Fantastisk kamp. Takk for postingen Infogrames :-)
I forgot about some of these Norwegians who became stars in England premier League in the 90s...Fjortoft, Flo, Bjornebye, Thorsvet ...then more emerged latter 90s like Henning Berg , Leonhardson, Heggem and more... would be good to see Norway rise again
Norway was once a very dangerous team, a team that many other Scandinavian countries like Denmark feared. Norway has beaten Brazil many times, they have beaten Argentina many times, Norway has also beaten Russia and other strong teams.Norway is also the second Scandinavian country that has reached the World Cup quarterfinals in France, in 1938, but lost to Italy. In 1994 Norway was number 2 in the Fifia rankings, what on earth happened to this once powerful team since 2000? Why is Norway not as strong as they once were?
1990s was a golden generation of players, simple as that. Norway's got promising talents again now, and attacking tactics, but it'll still be 2017-2020 until that team is going to start performing its best.
bnbalenda I agree with Red Tuesday. It was a golden generation with many talented players, but most importantly, they really played with their hearts and gave it all for the nation. In opposite to many of the players who came in afterwards, and were fairly good, but were focusing more on their personal success and believed they were the best players in the world. John Arne Riise (Liverpool) is a "good" ambassador of the modern Norwegian players who came after this golden generation, J.A.R is probably one of the most stupid and most self-centred players I've seen. He never understood that some players can be a popular Primadonna, but then they must be good and have charisma. And their coach ("Drillo", "the mad professor") was excellent and made the best out of the team. And they played as a team, and he didn't just choose the 11 best individuals to play, the players had to adopt to the team. Although many of the players were good, they were not the best players in the world either. All in all it was just this lucky coincidence with the the right players and the right coach, that at times may occur for a small country. So please, don't regard Norway as a great historic football nation - we're not.
Norwegian youngsters brought since then have not been as talented or consistent as that golden generation of the 90s. The league has not developed that much if compared to other mid-profile European leagues.
I was standing at the main post infront the Norweegian royal castle during that match, heard twice a extreme yeaaaa over Oslo, will never forget it, and where I was during the match. We even pressented the gun for the national team
BBC article about Charles Reep brought me here. He was a guest of honour at this game, invited by the Norwegians. " Then aged 88, Reep was held in high regard by Norway's manager Egil Olsen, who was a professor of sports science and had taught the subject for 20 years before taking charge of his national team. Olsen became the latest in a long line of football people to seek Reep's advice, flying into Heathrow and travelling down to his Devon home for a five-hour discussion on performance analysis. ...And Norway played a version of Reep's preferred style" BBC
interesting comment - that Norway team's biggest strength was other sides under-estimating them. There was a 0-0 draw out there if we were humble enough to take it.
@@dazpearce2096 Preparations is part of the game. Being underdog is underrated. Usually the big nations qualify for the WC despite the media hold them as favorites. They weren't that dissimilar to the England side which got to the semis in 1990. They just got found out against Norway because England lucked their way in Italy. Shearer, Fowler and Ferdinand were England strikers available here - hardly little choice up front.
