  • What if you can get rid of your walker or your cane quicker after you had a hip replacement from the front approach? You need to get strong and get back to your feet again and in this video I will show you those exercises to get you stronger and recover faster.
After you had your hip replacement which is coming from the front, your doctor will tell you about the hip precautions that is specific for the anterior approach hip replacement.
Role of the occupational therapist is to remind you and review those precautions and facilitate the exercises that will get to you back on your feet again. It is standard practice that you are going to be prescribed with a walker. That is because the muscles surrounding that area where you had that hip replacement surgery will be a little bit weaker. And you will be experiencing pain. So try to do this exercises as much as you can tolerate and just remember that the rest breaks or the recovery. It’s also as important as the strengthening phase.
First exercise is knee up or hip flexion’s. Do this 10 times. If you can do this standing up, do this on both legs. This will promote weight-bearing on the leg and you had a hip replacement.
Second exercise is high squats. Hold onto your walker if you have one or use a chair or by the sink. Make sure that your toes are pointing Straight. Do this 10 times.
Third exercise is kicking to the side. Do this 10 times but make sure that your toes are not pointing outwards. Do this on both sides as well.
Fourth exercise is tiptoes. Do this 10 times.
Since exercise is those up. Do this standing up or sitting down.
Fifth exercise is chair push-ups. What’s up from your chair like you’re about to stand up lead forward a little bit and Pick up your buttocks. If you can tolerate to stand All the way up then do that. Do this 10 times.
And then lastly you need to practice walking. Use your walker if you need to or a cane if you have lesser pain.
