at 12:21 if you subtract the 'b' wouldn't you get 2b not 4b? sorry not trying to be picky just have this as an assignment question and I can't get it right?
Kaiya MacLeod It would end up leaving you with a -4b. The reason for this is that we had a -3b on the left side of the equation, then we subtract another b from that. -3b-b=-4b. I hope that helps!
It really depends on the piecewise function. If your piecewise function is different, then your a and b could be completely different. If you follow the same process though you should get the right values.
by any chance do you know what would a and b be if i switched out the last function to 4x-a+b instead of 2x-a+bbut keep everything else the same? I tried solving but I keep getting the incorrect answer.
No they don’t have to be equal. It’s more about finding the a and b that make the output of both parts of the piecewise function equal each other at the specific x value where you switch between them.
If you go over to jakesmathlessons.com/limits/solution-find-the-values-of-a-and-b-that-make-f-continuous-everywhere/ you can see it done is another similar program online.
📖Matthew 11:25-26 NLT📖 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way! 📖Matthew 11:27 NLT📖 “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” 📖Matthew 11:28-30 NLT📖 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

@@JakesMathLessons ohhh ok, thank you so much!!
does the a and b value have to be similar or can they be different i got different numbers for my piecewise function Could you please respond Thansks
It really depends on the piecewise function. If your piecewise function is different, then your a and b could be completely different. If you follow the same process though you should get the right values.
Thank you for clarifying the problem ❤🔥❤🔥

nice try lol
def too late but a = 7/2 and b = 13/2
Do a and b have to equal to the same value for the function to be continuous?
No they don’t have to be equal. It’s more about finding the a and b that make the output of both parts of the piecewise function equal each other at the specific x value where you switch between them.
Thank you sr,from India...tamil
Of course, happy to help!
Thank you, and screw substitution. I never think of doing it, and it's unreasonably tedious.
Thanks, stay tuned
