- Hurricane Milton has made landfall in the US state of Florida.
More than two million homes and businesses are without power, and there have been "a number of deaths" reported on the Atlantic coast.
Milton was downgraded from a category five hurricane to category one, but is still wreaking havoc.
It comes two weeks after Hurricane Helene killed at least 225 people in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina.

Tampa Bay here. We came through undamaged, but still have no power. Haven't slept, but too dangerous to go out yet. Lots of tornadoes landing everywhere. RIP to those who didn't make it. 😢
Glad you're ok , from the UK
Just out of curiosity, why did you decide not to evacuate and ride it out instead?

I swear this has had more media coverage than the last 30 hurricanes combined.
Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's weird. Usually the one thing we see about these in the UK is a short report and a flyover of damage after it has happened. It's kind of surreal that this one has essentially been livestreamed.
Probably because it was forecast to be a potential Category 5 hurricane hitting a massively populated area that isn't really built to withstand hurricanes
@@sideshowbloband bc area was just hit by Helene. It did look massive on radar though. Climate change is a major topic in every country so there’s that. Wishing all a safe happy day, your alive !
I read this while driving and had an accident
@Jeffreymart
Difference between high tide and low tide is 3” not 4’3”…………. 🤨
And storm surge is exactly that a surge……. And doesn’t mean X amount of feet of water……… the amount of water anywhere on land anywhere in the world is based on elevation and this thing called gravity (Newton did this thing about it) you should look it up sometime………… 🤣

Fuck all that . Call the waffle house and tell em to open up 💯💯💯
From Vietnam , I hope everyone is safe 🙏🙏🙏
To everyone saying it's n9t as dangerous because it downgraded before making landfall, it's not the winds that area the problem, it's the storm surge. The category 5 stage would have pushed a lot of water ahead of it and even if the storm downgraded, that water is still being pushed ahead of the storm. It's the storm surge that takes the most lives in hurricanes. There will still be an enormous surge even if it's only category 3 or 4 and not 4. Stay safe guys :)

200 kilometres per hour? Don't we normally use miles per hour? Is this the same dubious switch that we make with temperatures, where we normally use Celsius until it gets really hot and we can excitedly say it's in the 80s or 90s?

It's still caused a lot of damage, but this hurricane was being touted as a category 5 when it hit land, would cause storm surges of over 4 metres in height, would be the storm of the century and community changing. After decades of hurricanes it's always been the case that their strength reduces.
Fact is that they occur much more often now. Who wants to live there in the future? Millions of damage, people die…this can’t be a situation you want for yourself if you live there in the future.

He came in all bloody and the girls here, started crying. That was just after the garage collapsed! That scared us all! The wind was roaring!!! When the garage fell down, we thought the house would go next! It was really loud. It's a good thing we were drunk. The stress would have been bad, but being drunk, we laughed most of the night, until the garage fell in. The cat upset us too. The poor thing floated by on a piece of wood. It was in the garage. A neighbor had left it with us when they evacuated. I don't know where it is now. I'm glad it got out before the roof came down all the way. You should have seen that poor thing, all wet and scared. Junk was flying all around outside! The cat went by on that board so quickly, my girlfriend didn't have time to get it. She tried though. The power is out, what a bummer. Now, the music has stopped. I guess, that ends our party. Now, we'll just sit around, coming up with jokes to cheer us up. The sun's about to come up and everything is going to look terrible, I know. There's even water running down the walls under some windows. The whole place is such a mess!
