  • The prolific American singer promotes the new craze of ragtime. He labels classical music outdated, much as rock & roll fans of the 1950's called it square! A Canadian Victor record of brown shellac, bearing the HMV logo & produced by The Berliner Gram-O-Phone Company.

That's because he's from USA. Think a few reached British labels, but mainly find him on Victor. Glad you enjoyed & thanks for viewing.

Great song. I’m a big fan of his. He recorded a lot of Irving Berlin tunes.

Sadly, his records aren't always easy to find in the UK. Always buy them when I get the chance.

Recorded Oct. 28, 1908 and released on shellac acoustic VICTOR 78 #16144-B (B-6568)
I'm thinking: why is this song so instantly likable? But of course! It's by George M. Cohan.
This is from Cohan's Broadway show, THE AMERICAN IDEA. It had 64 performances in Autumn 1908. Co-star was Trixie Friganza. This rotund vaudevillian headliner was famous for comic schtick with a specially designed double bass. Here's a minute film segment of her famous, "The Girl from Honolulu".

Thanks for the background & the date. Label is so faded its almost impossible to make out the words 'American Idea' Sorry, but the link to "The Girl From Honolulu" doesn't show.
