Although I’m not diabetic, but my brother was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 21 years old. He didn’t take care of himself and sadly passed away at age 40. My older brother was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and he’s not taking care of himself either. I really wish he would take this disease very seriously. I see him headed in the same direction as our brother who passed. I’m here because I want to learn as much as I can about Diabetes. Thank you so much for having this channel. It’s extremely helpful! Stay well.
You guys are really inspiring. I’m a newly diagnosed type 1 and my wife and I are really adjusting and it’s not always easy. Thank you so much for this video and your others. They have helped us out a lot.
I grew up with a Dad who was type 1 and was the guinea pig for the 1st insulin pump. He is still in a research program 30+ years later. Here I am, at 40 years old and my husband was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 2 years ago. It was so hard for me...knowing and seeing everything my Dad went through, yet SO blessed to have some education on it all. Thanks for your inspiration and encouragement! As a spouse, it's a totally different ballgame!
Thank you for this video. This has been a concern of mind for my teen daughter. She’s had T1D for 4yrs and is really good about being on top of her diabetes. But I can tell when it starts to be overwhelming and make sure I’m always available to help when she needs it. Hoping she has as great a spouse as you do.
I'm sure that she's going to find someone amazing, they are out there! And T1D certainly doesn't have to slow us down, happy to help if you or her have any questions
Lol. I love this. My husband usually won’t try any hanky panky if I’m under 120. I usually plummet quickly. However if I’m in the 130s-140s he’ll give me gummies and I know what that means. 😂😂😂😂 if I’m above 190 he’s like yay it’s time to party! If I’m like no he’s like well you’re high. I’m trying to help you out here! 🤨
Oh my goodness! My husband and I are the same way! 130-140 is PFS perfect f******g sugar is what he calls it 😂 meaning it’s great all around. I seriously have never heard anyone say this! Although when my sugar gets high he just leaves me be. I can get a little cranky 😬
I have type 1, too! I've only been diagnosed since May 2020, so I'm still adjusting, and I was off to a rough start because I am a kid and I had DKA. My A1C was 18.7, the doctors were shocked I wasn't in a coma. I'm shocked because I was in the early stages and already had really high A1C. When I arrived at the hospital, my blood sugar was a whopping 780 and I was 68 lbs. Not fun, but I survived it. Good to know that you educated us like this!
I just wanted to say thank you both for your candid approach and feed podcasts. I weighed to my most recent pump.. T slim and it's thanks to you I switched to tru-steel., No more bent cannulas ❣️ keep up the great work. 💜💜💜
Hi Matt and Lisa. I’ve watched your videos before and even though liked them, never commented. However, this time, I absolutely wanted to. You’re an adorable couple with maturity and good sense way beyond your years. The love and caring you have for each other is unmistakable. You share the responsibility of Diabetes all within comfort levels that work for both of you. So inspirational!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us! I'm so glad that you enjoy the videos, and we are so grateful to have amazing viewers like you!
in the light and fun video, there was a moment of real pain. Im a solo father to a T1D son, my father was T1D and i lost him, my grandfather was T1D, he had a good innings but it took him as well. for 8 years now, i have never had a full nights sleep. i wake up 2-3 times a night to see if my son is still alive/ breathing. i hate mornings as the first thing is to see if my son survived the night! and this is with dexcom. i saw the same in your wife. take note!!!
New sub here ❤ the worry that our partners go through is oftentimes overlooked. My husband worries more than I do lol but seriously I'm 37 and idk why it never occurred to me to look up others like me. I want to be around to watch my son grow up and I want to thrive at life. Watching your videos is truly inspiring and I'm making an appt with my endocrinologist today. Thanks for sharing your story. You have a beautiful relationship BTW
you guys are too cute!!! i am so happy i found this video because these are literally some of the issues i was wondering about (about to get my pump soon). You are truly blessed to have each other!
