Great to see your first video with the new 52V 20ah battery. Now we'll get to see more extended rides on your Magicycle. Beautiful park! I got anxious watching you on those busy streets but you manuevered very well. Great video as always. My wife is beginning to enjoy your videos too, and stay safe Russ.
Thanks!
Did not remember the 52/20 went 34 miles and potential of more range with less assist. Even on 26x4 knobbies. Very close to KBO smoothies. You can see why this gets confusing on the specs when trying to analyze range of many bikes. Thanks for all of your hard work. 11.5k out..🚲🍦👍
Thanks Russ! Always looking forward to your next video… watching this while I Ride my Rad Rover 6 Plus!
👍
OH MY! I had flashback to playing skyrim in this episode. At 5:00 on left side of video is a guy walking on a roof. My mind saw a Skeleton with a shield coming at me and I immediately check to see where my sword was to defend myself. Then reality hit me as I realize I don't carry a sword and that guy wasn't a skeleton. That was an intense second!
Lol Richard didn’t take you for a skyrim player, that’s cool
Congratulations! My new e-bike has the same thing. With my weight, I can travel about 35 miles--assuming some hills.
Nice!
Russ. You packed the new battery very well on the back rack and it looks good like that, imo. As numerous other viewers stated, you handled the busy streets very well. Nice park; it was maintained nicely. Enjoyed seeing it. Yes, I would like to see your ride home.. Have a good weekend. …Dan
Thanks 👍
Hi Russ. 🤚🏼That was a beautiful park. But like you said, a bit narrow for a bicycle. Glad you had the second battery! I have certainly gotten braver over the year of owning my ebike. I will now ride when there is a bit of traffic. I am not up to your level, but much improved from where I started.🚴🏼♀️
Stay safe on the street!
I just want to give a shout out to Bikeroo for making a saddle comfy enough to allow Russ to ride miles and hours w/o any mention of any saddle soreness or pain. Yet Cloud 9 get most of the publicity. Do you wear padded or bike shorts?
Nope. I usually wear jean shorts. :)
Thank you 4 another nice ride. Good afternoon noon greetings also.
another great video, thanks Russ!
All you need now is to mount the rear battery to the rack using a proper battery base mount to "clean up" the looks of the bike!
Hi Russ. Enjoy your videos. Hopefully soon I can ride my magic cycle when parts come in.
👍
Russ, I have RC airplanes and they use li polimer batteries (not same but similar to li ion). They need to be set at a storage level also for long term.
👍
Traffic in your area seems so light compared to anywhere here in AZ. You are so lucky. Now, we need to get you to make U-turns!
I purposely pick streets that have lighter traffic in general. But of course, some streets have a lot of traffic. I also pick the time of day where most people are already at work by the time I head out on the road.
@@RussIsRight trust me, there’s NO good time or street (at least any that goes through to anywhere) around here. Our density is much higher than the Northwestern Chicago Burbs.
Russ, another great video! Just wanted to let you know I received my Magicycle Cruiser Pro a few days ago and have been out for a couple short rides so far. I’m still waiting for my mirrors so have been sticking to neighborhood streets so far. I was just wondering where do you carry your wallet when riding? I really don’t like it in my back pocket. Also, what kind of bike lock do you use? Just wondering what you would recommend. Thanks.
I keep my wallet in my back pocket. Doesn't seem to get in my way. As for locks, I don't really ever lock up my bike because I never leave it anywhere. The only time I've locked up my bike was when I went to pick up some Chinese food at a carry out restaurant. I was able to see my bike through their glass door though. I have two kinds of locks. I have a big 5' long Kryptonite chain and lock (their most expensive version) and I also have the Abus folding lock (again, their best version that is 110 cm long). Of the two, the chain is way heavier, so I don't often bring it with me. If I do bring something, it's usually the Abus folding lock. It's lighter and easier to deal with. Not sure it is as secure, but again, I would only lock up for places where I only leave my bike for a minute or so and I'm still watching the bike. Here's the Abus I use. This one is sold from the UK. amzn.to/3zI8fJ4. You could also order it from Rad Power Bikes: www.radpowerbikes.com/collections/safety-security/products/abus-bordo-granit-x-plus-6500?variant=32179222642784
Here's a video I did on my locks. ua-cam.com/video/3XIYA6J3JF0/v-deo.html
Thanks for sharing. Cruiser pro also has hydraulic brakes right?
