To avoid getting the "shock from the handle" hold it with a closed grip near the top with maximum area of the hand to increase earthing. Also if you don't use gel/oil, avoid intensity more than 3 initially. Eventually you get used to it and the shock becomes soothing. Problem is without a trained acupuncturist it's tough to find the pressure points.

I feel the electricity even on the hand that grabs the pen, and if i cover the pen with no-coductive material or wear a glove, it doesnt work. Is it normal?
Do not block the pen by insulating it with gloves of any kind. Your bare hands must be used to hold the pen while pressing the pen to your body. This is an electrically charged pen and an electric circuit must be made between the handle and tip. Hint: ever test a 9 volt battery with your tongue to see if it is still good? If there is any voltage left in the battery your tongue will tingle because it completes an electrical connection between the + and - of the 9V battery. It’s the same idea with the PEN only the electronics inside allow it to pulse that tingling from settings 1-9. If you don’t want to feel the full strength of the pen try inserting an older AA battery and see how much less the tingling or muscle movement there is. The best place to try it first is the meaty part of your thumb on the palm of your hand.
