- SRAM not only released two new 12 speed AXS groupsets but also the Rockshox Reverb AXS wireless dropper seatpost. The new Reverb AXS dropper post does away with cables but doesn’t come cheap. Our technical Editor in Chief, Rob Weaver, got acquainted with the new AXS dropper out in Arizona.
Could SRAM change the the way we use dropper posts forever? Or perhaps this new technology has no place in mountain biking for you.

I know that not all innovation was asked for by the customers, sometimes the companies have the good ideas first, but in this case i feel like the manufacturers are desperately trying to create a need for electronic shifting and seatposts.
I love the wireless aspect because it's now very easy to install, just like a regular seat post! That is awesome. What is not awesome, is the price! I will gladly deal with installing a cable, to save ~$500. That's not worth it to me, at this time.
I think it’s great tech, but the price has to come down before I’ll buy one. Same for the AXS drivetrain.
I love it... But i can't spend £700 ... I could justify maybe £500.
too many batteries to charge, too often. i'd be happy with a wired system and longer life, single battery (like shimano). also, this needs to include suspension control.
Awesome video thank you. I absolutely love this dropper, unlike the drivetrain where I don’t care for the lack of tactile feedback from the electronic shifter, I really enjoy the quick response from the button for the dropper vs the long push on a mechanical.
The future is now old man!
great tech but &800 for dropper post you can get Magura Vyron Elect Wireless Dropper Seatpost for &300
Looks great, happy to hear it works well. The main added benefit is no cabling, that makes it so easy to add to any bike - kind of retrofit an existing bike. Price is what people are willing to pay for it, I guess...
£700 to do away with a cable, I think not 👎
Eddie Runcorn on Hibike you‘ll find it for 500.- Then it has almost the same cost as one with cable because : 300-400 for the post + longtime service = 500-600 Total . The Axs dont needs service, you can f.e bleed the Axs in seconds!
Eddie Runcorn just get a bike with internal routing and BOOM! All your cable problems are gone.
Eddie Runcorn yeah the magura vyron is a lot better value
550 you mean
Just fitted mine and very pleased with it. Well worth the price tag as can share between my MTB and fat bike
Started with the Magura which Iv broken twice due to getting wet on rides out just invested in the RockShox reverb and it on another level absolutely amazing
I was gonna say "that is the post for me" until I heard the price - wow!!
I have three dropper posts. Two cable and one reverb hydraulic. Not having to spend time faffing with fresh cables feels very appealing and the build quality looks great. If I sold all three dropper posts that could be a bit towards this and ultimately I only need one kidney. I think this makes better value and sense than wireless derailleur as I’ve smashed a few of them over the years. When I can afford/justify then I will take the plunge.
Hell no, I'd never pay that kind of money! (But I do hope these improvements make their way to the non-wireless models.)
They did
@@RCKING1 lol I said that a year ago and I was damn close to buying that dropper last week😅🤦🏽♂️
This looks great, especially having struggled with two different faulty seatposts this weekend. Design is good and no cables to get in the way, so even I can fix it out on the top of a mountain in a hailstorm. Price is now down to £500, so getting towards a sensible upgrade.
I had the Magura Veyron, works with delay, and problems with the electronic unit. I ve just installed the RX AXS and tried it out in the workroom. Im exited to take it to the trails. It s very well build and I payed 627€. I want the best, the price is just ok.
As a bit of a tech geek, I like it, Especially like the clean looks on the bike with both dropper and drivetrain. Im gonna order one soon, but the wireless drivetrain will have to wait, I upgraded to a sram gold XX1 for my 2016 Bronson in November, hopefully the parts will be available separately in the next few months. Well done sram.
Give it a couple of years and the price will be much more reasonable. Wireless will be normal in probably 5 years, but I’m not an early adopter so for now brand x it is!
the price is a little difficult to swallow, but saying that it would be the only wireless option that i would consider
It’s about 100 grams heavier once you factor in a regular dropper cabling.
I use a ks, under seat lever one. No cables, no spring, no worries (except for taking your hand off the bars). Costs 650 quid less, weighs less and is more reliable.
Me too!!!
@@jamesowen418 And why not use a quick release and hi rite? What stuff do you ride? I know a pro who rides downhill with 150€ bike and big Gaps. So go on.
@@Musixlover100 Err... Its easier with a lever than having to stop and adjust a 1980's Hite rite 😂
It might be unique and the best available but for so much money I can buy two droppers for both bikes. Also you can't easily change between bikes, if the seat angle is different. So this won't be done.
