Hey guys, I think this is my first post to you. I to was diagnosed with anxiety during the late 80's. I'm 57 years old and when I was young nobody knew what anxiety was not until I was around 19.I found a dr that knew exactly what I had. Of all the years I had to go through it I still suffer from it but I make the most of what I got through gardening, raising chickens, and doing what I love. You guys have come a long way after watching you for so long .. You have a nice barn and I think you have a awesome green house. I live in VA. and we have a long growing season. I was a carpenter for many years, then I got my contractor license. My crew and I built many houses over the years and I had to retire because of injuries. I won't go through all that. But you guys have come a long ways and your doing awesome job on your farm. I wish you all the best in your hard work and Olvia reminds me of my daughter whose 25 in July. They grow up quickly. I raised my daughter by myself since she was 2 years old. But anyway I think the world of you all and what a great greenhouse and everything you have accomplished since I've been watching you! Keep up all the great videos and God will supply you all the food you will have for many years to come!

I have found that being out in nature, and having enough physical activity have helped me quite a bit with my anxiety.
As a kid I used to think that everyone lived with this.. luckly.. coping skills, medication AND meditation have brought me a long ways. Never give up... there is help.

I'm so old, that emotional issues were never thought of making physical issues. I remember that I was always nauseated during the school year, but was never sick to my stomach during the summertime when school was out- Only when I got old did I learn about the cause, thanks to the internet, and people like you conveying their life stories and solutions.
I'm living in the country also.

I learned to plant my carrots from a farmer in New Hampshire who was born in 1896.
He showed me how small the seeds were.
He would take a clean sheet of white paper and fold it corner to corner.
He put the tiny carrot seeds in the center of the folded page. He would then open up the fold some and with a shaking action he could lay just one seed at a time. And place them accurately where he wanted them. He told me to leave the space of my thumb between seeds. We grew a great crop of both orange and red carrots.

Good morning Lumnahs... New Yolk City on lockdown? Them rogue chickens did it to themselves 🤣 Gina worked so hard to beautify the place and I’m loving how the woman’s touch just adds a certain panache. Morning all. Thanks for the great content. When planting very fine seeds. Take a mason jar, put some sand in it. Add your seeds and shake. As you sprinkle the sand in your rows the seeds will be distributed at a much more even rate. The more sand, the more sparse your planting rows. Reshake from time to time to keep seed distribution even.

Gina & Al, you're so Blessed to be able to have the greenhouse & garden's you & Al have created.
My dream garden would have every kind of Berries there are out there, especially Gooseberries & Dark Berries.
I would also have fruit tree's of the fruits I love & the veggies I love, which is just about all of them lol.
    That reminds me.
Save some space in your greenhouse for big clay pots to grow Dwarf Citrus Fruit Tree's & other's that your climate won't allow you to grow outside.
My favorites are Mandarin Oranges, Tangerines, Limes, Myer Lemons, Cherries & a few others.
They also have tree's that grow different types of fruit of the same species on just one tree. I'd love to experiment with that.
That would be another great project for Olivia. The Dwarf Fruit Tree's could be part of her garden.
Now that you have the greenhouse, you can basically grow almost anything you want to grow. So start thinking outside the box about what you want to grow. Things you've wanted to grow but couldn't because of your climate.
Now the sky is your only limit lol.
I can't wait to see what all of you end up creating in your garden's & greenhouse.

You just described what _I_ have been planting the past 2 years! First I put in cider and apple trees 4 years ago, followed by other fruit trees (pear, peach, quince - still want plums), berry bushes (Cornus mas, currants, gooseberries, raspberries - native trailing blackberries everywhere), and strawberries as groundcover. I also planted chestnuts and a copper beech this spring. I've been panting perennials first - then I'll think about the annuals.
I'm in the PNW - I can see Victoria, BC from the road.
P.S. There are _so many_ strawberries that the few that get trampled (though I haven't trampled _any_ in the past 2 years even under fruit trees and berry bushes) are not that big a deal.

I put my carrot seeds on wet paper towels, then fold and place in baggie overnight. I then make a non-gmo corn starch slurry (let cool) gently add in the soaked seeds. The slurry suspends the soaked seeds. I place in a baggie with a small cut off the corner and 'pipe' into my rows. I have a much better germination rate. I also have to grow mine in the fall as they do better in Texas.

I planted blueberries 6 yrs ago with landscape fabric. I took a 5 ft width x 70 ft, pegged it down with 6D landscape spikes that had fender washers on them. I took a straight piece of scrap wood, put it down the center of the fabric and ran a torch down the side to cut and seal the edges. I put the plants in the center, spaced 36" apart and topped it with composted saw dust and wood chips. The slit in the fabric makes it easy to mulch, pull an occasional weed etc. We have drip tape running down the center as well, under the mulch. They are huge now, tons of fruit. The landscape fabric helps to blunt the weed pressure, retain moisture and allow the addition of mulch on a regular basis. Weed pressure really stunts blueberries. Good luck with your berries

Blue berry growers near me (in NSW Australia) often plant two plants per hole to ensure good fertilisation of flowers. You waste a lot of space planting carrots in rows. I mix radish, beetroot and carrot seeds and spread over 1 sq meter(or more ,depending on the amount of seed you sow) . No thinning -radishes come and go quickly, leaving spacing ,carrots and beetroot crop at different rates but if they are too close pull immature and use in salads.Once beets and carrots are of usable size pull (carefully)and the small ones left will grow to full size . Harvest and repeat.