Thank u!! Thanks u!!! You are such an adorable couple!!! Please include Lisa in more videos, she has a perspective that we don't hear from spouses of T1D's very often. I'm a surgical type one (which technically is a type 3C but no one knows what that is. Basically I'm the same as a Type one only that I don't have digestive enzymes, so my endo refers to me as a surgical type 1. ) I had my pancreatectomy at age 52 (on my bday!! of all days!!) so we were freaking out at the beginning. My husband follows me too and although many of my D friends say that would never do that. That would create the "diabetes Police in a spouse!! I disagree. I feel like he's got my back especially when we're apart due to work or traveling. And I know it eases his mind to know where I'm at instead of not knowing. Like you and Lisa, we communicate all the time even after 35 years. I know he has my back and I have his as well!! Thank you so much for your videos!!! I learn something with each video I watch!! And I'll say it again...I for one would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Lisa again. She's too damn cute not to hear from and I hope she gives us more insight as to the issues with being the spouse of a PWD!! Thank you again!! U both ROCK!!!!!!
@@FTFWARRIOR I for one would love to hear her thoughts as u guys celebrate more years married. I'm sure even at this point, she and my hubby could commiserate & tell some great stories about dealing with us when were being less than kind when high and not putting our thoughts together properly when low!! HAHA!!! I really do LOVE your vlogs!! I just recently found you so I've been binge watching. I know Isaid Lisa is cute but you're very handsome as well, don't mean to embarras u!! HAHA!! Keep up the good work!!
My mom used to ask all the time and I had to set boundaries as I got older, like, "I got this mom!!!!" Whereas my husband I told him when we were dating, let me tell you when I need help. That works for us.
After surgery for a smashed collarbone a few weeks ago, my wife had to ring the nurses at 3AM to tell them I was going low (there was no way I would have woken up with the drugs they put me on). We’d anticipated this, but the nurses were quite shocked to get that call :-) Great episode. In bed, rolling on my site etc has never been an issue, but sometimes it can hurt her....always use the clip on cover... I do avoid rolling on my Dex though...theyre expensive...
Fortunately at this point in my diabetes I don’t have to worry about going low at night. Just going up. But I know it may become an issue in 10 or 20 yrs. Hopefully I adjust well.
Hi, I watched the video and thought you guys are really adorable... I felt like there was a question that could have been asked "are you guys afraid to have children because if the high risk that they will also have Type1 diabetes"?
I am also type one diabetic but in India no one is ready to understand this type one n just becaus of type 1 they refuse me to marry wd me ... It's big problem ... 😔Thanks guys for this 👍
I've been recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I feel that my wife is stressed and tired of hearing about it. I don't want her to feel bad so I'm no longer going to speak with her about it. I'm sure I can deal with the condition on my own. I wonder if this is a common problem in relationships
I've definitely heard that before with our clients. Happy to have a chat if you need some tips, though I'd recommend starting with a training that I did that can help to control blood sugars so that you won't HAVE to stress about it (and neither will she). Here: diabetesinaction.com
More than men a women life is more challenging coming to marriage life .......Finding an understandable person being supportive person........ what iam facing it right now .........while my parents are looking for a match and when it is time to say them that my daughter is diabetic.......... That is the most challenging part...........
Bhaavya Kotha I could understand. It's been a mess, hope things get sorted. Stopped making assumption. Now-a-days everyone has their own challenge. Go for possibility. No one knows that we just wouldn't get it fixed just by repeating a routine of good day, controlled BG. It's more to it.
@@FTFWARRIOR I’ve been using it for two years now, got tired of the low blood sugars with the medTronic pump using Humalog. Lowest a1c was 8.5 though…gonna increase the dose and get better.

Great video. Are there any examples of healthy guys who are willing to take care and support their type 1 wife/ girlfriend. My ex husband and now an ex boyfriend (Canadian and British) seemed unable to find their unselfish side. Don’t want to become too cynical about the chances after 51 years with disease and being a young 64!
I know there are, as I have many friends with type 1 girls. And you can bet my sister's future man will be supportive haha (she has type 1 as well). Keep looking and stay strong!
