  • If you've been watching our videos with Tech Consultant Zach Peterson about transmission lines, impedance, and differential pairs, you've already come across the Propagation Constant. Today, Zach explores what is the Propagation Constant, the Skin Effect, copper roughness, and more.
    * Note: During a segment of this video, I mention "6 ns/meter." The correct figure is 5.7 ns/meter or equivalent to about 6.8 inch/ns. Sorry about that!

This is great. Always wanted to know the details of these things. The math and stuff. It’s important to know these before getting into PCB design. Altium should make a complete math series in this for people who are serious to get into the PCB electronics designing and fabrication. I never like clicking the “automatic buttons” to do these things without know why and how the magic works.

How about I put together a playlist specifically on these topics? I agree that knowing the math behind all this is very important, at least for having a link between the basic concepts in electromagnetics, even if you don't know how to crank out every single problem.

What is the physical implication of j0.129 radians per 1000 m in propagation constant? Why do we need to know the complex plane angle?