Yes it does.
Russ, thanks for the video. I ordered a backup 20ah battery to extend my range. It showed up yesterday, but I'm concenred that it doesn't have a key slot to remove it. So I'm concerned that when I install it in my bike, I may not be able to remove it. It looks like yours has a key slot, where mine doesn't. I hope I didn't screw up and order one that's not compatible with the 52v cruiser.
The key slot is on the frame of the bike.
@@RussIsRight I’m an idiot. Thanks. 😣
Some of the city names you mentioned sound like Chicago suburbs names? I live in the north west suburbs.
Hi neighbor!

Still debating on getting an e-bike.
Question for you!?
When and if you lose power can you still pedal the bike home and or walk it if necessary?
Yes they are heavy, but will it be able to freewheel while walking pushing.
And would you be able to ride it home over flat terrain….
Thanks
Yes you can. Can I? Not really due to my weaker leg and knee replacement.
Hello Russ, thanks for another great video. Just FYI, I took my first long ride, 31 miles, on my E bike yesterday. It was great! And I only used 1/2 of my battery. I was just wondering though if you have used stem extensions on any of your bikes? I have short arms and I feel I’m a little too forward on the bike and I wish my handlebars were higher. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you. Ride safe.
I have not used stem extensions.
Go to a good bike store and get them to install the extensions. There are so many different types of stems. Let an expert do it.
Hi Russ. When will you do the Highland Woods/Paul Douglas/Crabtree Trail? It's right across the street from Harper. I think you would enjoy that path.
One day perhaps.
OK, your ride tells me my 48V-13Ah-624Wh battery should give me a max of 15-20 miles range the way I ride. Conservatively I should be able to go 10-15 miles more or less on throttle only although I do pedel too. Yesterday I my ride was 13.8 miles and used... (full charge) 53.7v at home put back on charger it read 49.1v. = 4.6v used and 3-4 hours to charge back up to 53.7V.
I do not know how far down it will go and still run, should I assume I still had 3 or 4 volts left?
I have no other way to measure this than to take a voltage reading at full charge and another reading after the ride.
So... your ride was very helpful in many ways. Thank you Russ.
No way to tell how much range you will get compared to mine. We probably weigh different, ride different, terrain is different, PAS levels are likely different since I modify mine in the menu. Also, batteries do not run down to 0 volts. Most likely, your battery will stop running the bike in the mid to lower 40 volt ranges. Bikes need a certain amount of voltage to function and while it does not run, there's still voltage in your battery... just not enough to power up the bike. You can change the readout of your display so that it reads voltage rather than a percentage. You do it in the menu. But you'd better know what the actual cutoff voltage will be otherwise you could run out of battery and not be prepared. For many, leaving it on a percentage reading is easier. For my bike, once it hit 7 percent, the battery does not have enough voltage to run my bike. Do some tests on your own to find out your actual range. Don't estimate it based on my results. Too many variables.
@@RussIsRight My display is the sw900 it has a battery with 5 bars. It does not give percentages as far as I can find, but one can assume that each bar is 20%.
The manual for this display is missing info because I found 4 settings that even the seller did not know about.
If you press the UP arrow and middle at the same time, hold for 3 seconds it gives you 4 more setting.
1st=average speed.
2nd=max speed.
3rd=timer of some kind.
4th=Battery Voltage.
And the TRIP counter resets whenever you turn off the key.
THAT IS MOST ANNOYING and practically useless! I have to note the mileage when I start and finish, or leave the key turned on the whole time.
There is no explanation as to what these other 4 setting are telling me, but I figured out the last one is the battery voltage. I have no idea what the timer does or how to set or change it. It seems to display how long your ride was, but it looks like a clock.
