  • Earlier, Lea (Paige Spara) told Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) that she deleted some patient reviews to inflate Shaun's satisfaction scores. Then, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff) tells Shaun he's moving to Montana. When Shaun loses a patient -- a baby -- because the required medication was expired, all the change he's been navigating over the past few months catches up to him. From 'The Good Doctor' season 5, episode 7, 'Expired.' Watch 'The Good Doctor' MONDAYS 10/9c on ABC. Stream on Hulu.

    Shaun has unresolved trauma. Glassman leaving triggered his abandonment issues and was not too different from when Lea left him. Lea lying about the scores triggered his unresolved hurt from when Lea turned him down in S3. He felt like she didn't respect him then or now. Losing the baby triggered his unprocessed grief over his and Lea's loss. The people that he trusts most have left him, lied to him and did things that showed a lack of respect for him & displayed they felt he was incapable of handling his own issues.
    Once Shaun acknowledges his underlying issues and understand why others behaved how they did things will be ok. Lea deleted reviews because she loves him and Salens system is flawed. Glassman left because he felt that he was no longer useful to Shaun and was grieving the loss of his marriage. Also Glassman has to realize that he is Shauns surrogate father. No matter how old or independent your kids are you don't stop being their parent. Lea has to realize that Shaun is not a child who needs to be managed or constantly protected.

    • @TTPotterUltraPower
      @TTPotterUltraPower 2 роки тому +52

      Agree with you on everything but I think Glassman does know he is Shaun’s father ever since his brother died. Lea also tells him that in S4 and asks for his approval of their relationship because just like she wanted her own parents to accept Shaun, she wanted Shaun’s only parent to accept her.

I know he flies under the radar not being on social media and not being in the public eye too much (respectably and understandably), but being in big hits like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Bates Motel, and now the Good Doctor, he doesn't get the attention he deserves. I actually have to explain to people who he is if I mention him and that's sad. I loved the part where Shaun ripples the invitation then just looks at it all shocked, like "did I just do that?" And being confused for a second there like he forgot where he was for a second. Really showed how he was overwhelmed with emotion; grief, anger, you name it. Superb acting on Freddy's part 👌🏻

    Doing the wrong thing for the right reasons is still the wrong thing. I understand fans love Lea and love her relationship with Shaun and that’s pushing them to want this resolved quickly, but the fact of the matter is Lea broke Shaun’s trust. Why she did it doesn’t matter. Damage doesn’t care about intentions. Do I believe they can bounce back from this? More than likely. But it’s going to take time. And it should.
    Seeing Shaun break down and have everything crash on top of him all at once was so painful to watch. Freddie was amazing here.

      I don't like Lea. I don't like the relationship. I never had. If my autistic ran away from his job without permission to crash a car and drink until he puked I would have made sure that relationship ship ended right there. Lea does not understand autism! These meltdowns are real and they do not go away. And yes, lying triggers them.

      Thank you for putting it in a reasonable way without just bashing Lea. Shaun has every right to be upset with Lea. He explicitly told her not to do that. I do think they'll be OK. The writers spent four seasons building up their relationships. I do think Shaun does need to realize that his ASD does limit him and those score reflect that (but it's not an accuracy reflection on him as a doctor) and trying to act neurotypical isn't the answer.

    • @Book_Dragon2562
      @Book_Dragon2562 2 роки тому +4

      @@ChristineTheHippie I believe Shaun was well within his rights to say if the data can’t be corrected, then Salen has to be made aware of the incorrect information. And if she were to lose her job, that would be a direct result of her own decision, and not Shaun’s fault or him punishing her.
      Every comment I’ve seen so far is Shaun needs to apologize, or Shaun needs to appreciate that she did this out of love for him. They just want things to get back on track and they don’t seem to care that Lea’s actions *merit* consequences, no matter what her intentions were. This ship only works as long as both people are being loved, respected, and valued, and right now, there is no good reason for these two be be getting married because that standard is not being met.

    I'll be honest, I'm not sure what to think. The cost cutting measures Salen put in were going to come back and be devastating but I didn't see it being this devastating. I can see some of the staff rallying behind Shaun, Glassman and Dr. Lim to push Salen out of power but it also questions where Morgan and Dr. Andrews' alliances lie as well as Dr. Park. As far as the wedding, I personally think it'll still be on but Shaun needs time as getting over something this devastating as well as her lying and altering Shaun's reviews just doesn't clear up immediately. For me, this has been one of the best midseason finales this show put on...even more than season 2. From episode 1, I always had that sneaking suspicion about Salen and what her true motives were and I think here it shows.