Yea, more like 3 to 3 and a half droppers.
The 1x reverb retails for £375 but sells for around £200-£250. So if discounts are similar and it’s a £400 post I would buy that. But might have to wait a bit for the discount to appear if it does at all
Thanks for the review, is the post able to be stopped at any height not just up and down ? I am looking at maybe going this way for a custom build I am doing on a 2021 Specialized Kenevo, the reason I am thinking of getting the Reverb AXS is to eliminate cables as I am also going to use a Rohloff hub which has to have 2 cables inside the frame and leaves very little space for a cable from the dropper and could be an issue. I am thinking not having the extra dropper cable through the frame will solve any issues, I did wan't to have the Rohloff E14 with wireless shifting but at this time it's not compatible with a Brose motor.
One of the most important factors is it weight, the price is absurd but if it were lighter than a cable set up then it helps to justify the coin. Considering its not mentioned I would assume its heavier?
I want a 27.2!!!! What's the weight?
The cost of 7 brand x droppers which from my experience has been both one of the cheapest and most reliable..... Just to do away with a cable?? And for what? It's not like we mtb'rs care about aero advantages like roadies do.....
Also that battery is right in the way of all the UK grit and mud...
I think I'll pass thanks.....
It costs as much as my cannondale scalpel did secondhand.
Well....I’m really happy with my $200 pnw droper post....
To be honest when you told that this wireless seatpost is as fast as the classic one I was wondering is it real need of getting this and pay twice (or even more) for the part that isn't better or just gadget. What I mean is that if you're not racer there is no added value except weight.
How do you recharge the Dropper? You have to remove battery after each ride?
The Magura (even the new, 2018 version) has to much delay: u have to push the button once and wait for the right moment to push the saddle down. I use it for a year (All-Mtn.) and thats not satisfying for me at all. When I change to an other dropper post the workshop charges around 100,- € installing Reverb with oil hose. A good dropper (ks) with cable is around 350,-, mount it myself. AXS is here to get for 650,- € without mounting tricks.
I can’t wait for wireless breaks!
Nice review. However £700!? Ridic! I'll stick with my Fox Transfer thanks
My whole bike costs less, than that dropper, but yeah, id buy one..
I HAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEE single bolt posts, but at least the included the forward bolt. Hopefully it has a lot of movement (saddle tilt).
what they didn't include is the weight lol
oh boy with all these groupset advancing and the prices of trickle down stuff goes down I can finally afford tourney groupset
So Rockshox did a wirless Dropper wich Magura has invented their Veyron long bevor and much cheaper:)
Just wait a few years and electric droppers will be more reliable and cheaper
Kaeden Fungi at least 10 years...I guess....
Still waiting for the normal cable ones to do that first
Josh Scott what do you mean? Their are decently cheap mechanical droppers that are actually good
Is it that time yet? Lol
400 neighborhood give me call 800 not answering
Or you can buy Magura
Vyron seatpost for 350 EU
Magura Veyron. 350 EUR.... Just sayin'
vyron
Vyron.
I own both and after the shitty service from Magura I won't buy another product. It stopped taking a charge and the only thing they offered was to buy a new post
Value should be a forethought, not an afterthought.
I just did a wireless drop in the loo...
No, it’s not worth the price premium. I don’t like exposed wires on wired dropper posts, but as a first time buyer I’m not about to spend 500 additional dollars for the luxury of not having a wire under my top tube.
this is $1500 w taxes in canada
im not easily impressed like bikeradar
£700... sorry but that is a ridiculous price
It uses a motor not a linear actuator?!
a linear actuator has a motor too
I am waiting for the charging post. “Can’t go riding, my bike isn’t charged” . Love tech but this is a big no thanks.
800... no thanks.
£$700 ....no way .
Thumbs down for the music. Just have the guy talk about the tech without all the unnecessary background noise. Makes focusing on the tech more difficult. Just MHO.
Meh.
no thanks
I ride bikes to get away from all of this electronic crap. Once again, the industry is finding a solution for a problem that does not exist. SMFH!!!!! :(
it's pretty bulky and ugly. And i'm not sure what the benefit is
I'm thinking super easy install; in and out quick, if you want to do maintenance.
im sorry.. but, that's completely stupid. such a waste of money
Pure junk, wireless=you can polish a turd?
