Hi Jenny, Mr M was the hero and ever so patient! I find caterpillars so beautiful and how they link themselves to certain plants or trees; then the metamorphism into gorgeous butterflies and moths and at the moment that’s all going on up on my roof!😍 Have a superdooper day!🦋🌻

I am sorry I have not commented for a while been going through a bit of a rough patch but I have enjoyed you last two vlogs Greatly. They still take my mind away from all the problems in this world. You are greatly admired by me the way you handle problems. You stay positive it seems no mater what goes wrong. My wife came down with covid the other day and I am afraid that I might get it soon. The letters you put on the daisy were great! I very much enjoyed the last video with the jets taking off from the RAF base. You look at life not matter how tiny and always seem to manage to see the beauty in nature like the butterfly nesting on your boat or the fantastic sun sets you mange to photograph . So I so look forward to Friday when I know I will have another trip on the Alice Grace. Steve

Tessa, those bees were absolutely stunning and so, so gentle!🐝 At first, I thought that they were ivy mining bees, but as these were so near to the coast and behaving like Sea Aster Bees, I really think it might be them? I am still waiting for a bee expert to get back to me. 🤞 It is spectacular approaching St Botolph's Church isn't it and what great mooring spots are there too! Thank you for your lovely comment. Vanessa, I have to say, that as an 8 year liveaboard CCer, at the moment staying on the Stort to look after my old mum. Your vlog is the only one that lifts my heart. You have such a beautiful way of showing what most would miss. Your attention to detail of the natural world around us lifts me and reminds me of how much I long to get back out on the CCing scene. I've covered better than 50% of the system over those years, but have not done the East yet. But your vlog has convinced me that I will be doing the Middle levels, the Nene and Boston next. Hopefully I can manage to do the Wash too. Are you planning that, I'd love to see how you get on. Thank you Vanessa, keep up the brilliant work, I adore your poems and art work too. Terry, your mum is very lucky to have you and caring for her is such a beautiful thing that you are doing. It is lovely to know that you are enjoying the vlogs. I really like the Stort and Lee and travelled along them before I started vlogging so I will go back one day and film that area. I will do the Wash one day too, all being well, but not yet as it will take me over to the Ouse and Middle Levels which I have only recently cruised, although I will say it is absolutely stunning so when you CC again, I totally recommend going. My camera is a Panasonic LUMIX 2000 and I am not sure what the lens strength is but it is built into the camera and not a separate attachment. I am teaching myself how to use it at the moment so I am not great with technical questions about it. CRT have a few rules depending on what licence you have bought but the rules on the water are a lot less formal than the rules on land. I predict our licences will increase though and I’m sure more rules will come, but for now it works well for us. Have a fantastic Friday, take care 🦋🌻
It was fun to see the stump from the canal point of view. I was just in Boston traveling from California. My great X 5 grandparents were married in Saint Botolph’s Church and my great x 4 grandmother and her siblings were baptized there. I wondered about the low tides.

Hi, I really enjoyed this vlog. However, I believe it was a tactical error for KING DAVID to NOT be invited to fix your pipes with two hammers. Just think of the great lasting video comedic possibilities of that event. The resulting collateral damage would be just a minor setback. That bit made me laugh out loud. Very Good. "...and there's nothing quite getting all of your ducks in a row, is there" was a priceless moment. Have a great week!
Hi John, I would have loved to have King David visit ( would need to buy red carpet first though) but the plumber was right where we were and with the available part and the water was really dripping fast. Good evening Vanessa I'm feeling much better this week medication seems to be working (Horay). What a eventful week u have had in this weeks vlog water leaks are the worst, at least u found them quick and fixed them fingers crossed there still going strong. What a wonderful selection of insects this week u managed to capture on film, l was thinking the other day while sitting in my garden that l hadn't seen many butterflies on my buddleia bush this year and neither any caterpillars what is happening? Each week l admire ur journal as u flick through the pages how fast the weeks go by, volume 2 must be near. Your camera work and commentary this week were wonderful. The information about the Marsh Harriers and Grebes, incredible. I've never heard of a Sea Aster Bee. Did you get confirmation? The line of ducks was fantastic as was Boston Stump. The information about the floods was fascinating.

Dare I say this. Narrowboats are a very narrow (haha) niche. Your narrative, style, and dedicated interest about wildlife with the engaging information, together with your drawings/poems will absolutely appeal to a much wider audience. The boat could be used more as a means of transport in your vlogs.

If you would allow me a moment of privilege, I would like to lead all your loyal subscribers in a collective groan of regret at the 9:00 mark... and since we're going there, how about "swan-goozlers" at 7:33😆. On a (slightly) more serious note, I'm just fascinated at the floating green stuff. Is it algae? Weeds? It doesn't seem to really bother the birds and other animal life, although I really wanted to wipe that poor seal's nose for it at 14:10 ! Thanks and have a wonderful week!
Hi Brewster, now I am very cross with myself for missing yet another opportunity to gongoozlify an animal! I think that I was too busy congratulating myself for the 'ducks all in a row' comment, that I missed that one; oh that will teach me! 🦆🦆🦆 The green stuff is duckweed and azolla which grows as a result of farmers' fertiliser being washed into the river, I think? At least lots of local have told me it's the fertiliser which causes it. The water birds eat it and I believe that it is quite nutritious for them but the fish need clear water and I am sure that it is causing problems for them? I recall having a leak with a similar red pressure cylinder many years ago. I was told that the red ones are for heating systems in which the water has an anti-corrosion chemical and also the water does not change. I replaced it with a similar sized white cylinder which was either stainless steel inside or had a lining to keep the water away from the metal. This was all before I got my narrowboat. On the narrowboat there was (is) a much smaller pressure cylinder (about the size of a 2 litre cola bottle) and I found it quite large enough. And it has not leaked since I bought the boat in 2008.
Your filming is of a very high quality - what camera(s?) do you use?
Thank you so much for this information. I will look into what you are saying about this smaller, colour bottle size container? It seems to be doing the job if it hasn't leaked since 2008! Thank you for your kind words about the film quality. I use 3 different cameras: my phone ( for talking to the camera and when it rains) an old GoPro which is the size of a postage stamp and I put that on the bow and then I get other angle shots and nature shots using my Panasonic Lumix 2000. The green scum on the water surface; is that the algae which removes oxygen from the water, thereby killing fish?
The green scum was duckweed and azolla which I don't think are algae, but if they cover the water's surface completely then, it is like you say, the oxygen will be starved. The CRT have introduced a weevil which eats the weeds and so hopefully, that will start to work? Thank you for watching, take care🦋🌻
sadly gamekeepers on sporting estates still shoot...trap and poison any raptor they see on their estate despite it being illegal and they can face hefty fines...but the land owners protect them because shooting grouse etc is more important....
