk1 roof to create a typical abandoned look. This method isn't limited to rolling stock and can be easily used on a whole host of items.
Join me soon for part 2 where I show how to create the ultimate realistic paint fade effects in BR Blue.
This video features products from both Vallejo air and Humbrol.
First thing a search brings up is this fantastic video, that looks amazing, and I desperately need to find my airbrush now.
As always Tim clearly explained and brilliant results.
Cheers Kev
Fantastic work Tim. A pleasure to watch
Thanks Kev
Bloody hell Tim that’s brilliant! 👍🏻
Nice work Tim....good to watch a master doing his thing...regards, Chris
Thanks Chris.
Great work Timothy, love the patchy rust coming though.
Particularly like the gunmetal coat first put on so when you "accidentally" go too far with your removal it looks right.
Top work
Thanks sir. Yep I quite like the metal layer as a base coat. Might have to seal it in so I never have any risk of going beyond that layer.
Great work 👏
Another gem Tim loved it, chum. just started to paint the track, cheers Paul at Sandling Junction.
Thanks Paul. You've got a fair amount of track now, should keep you busy for a while 👍
Great technique Tim
Thanks 👍
Love this!! Cant wait for part two! A marathon watch of your channel has inspired my weekend's "pottering", - though i'm sure the results of my efforts will be very far removed from what i've just watched. 😂
Part 2 in a week or so.
Good luck over the weekend 👍😀
Great as always. I shall be trying out a lot of your tutorials once I get my studio area back. Its being used as storage while I build new layout. But I want all my stock weathered and realistic. Cant wait to have a go. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing skills
Your most welcome. Hope your project is going well still. 👍
@@thescrapline4905 yes going well shed coming on nicely just got to wait a couple of weeks for electrician to wire it in for me.
Wow simply AMAZING i will be doing some weathering soon so your videos will give me a bit confidence when i start to weather my models.- Nicholas.
Thanks Nicolas. Glad it's all helping.
looks good tim keep up the good vids stay safe lee
Thanks Lee
Great effect. I'll have to give that one a go! And a massive thank you for the shout out to my channel 👍
Cheers and no problem. 👍
Wow this totally brilliant Tim, really love the work you’ve shown - such a great effect and one many people will have ago at I’m sure -
Just awesome 👍
Gazza 😁
Very impressive Tim. Thks for sharing. Now where’s my paints & brushes.....
hi there, really what i was looking for - phantastic weathering of the roof section!!! Do I understand properly that the roof is painted with acrylic paint and that you do the final ‘rusting’ by using enamel thinner? Never seen that technique before. Also the isopropanol is a great tip that I’ll definitely try during this Xmas time. Thx for the great tips on your Chanel 👍
Yep the grey was done with acrylic. Key is to let the thinners draw the powders out alone. Avoid brushing the thinner on to much and aim to lightly stiple it, thinner and acrylic don't normally go hand in hand and the acrylic can easily be pulled off.
You do beautiful work! Just curious, why you choose a gloss clear instead of a matte clear to seal the layers? I've always used matte to seal mine.
Done in gloss as it's an easier base to use for the next layer of acrylic paints. These are normally airbrushed on and most cleaned back. Matt varnish would make it difficult to remove anything applied on top. Once it's all done then matt or satin varnish is done to seal the lot in.
In some tutorials I've seen, they use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process between applying layers. Would that be acceptable with these methods?
Yes perfectly fine, also a warm but not blazing radiator is just as good too.
When you spray paint, are you applying the paint neat or do you add a few drops of thinner/water
The vallejo air range is ready thinned so straight out the pot ready to go.
@@thescrapline4905 Thank you
I like what you have done but why have music when you are talking
Thanks. I don't talk continuously through the video which would leave areas of the video in silence. Also the music is slow pace rather than upbeat which is set at a fairly low volume and all my weathering videos follow the same format with that same track.