Hi Luminah's , from Newcastle in England. I am enjoying your long journey in creating your own homestead. Suggestions for planting would be leeks (Musselborough), white cauliflowers(snowball) Kohl Rabi- Sprouts you can eat the tender tops of these as greens, and (Durham Early) Cabbage which the bottom leaves can be eaten like spring cabbage and then the hearts left to form pointed heads. Early sowings of radish will keep you well supplied throughout summer and are a good catch cropper for salads- (Little gem) lettuce is nice in sandwiches and salads. (Purple Milan) Turnips, Parsnips, Dwarf French Beans, Boleti beans (nice in soups and casseroles) (Cavell Nero) Kale. Potatoes. Swiss Chard. And (Boltardy) Beetroot- Onions- we use these everyday Ailsa Craig- Sturon (sets) Japanese onion (sets) spring onions(White Lisbon) sown every couple of weeks plant out in bunches of 4-5 6 inches apart . Elephant Garlic. (heavy cropper) Shallots planted out in bunches of 4-5 and 6 inches apart.

I 'hope' you're taking the opportunity with your younger does and especially your new doelings to get them happy with having their udders touched! Feed them treats and touch them all over, also getting them on the milking stand from time to time (not only for unpleasant things...!). If they move, the treats stop, slowly each day spending more time on stomach/udder etc. By the time it's milking time they should be used to the stool and an association of touch = nice things happen = be still (no kicking!) = easy milking!

I do love blueberries. We have an organic blueberry orchard not far from here tho I would like to grow my own. We do have a literal TON of wild raspberries, black raspberries & wineberries all over our mountain and they make the most amazing cobblers! That lasagna looked amazing! Looking forward to Buttercup's milking video on Monday! Blessings to all.

Everything is going to be well worth it, when harvesting time comes. I bet they are going to be delicious. I have spinach, kale, green onions, Vidalia, beefsteak tomatoes and carrots coming up in my containers.

I did some baby carrots in my wiskey barrel. Only place I can plant where I live. They are coming up nicely. Way better than last year. Excited to have fresh carrots with dinner!

When I plant my carrots are use an old bulk spice container. The type that we get at Sam’s club here in New York. I put sand in it and then mix the tiny seeds and with the sand and sprinkle it on the ground. That way you can see where you seeded because the sand is lighter color you can see where you planted and then there’s less thinning of the plants later. I plant them in blocks instead of rows. I use it for my kale and lettuce. Just a little FYI it works with any tiny seed.

I so love seeing all things come together on the homestead so nicely. Glad you got the chickens on lock down, they did it to themselves. lol i know they just want fresh grass, but still. The vegies in the greenhouse are looking amazing. I love that Olivia wanted her own little bed, she is going to be so prepared when it is time to leave the nest, which will come all to quickly-or maybe she will want to live on the homestead in another house with her husband. That would be awesome. Anyway, everything is looking great, love seeing how much changes from year to year. Hope your blueberries do great Gina, I know you will add more plants too. They are going to look beautiful!

I remember when I was a little girl There Were Ten of us kids and we all had our own row in the garden to plant whatever we wanted that is one of my most Fondest Memories of my childhood. Your blueberry Orchard is looking beautiful, I had one blueberry bush that was my sons when they moved they gave me one of their blueberry bushes to take to my apartment and I wish I would have known more then how to take care of it because it ended up dying and I was so sad because that was one of the things left from their garden and it was just sentimental to meet cuz my son worked so hard on that Garden, but there's always more blueberry bushes to plant and remember my Sons Garden 💗😊💗

I know you have invested a lot in Tractor Supply buckets but I watch you go back and forth for things while planting and my only thought is Invest in a quality wheelbarrow. It will save walking back and forth and your back. Enjoy your channel all the time. Keep it up.

a good way to keep your soil acidic is to add coffee grounds. If I remember you get lots of coffee grounds from a local coffee shop...this is a good place to use them! I take my fresh blueberries, and freeze them on cookie sheets and then store them in bags for use in the winter...blueberry syrup on pancakes....oh my!!

    • @jill.arbogast6538
      @jill.arbogast6538 4 роки тому

Wow that’s good to know. Do you put anything else on them besides the coffee grounds and H2O. ??

    • @donaldmiller8629

      @ Hap Newsom ,
Coffee grounds are also a source of a small amount of nitrogen. Another thing is that earthworms love coffee grounds. So the coffee grounds attract earthworms which add oxygen to the soil for you by making tunnels , make tunnels for water to flow through , and turn the coffee grounds into worm castings for you. Well , actually for the plants. lol Coffee shops may be happy to give you coffee grounds rather than paying to have them taken to a landfill .
I also get some discarded vegetables and fruits from a local supermarket. My chickens love them . Pigs would also. What the chickens do not eat goes into my compost pile. One way or another it gets used up rather than just wasted in a land fill .

Al: Put some short rubber hose pieces on the rake tines in the spacing you want for the rows . Then you can make two or maybe even three at once.

I use the edge of wood, works perfectly to make very level, straight and perfect depth. Just lay a yard stick on the ground then use your wood to press your lines, cake city. Makes beautiful rows. You're welcome.

50F/10C is about as cold as it gets where I live! If it drops under 68F/20C we start putting on warm clothes! Funny how we adapt so well to our local climates.

In southern California my former wife used to put on a nice warm sweater when the night time temperature dropped down to 90 * F. She was " COLD " or so she said. It was only 15 * F below our normal daytime temperature of 105 * F.

A fun tip for Olivia....cut a slice tomato about a quarter of an inch wide, place it on top of a flowerpot filled to within an inch of the top, cover to the top with more soil, water well and get ready to count your tomato plants 5 to 10 days later. Cheaper than buying seeds.
