    A number of years ago, my wife, who is half Latina, and half Native American, was pulled over by Arpaio's goons. She spent 4 hours on the side of the road, in handcuffs while they tore her car apart while asking her for her papers, and where the drugs were. Eventually there were 3 cop cars and a K9 unit, and 6 cops milling around sucking up taxpayer dollars. Then, without a word of explanation or apology, they uncuffed her, got in their cars, and left.
    As far as I'm concerned, Arpaio will never be dead enough.

      . Except for the fact that under Arpaio, Latinos were disproportionately detained, profiled with no basis other than their skin color, and once detained they, along with everybody else in county jail, suffered cruel and unusual punishment, even while just awaiting trial. So yeah, undocumented or not, you should be pretty fucking worried if you were a latino in that county.

      There's actually some legal ambiguity on that point. While the conventional interpretation is that that's the case, there is nothing in the law that actually limits the president's pardoning power to the guilty.
      The president could pardon me of kidnapping the Lindenburg baby and I could accept that pardon. No reasonable person would conclude that I was actually guilty of that crime regardless of my plea.
      I think it's a minority opinion among legal scholars that it can work that way but it isn't wholly unheard of among those who debate the topic.

    John Adams, at the close of the Revolutionary War, was called a traitor for standing up for the rights and liberties of British soldiers. When he tried to protect them, legally, from unconstitutional punishments, he was branded a traitor by many. His reasoning was, "We cannot say that we stand for liberty if we only stand for our own liberty."
    I'm a student preparing to become an attorney, and the point of criminal defense is to ensure that a criminal's rights are not infringed upon. That's the point. We aren't saying you shouldn't enforce the laws, we're saying you shouldn't infringe upon the rights still retained by criminals, and you shouldn't infringe upon the rights of ordinary people just because you think they're a criminal.

I'm a descendant of Adams and more than writing his states constitution or helping win the revolutionary war or eventually becoming President (arguably a failed one, arguably a man doing the best with a crappy situation) The stand he took against unethical treatment and prosecution of British Soldiers is in my opinion, his proudest moment.

    You know what kills me inside? Arpaio's office was accused of ignoring Sabrina Morrison, a teenage girl suffering from a mental disability. On March 7, 2007, the 13-year-old was raped by her uncle, Patrick Morrison. She told her teacher the next day, and her teacher called the MCSO. A rape kit was taken, but the detective assigned to the case told Sabrina and her family that there were no obvious signs of sexual assault, no semen, or signs of trauma.
    As a result of the detective's statements, Sabrina was branded by her family as a liar. Her uncle continued to rape her repeatedly, saying he would kill her if she told anyone. She became pregnant by him, and had an abortion. The family did not know that the rape kit had been tested at the state lab and showed the presence of semen. The lab requested that the detective obtain a blood sample from the suspect, Patrick Morrison. Instead of obtaining the blood sample, or making an arrest, the detective filed the crime-lab note and closed the case for four years. And while the uncle was eventually put in prison, I can't help but wonder what's going on in her mind now that Arpaio was pardoned.

      Wow I was just about the comment the same thing. Honestly for years I had no interest at all in politics. I hate both sides think they have some pros but a lot more cons. So I never gave a shit who was elected it never gonna make the country that much better or worse at least in my eyes. It wasn't until my GMA moved into my house a year and a half ago who is obsessed with watching the news. That was when I finally started actually be basically forced into listening to Trump. And was when I realized WTF do we have for a president. I hated Hillary to so just figured due to never locking into anything how bad could Trump really be compared to her. After listening to him speak for a only a few days I started to just want to yell at my TV whenever he was on it. And now just recently I got into this show I always liked John but never much cared for this show as I had zero interest in politics. But due to how much my hatred for Trump grew I began to binge watch all these videos on UA-cam. Just so I could learn more about how truly fucked up Trump is not only as a president but as a human being. Just came across this video today. And when I went to look into Joe Arpaio I came across this same story.
      As well as the 400 other cases of rape that his office did little to nothing about on almost all of them. The 32 cases of children being raped where his office in fact literally did nothing about because they were Hispanic children who were raped. Even though in 28 of those cases they had legit suspects yet his office never once questioned any of the suspects never went to the families of the children to check them with a rape kit they did nothing at all just threw each and every case away like it was nothing. Dude deserves a punishment worth then death at this point for all the pain and suffering he has caused.

      What's worse is this is just in JAILS, not prisons. Jails, for the most part, are were you put people who broke smaller laws, like underage drinking, or public drunkenness, things like that. They're meant for short term (less than a year) incarceration, or as John said, where the accused are held pending a trial, so many of them are NOT hardened criminals who have been going around murdering people, most of them are just idiots who did something stupid, but not monstrous or dehumanizing.