The other two are obvious as they say what they are, average speed and max speed. 4 setting and then it goes back to MPH. I'm sure it does even more but I can't find any other settings no matter how much a play with it. I only tripped over these 4 by trial and error.
Also, the bottom of this display to the right of PAS says WATTS, but mine always reads ZEROES (000) this is also where the error messages are supposed to appear, but no error message ever displayed with my original defective battery.
The manual for this display is sadly inadequate and incomplete of what everything it does or is supposed to do. If anyone has any more info on this display, I'm all ears and eyes.
Planning my vacation at a Gulf coast beach town, looking to see where they have the best bike paths. I will then choose. Does that make me an e bike nut?

Hello Russ! Have a nice riding day
Thanks!
Apologize if you've mentioned this already: your views on flat tire protection... ( I see in your product endorsements, air compressor and slime). If I'm that far away from home with a fat tire bike (which I haven't purchased yet) ... my research shows that the Tannus Armor inserts with the Schwalbe “Fat Frank” tires with kevlar sidewall protection are the way to go.... however, a plug sealer and air pump would be on board as well.
Never considered the Tannus Armour due to the negative reports of it flattening out over time and it shearing off the stems on some inner tubes from shifting. They recommend deflating the tires over time to let the inserts fill out again but that seems like a real hassle to me. Anyway, so far, no flats on the road yet for me.
@@RussIsRight any idea how difficult they are to change? im guessing they have a tube? not tubeless ???
@@dagobaker You still need an inner tube. Installation of the Tannus Armour is not easy from what some have said. I've never installed a set, so I don't know. Maybe someone else can assist in this question.
So are there any good reasons to order the new Magicycle model over a Kepler? I notice the Kepler frame in low step looks almost the same. $300-$400 price difference I think.
I have not tried either, so I can't comment.
@@RussIsRight soon there should be more info on a closer comparison .. They seem to be in the same ballpark. 👍
I got my cruiser pro last week, ordered 7/11 I used RUSS100 for the promo code, not sure if that actually gets you anything 🤔 So far I like the bike, just like everything else, I will be tweaking it to my liking. Brakes have been my only downfall, and I think it's my own fault, they chatter and grind a bit, so I'll be playing with that until I just buy new pads and start over lol. Thanks for all the videos and great input and info! (I'm just up around the pond in GR)
Thanks for the purchase with my code! My brakes chatter too against the rotors. No big deal really. It still stops on a dime if necessary. Not so with mechanical brakes. Have fun with your new pro bike!
thinking about getting the pro version....... how about another update?
@@dagobaker not sure if you meant from me or Russ.....but we haven't ridden as much as we'd have liked to, but probably around 50 miles or so now. I added a Rhinowalk rear bag, C9 seat and Suntour suspension post, rubber ergonomic grips, thumb throttle instead of the half twist, I have but have not installed new ceramic pads yet, as long as I brake gently it's fine. Phone mount, cup/mug holder, handlebar extension with light. Overall I'm happy with the bike, I'm sure it will need tweaks and adjustments as all bikes do. If you're thinking about one, go for it.
Do you have to change your channel name from Russ is Right to Russ is Rich? I understand that there was one winner in the Mega millions Jackpot last night!
Sadly, that wasn’t me.
I live in a small town in Arkansas 7800 people . All the roads jammed packed with everything 7 days a week. Where are all the people in your town and you have all the nice sidewalks and wide roads for people to get out on and enjoy a ride or walk .I don't get it.Half our roads are made out of tar and chip
When you mounted the basket, did you have to reroute some of the cables?
No. It just stays behind the basket.
Hey Russ, Now that you have the extra Magicycle battery, maybe you could take us to Joliet to see where Jake was in jail 🙂
I have been there.
I put 25 miles on my Pro and I’m down to 99% only. But I only ride on PAS1-2.
Weight, PAS level, terrain… it all adds up. I think the 40 mile range is all I will get based on how I ride.
@@RussIsRight totally! I have PAS 1-9 where each level adds 10% power straying with PaS 1 at 10% thru Pas 9 at 95%. I think with my settings I can do 100 miles on a charge 😂
I look forward to trying the battery upgrade. I generally ride PAS 3, but I find a lot of my riding where I downshift to 6th and 5th gear, I am using 0 watts. I average 35-40 miles with my original Magicycle battery. I am guessing that I can get 50-60 miles out of the upgraded battery.
