The power lines were making me nervous in the demo. I could feel a tingle of electricity.
I was thinking that if he gets blasted out of his Keds when he gets a line arc I hope his buddies at least post the video. UA-cam GOLD moment. But then I remembered he wears Crocs he’s safely insulated lol
Got to the GigaParts booth at 0900 on Friday and every last one was sold out already. But they were kind enough to let us check out the one demo model that was on hand, and let me say it was pretty awesome. I can't wait to be able to order one when the production line spins up.

I can definitely attest to the over-flexibility of the SOTABeams Carbon 6 mast. When you do your in-depth video, please show us the relative bending involved with equal lateral tension on the two masts. Also on the 10m version. Maybe other manufacturers' products as well? Gigaparts sells lots to choose from, but most of us don't enjoy throwing away money on guesswork. Flexibility and weight are the areas of greatest disappointment in most of these masts.

I want to like my Carbon 6, but I broke the 2nd from the bottom section the 3rd time I used it and have been nursing it along ever since. This one looks much more stout. Being able to use the top section is reason enough for me to upgrade.

Been on a waiting list for Sotabeams Tac mini for almost a year. Purchasing this instead.
Looking forward to the release of this mast. I like that the top section piece is sturdy and useable. That is one of my complaints with the Sotabeams Carbon 6, of which I am on my second. I will definitely be buying one when available. I have never been to the Dayton Hamvention and was telling my wife last week that I may go next year. Looks like I should have gone this year and tried to be one of the lucky 23. Thanks for the video.

I bought a 41 ft carbon fiber mast on Alibaba to construct a clone of the DX Commander 12.1. My mast is more substantial but collapses to 5 ft. It was not meant to be backpack portable.
The concept failed. Carbon fiber is conductive and completely destroyed the resonance of a very simple antenna concept. I tried to use it as support for a simple single-band vertical. Same problem.
I reordered an identical fiberglass version of the mast from the same Alibaba company and reassembled the DX Commander antenna. It worked as designed. Conclusion: CF is a great lightweight and strong support for EFHW, EFRW or dipole antennas. But it fails as a support upon which to build a vertical wire antennas as a result of its conductivity. 73 de K8YX

Packed it’s an inch shorter than the carbon 6? Day one purchase. Phenomenal. If you can actually get 10m in that size too that’s also a day one purchase!! Can’t wait!! My backpack will love it

Rule #1 when using a carbon fiber mast. Avoid power lines.

If the price isn't too crazy, I'll wait for the 30'. If it's the same length, it will fit in my travel bag which I take in my Jeep for POTA. I'm doing an on the road, road trip POTA for Hamvention and so far hit parks in CO, OK, KS and MO from my start in Arizona. It's day before Hamvention opening and I'll be glad to get out of the vehicle and walk around after the 2,300 miles. I was going to shoot for IN or KY going through today, but I was behind schedule and need a break before heading back. I'll try to hit them on the way back. 73 and thanks for another video! I’d also recommend a self standing support ground rod it’d fit over like the carbon 6 has but if you could get it to be roughly the same size packed it’d be perfect. My one complaint about the carbon 6 and self standing pole combo is that the pole is longer than the packed mast which makes for awkward fitting into my backpack

$80 is too steep. The carbon 6 is $60 and the tenkara fishing rods off amazon are only $30
$80 for a 20ft mast is silly
@@josephthomas8318 If it is that compact, it's worth it to me for a true 30 ft mast and not a fishing pole with an unusable top section because it is too flimsy. I want it to be man-portable in a small bag. Some of the things I have seen are only about 4 feet when closed. That's too huge.

Doubt it. Most of these small carbon fiber masts are designed for temporary portable operating.
Considering the wind and storms TX gets you're lucky the amazon fishing poles last as long as they have for you.

Argh. Carbon Fiber. I use flag poles for vertical aerials as not Carbon Fiber. I have found the Carbon Fiber rods on vertical aerials build up with static and conduct electricity. Also on a Campsite we use a lady got struck by lightning and up in hospital. Luckily it wasn't a direct strike. Not for me. Cheers from old George .Ps do a Voltage Insulation Test on it .
I’d think the copper you’re running up the mast would be more likely to attract lightning, no?
@@Kinetic79 Yes i think it would. To me it's the static build up as wind air passing any aerial can charge up. On the aerial wire part I use bleed resistors to leak away static. But as wire is isolated from pole. If its carbon fibre etc that will need an earth stake. Plus can affect aerial swr.