    The real horror of this is that people who were being held on suspicion of a crime were being subject to torture and inhumane treatment. In my life, I have been arrested and held for crimes I didn't commit on two separate occasions. In both cases, despite the crappiness of being in jail, I can say that not being tortured and abused (and possibly murdered by law enforcement officials) was a plus. ANYONE can be falsely accused of a crime and arrested. Yes, even you. And in Arpaio's jurisdiction, that could have meant being maimed and/or possibly dying while awaiting trial. Anyone who doesn't have a problem with this needs to think a little more. People like Joe Arpaio need to be in prison, not in positions in power over others.

      Ok. An interesting fact I suppose. However Stating facts about a person or subject that has no bearing on the topic at hand is considering using it as a defense. Its called trying to divert the subject to justify the actions of the person in the original topic at hand. So you can claim you are just stating the facts. But if you weren't aware of what I had just stated above.
      You now know. Which means any further attempt to talk about something irrelevant to the subject at hand means you are using it for a defense. And using things irrelevant to the debate immediately makes you wrong. Because If you haven't noticed lately. There's a growing trend that anyone who brings up something that another person has done that has no bearing on the debate. Is immediately the loser of the debate.

Criminals have intricate personal lives like the rest of us, and using your political authority to publically shame and humiliate them has the potential to seriously hurt them and drive them even further away from the system. Why would they want to start obeying the law when they've been hurt by those that create and enforce them?? The entire philosophy behind Arpaio is greedy and stupid

I lost all my money while in jail, had to use an overworked appointed attorney, and had to take a "plea bargain" to a fictional "crime" just so I could get moved from jail to prison where I could get at least some minimal medical treatment. I never worked again after prison, became homeless, and nearly died from that as well. (PS: I'm using a pseudonym to protect myself...)

    I'll never forget when, back in high school, one of my friend's dad was deported back to Mexico for absolutely no reason. He was married to a legal citizen and had children born here in the States. All I remember is seeing my friend and his family on Channel 3 news, crying for help in getting him back home. Shortly after that coverage, I could tell that my friend was depressed. He turned to a life of partying, messing around with sedatives to help him cope with the pain. I haven't talked to him since graduation, but the path he was going down was absolutely heart-wrenching. Seeing an A+ student that had everything going for him turn down the road to failure is what a messed up government will do to our children. For that, I flip the bird to Arpaio, and especially Trump for pardoning him due to the fact that he "secures the borders." Yeah, whatever... More like discriminates against the Latinos.
    P.S. - I also went to the Trump rally that was held a few weeks ago here in Phoenix just to hear him speak on the whole Arpaio situation. Nothing but people screaming, "PARDON JOE!" When he laid his smug smile, I knew what was about to unfold. Sad world we live in.

Have you even looked up what he was charged with? Contempt of court. Contempt for a court that was lead by a judge who had plausible bias towards convicting him followed up with a persecution team that was going off false leads and trumped up charges. he was facing felony charges and they couldn't get them to stick, in the end he got landed with a misdemeanor that can be levied against anyone who is receiving a trial by the judges whim. Get out of la-la land and return to the real world please. Fuck off with your "immigrants" shit they were illegal, that makes their presence here a crime. Deal with it.

    • @crystalsoulslayer
      @crystalsoulslayer 6 років тому +60

      The Constitution defines a US citizen as anyone who's born in this country or who's naturalized by the federal government; it doesn't say anything about the nature of that process or who should or should not be allowed to complete it. It does, however, have some very specific things to say about how law enforcement is allowed to carry out its business, which Arpaio flagrantly disregarded.
      The Constitution grants the President the ability to pardon federal offenses unless they're impeachment-related (for obvious reasons), but it also states that the interpretation of law as being constitutional or not is up to the judiciary system. Checks and balances: the legislative branch of government (Congress) writes the laws, the executive (led by the President) enforces those laws, and the judiciary ensures that it's all happening in accordance with the Constitution. Arpaio was convicted by that system of violating the Constitution.
      The executive branch is not supposed to challenge the judiciary's interpretation of constitutionality; it causes an imbalance of power. The executive branch should not have the power to interpret and enforce the law, because they can then justify doing whatever the fuck they want by making their interpretation suit their own purposes.
      Arpaio's actions were blatantly unconstitutional. Trump's decision to pardon him is doubly so. Immigration is not even the real problem with this situation; if you don't love and respect this country's highest laws enough to make them a higher priority than a single political issue, you do not love or respect this country.