@@jamesnewsom5899 0 Watts means you aren't using battery power.
E bike escape is having an unboxing live today on his YT channel of the new Magicycle touring plus
He is unboxing the Cruiser Pro. Basically, it's the bike I've been riding since I now have the new battery, hydraulic brakes and soon the hydraulic forks. I call mine, the Semi-Pro. Hahahaha!
@@RussIsRight Do you suppose other Magicycle owners will go the same route as you?
What do you mean? Consumers or UA-camrs?
@@RussIsRight Consumers. Inspired by what you are doing.
Absolutely. If they already have a Cruiser, upgrading the brakes and adding a second (more powerful) battery gives them added range to go farther (if they want to do that). If they do anything, I'd say doing the brakes is the biggest change to the bike.
I always believed that 48 or even 52 volts were better for e bikes, but I see expensive brands in Europe with 36 volt mid drive systems. But they are all class 2 which only allows 20 mph and no throttle. Kind of confused now.
Some bikes use smaller motors. The new Magicycle Commuter bike will have a 350 watt motor and a 52 volt, 7 ah battery. A bit weird, but I am anxious to see what it can do.
@@RussIsRight Are the amount of watts related to the amount of torque, you get. For taking off fast and going up hills? In your case you need neither. Being able to keep a higher speed is more to your liking.
@@pedrofernandez8729 They are kind of related. A low torque motor for instance might need more power to get over a hill. A higher torque motor climbs easier so it would require less power to get over the top.
To give some perspective, lectric has their XP 2.0, and their newer XPremium. Both have similar wattage rating on the motors, but the mid-drive XPremium outputs 140 Nm of torque vs 80 Nm on the hub drive XP 2.0. Since Europe has stricter laws about top speeds, there seem to be more mid-drives there, as it allows them to have a bike that meets their rules, but is superior at hill climbing under 20 mph, since they can’t go faster than that anyway, and it does seem to be enforced more there than here.
How long did shipping take or for the bike to get to you?
About a week.
Recd a post today of a notice that West Virginia state law provides that only class 1 ebikes are allowed in their parks and trails. A sign of things to come,I fear!
Sad. 🙁
Sceond :), hello Russ
Second*
Aren't you supposed to Stop for the stop signs?
Yup.
nothing worse than being forced to stop...... killing my momentum
Wait a minute? Am I supposed to charge my batteries after the light turns green? Is that what you mean by a deep charge, leave it on charge even after the light turns green for some 12 hours the first 2 oe 3 times? No one ever mentioned that to me until you just said that. And YES, my first battery did exactly that it just quit for no apparent reason after 3 or 4 rides and about the same charging but I never left it on charge after the light went green. Waiting to hear from you so I know if I should let it charge over night on this relitivly new battery?
\
So far I only have 120 miles and the second battery seems to work fine but as I said I have NOT left it on the charger after the light turns green. Please advise on this a soon as you can. I did not use the bike over the winter but I did once a month charge it to green light. I remember hearing that somewhere if not using it to charge it once a month but no one ever mentioned a deep charge for 12 hours.
Sheesh! No wonder my first BRAND NEW battery that came with the bike quit after 55 miles and the people I bought it from SOHOO don't speak ENGLISH so I got no where with them.
Had to buy a new battery at my expense over $600 CDN. Now I need to know how to keep that from happening again. Does DEEP CHARGE mean leave it on charge aprox 12 hours at least 3 times after the green light turns on and say every 3 or 4 months as well? Why don't they tell us these things when the sell the bike? Thx
PS... Also, how do I correct squeaking brakes?
I know, I know, we DO NOT oil them! (grins) I couldn't resist clarifying that.
They are mechanical disk brakes, I did an adjustment, and now they squeak. Thx.
