I'm so glad I found this! My great grandmother worked there during WWII and I've always wondered what it was like inside! Thank you so much for this :D
It would be interesting to see. Its off the beaten path, and I think there was a group who tried to get it turned into something like a museum, but it was mostly demolished anyways. Sadly.
So the organization that was trying to save the roundhouse when it was still actually standing had a site on the web that talked about its history and what was in site the building left us the office and machine shop the significance of this roundhouse is its where all the Pennsylvania duplex and experimental locomotives where housed and based for the crest line Fort Wayne and Chicago route it was the only place straight enough for such large engines like the s1 s2 q1 and 2 and the most successful of their duplexes the t1 and part of this route was the pennsy racetrack from van wert Ohio to Fort Wayne Indiana 31 miles straight and flat no turns that is why this needs saved Fort Wayne’s Pennsylvania facilitates are long gone and I don’t think there are any from this route left in Chicago this is it

Wonder if it could be restored as a tourist railroad museum roundhouse or a haunted attraction for Halloween?

A little spooky.
What would an adventure be without just a little spooky?
I have a book from s fireman who worked here.
I know it used to be a much larger facility. Sad that it was torn down...
@@MrPExplores At least we still have part of it. The property being small increases the chances of being bought and turned into a museum.
It’s obvious what some of the rooms were….anyone have any insight into what the function of this building was? Was it MOW work space?
It's all gone as of April '23