    • @Goldfiend

      Benedict Waiharo but to be more specific & on topic its more like get well soon Arizona.. the rest of the country will forever have infinite (& more pressing) problems to deal with. There is no ~America getting well, that's just a fallacy. There is no ~make America great again, that's simply just a farce. So for now, we watch in disbelief as our brilliant & trusty president mr. Trump, apparently deals with this problem the best way his small mind knows how.. blindly stamping his approval in big bold letters "PARDONED" ~in a box that doesn't even really exist, & all in the name of his beloved Sheriff Joe Arpaio... I mean what more logic & reasoning do we need than that right lol? And so in that one swift motion, all of the crimes & atrocities committed by one "Uncle Joe" (as he was famously referred to in Az), are given 2 (small) thumbs up, with a pat on the back & an atta' boy! (p.s. Joe meet me in Marine 1 later for that BJ you promised me, and bring the lube ;) -Donnie)... Meanwhile, bringing this back to my main point, we here in Az are left with a freshly tarnished image thanks to this injustice, almost like an episode of Unsolved Mysteries ~except we've all already saw this episode & know exactly how it ends..so we will never know if the aliens will return that one guy. But basically yeah, get well Az, cuz anybody outside of the state will always see us as the descendants of that piece of shit of a man Arpaio was, & forever will be. Tomorrow is a new day, but also another day for Trump to fuck up. So FML pretty much.

    People serving time do not deserve to die unless given the death penalty. Privileges are revoked, not basic human rights. Feeding people at the mercy of the state rotting food, abusing them physically or sexually, not protecting their basic life, and not allowing them escape from exposure to the elements is inhumane and morally bankrupt. Basically if the Aspca would seize your animal from you for doing it, you for sure shouldnt do it to a human being, regardless of if you think they deserve it.

      i actually think the way the german's have set up their prisons are quite good. human rights are at the top of their version of the constitution which was rewritten after WW2, for you know obvious reasons, so their prisons are designed to help their prisoners retain their dignity, independence and get back on their feet when they get out so they don't keep going back to prison. not an expert in prisons though so don't know if other countries do it better I also don't really know where my country's prison state falls on the list.

      Giving police the power to torture prisoners will certainly raise the negative incentive for crime. That's one of the fundamentals for Police States. Like the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. Of course, when the actions of the police are effectively undocumented crimes, the lowering crime rate can be a bit misleading.
      For instance, the occasions of torture and beatings weren't recorded "assaults". And when those went too far, none of the over 100 deaths caused by old Joe's tactics (many of the victims of which were later proven innocent) are included in crime statistics. They weren't recorded as "murders".
      What am I doing? I'm sure you're just a troll.

      Don't be!
      It wasn't your service to your country that lead to this - and don't be ashamed of your country!
      Instead you should be angry!
      Angry that there is a rise in number of people who hold values that are so much against what the USA is expected to represent - and angry that there is idiots who still refuse to understand how completely bonkers it was to abstain from voting or vote 3rd party back in November 2016

      So what if he's out of office? Trump alone isn't what's wrong with this country. The issues that lead to his election have been around a very long time, and we've all been willfully complacent to them. You think that'll change once he's out? I doubt it very much.

    • @charredtodeath2205
      @charredtodeath2205 6 років тому +4

      purplebela2 I think it was look at Arpaio in a more objective light than making it an episode of full out slander. He picks easy to digest cases and offers the deeper implications of said actions. Whereas going in deeper in one matter might confuse some people who haven't read up, or takes too much time to explain given what limited air time he has. Furthermore, he offers width, which is okay.
      Gist remains: Arpaio is fucking terrible.

      @vixtorocha 6 років тому

      WHY

    • @cormaglavellan5911
      @cormaglavellan5911 5 років тому +6

      @@vixtorocha From what I found in a brief search, the power of the US president to pardon any crime (excluding impeachment) was originally argued for by Alexander Hamilton, and was based on similar power held by the English King. The original idea was to provide the president with a balance of power against the Judiciary, as well as letting the president use the pardon in times of national crisis, such as offering a pardon to rebels to try and limit or defuse a rebellion. The first US president, George Washington, actually used the pardon power as a means of diffusing the Whiskey rebellion in 1791 (a rebellion/protest against taxes), and historically most US presidents have used the pardon power to pardon large groups as opposed to specific individuals, such as President Jimmy Carter granting a blanket pardon to anyone who dodged the draft during the Vietnam war. The use of pardons on specific individuals for political or personal reasons is more of a modern development, most famously used by President Gerald Ford to pardon Richard Nixon who resigned from the presidency as he was facing almost certain impeachment.