Let me say this first... Magicycle has not told anyone to charge past the "green" on the charger. However, I have heard this "deep charging" or "Balancing The Battery" from many sources including Rad Power Bikes. When I bought my Rad Rover 5, I followed the rule and I continue to do it for the other batteries that I have. Still, I won't take any responsibility if you do this and it damages your Magicycle battery. But for me, I do it. I also do a balancing of the battery every now and then. Some people do it monthly, but I think that is too much. I sometimes do it every 3 or 4 months. Read about it on the Rad's instruction manual for the Rad Rover 5 here and go to page 23. Also, do not charge beyond 12 hours ever! cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0799/9645/files/om_rov20h5s1_usa_en_cb_v5-003_up0.pdf?v=1615419747
Remember that charging Lithium Ion batteries can be dangerous. Be sure you do it where you can keep an eye on the charge. I never charge overnight! Too risky. I also make sure other things are not around when I charge... in case the battery catches fire. I have heard that having a bucket of sand may be the best thing to put out a lithium ion battery fire as they tend to keep going even with a fire extinguisher. To date, I still have yet to get some sand...
Lastly, I follow this sequence for charging batteries... BOOB.... Battery, Outlet.... Outlet, Battery. Plug in the cord to the battery first and then plug into the wall outlet to charge. To unplug, remove the plug from the Outlet first and then remove it from the battery. This is the safest way to plug and plug batteries being charged.
@@RussIsRight Thx Russ Yes I did know that and I do that. I too do NOT trust these batteries this is why I stop charging after the light turns green and I never charge them when I am not right there to keep an eye on it. I didn't know about the sand bucket, seems like a good idea. I also know to NEVER put water on a burning Lith-ion battery! Sheesh! BOOM. Anything on the squeaky brakes? (grins) And what exactly does DEEP CHARGE mean? Thx.
It is really a balancing of the cells, not a deep charge. It gets some charge to the batteries at the tail end of the series connection.
What if you put an alternator on the front wheel and charge battery A and then as you ride with battery B and then when battery B is off you swap with battery A then battery B gets charged and you do that after every 10 to 20 km.
Is it possible? Open discussion.
Not sure you can generate enough voltage with a device like this to charge a 52 volt battery.
How many batteries can one survive in 6h.
What if the battery is in 12v system can it at least charge 1 at a time may be you carry like 4 batteries 12v each? And swap as you go.
Sorry but it doesn’t work that way. There is a minimum voltage required to push that current to the motor. Once below a certain voltage (let’s just say around 42 volts… 8 am not sure what the actual voltage is but it could be around 42 volts) there isn’t enough to drive the motor. The bike would simply stop working.
How many minutes does it take to travel 15 miles?
Depends on how fast you are riding.
I think your fat tire bike can easily handle hard packed gravel.
I am sure it will. I just don’t like the feel of it. 😊
A new topic. I have only one small section (3 short city blocks) of road where I have no choice but to use the car lanes and yesterday 'FRIDAY rush hour' I chose to go out and go that way.
Within just 2 of those 3 blocks I had 6 cars pass me and I was full throttle at 25 MPH. Scared me into a Bantha diaper rash.
I will find another way around that HAZARD! (grins)
But what else I find ANNOYING and HAZZARDESS is I'm crossing the burrard bridge in that really good, relatively new bike lane, I'm full throttle up that hill at 25mph and someone else on an e-bike just has to PASS me with just mm to spare and not even a bell, beep, horn or... ON YOUR LEFT!
Was I not going fast enought for him? Sheesh!
And what jet engine does he have in that bike, because mine will do 28mph but ofcourse that's not legal so I didn't just write that here.
Assume that was edited OUT! (Grins)
Some people just have to take chances and get too close. Not safe riding.
People love to pass bikes, and I think some of it is malicious, some of it is their experience with regular bikers. I was riding an hour or so ago, I was going down hill, was going 32 or so in a 25, had a guy fly by me pretty close. People see bike, and think “I’m not getting stuck behind this guy, let’s go!” FWIW, the uphill section had a bike lane, but maybe he didn’t know that. Or maybe he wanted to make a point, or just didn’t care. Who knows?
Anyone here has a cyclist bucket list of places you'd like to ride your bike there?
