A friend of mine in Atlanta is a member. The video is largely correct. Two comments. First, when members are voting on new members, it has to be unanimous. If anyone votes no, you are denied. Second, the club lets you play pretty much as often as you want the first year you are a member because they know you are excited, and all your friends are bugging you to take them. After that, though, they don't want to see too much of you. If you play too frequently, you will get a letter, which you don't want.
Here in Wilmington North Carolina, there is a country club named “Cape Fear Country Club”. On their website, there is no place to go to fill out an application. The website says “please contact your friends, coworkers or acquaintances who are presently members”. What this is really saying is “if we like you, you’ll be invited”.
Unless something has changed in the past 5yrs, tipping caddies is absolutely forbidden. Members take care of the caddies during The Masters. In the 80’s and 90’s guests tipping caddies got out of hand so it was stopped.
Past Masters winners aren't members and can only play with a current member, according to Sir Nick faldo who said this during a interview at last year's Masters
One of the reasons entrance fees are relatively low for a club of this stature is because tee times are limited. As you said - the course is closed during the summer months!
LMAO. You think it's limited tee times and not the fact that the tournament brings in more than enough to cover all the expenses and then some? What do you think keeps the cost of food and drink during the tournament so low? They are not catering to weekend golfers.
@@rickoliveira3807 Reading comprehension is obviously a problem for you - “One of the reasons …”, which was in response to a point made in the video. Thanks for the information skippy, but having played over 150 courses in a number of countries as a single digit handicap, belonged to a few very expensive golf clubs (and still do) and being very familiar with the Masters, Augusta and the history, I really didn’t need it.
Including the story about the Eisenhower Tree would have been good too. When POTUS says "I want that damned tree cut down and you have the brass to say... No Sir... That's brass.
They don’t actually get the green jacket either. You only have it for a year, then it must be returned to the club to be worn only during the week of the masters. You also must get approval from the club on when where and what you’ll be wearing when donning it in public. I can’t remember which pro it was, but one over the years conveniently kept forgetting to send the jacket back. He’s a one off though.
A few things you left out, all the members, no matter if they are worth billions or not have to work at the club during the Masters tournament. Bill Gates in his first year helped with the scoring system. Another thing is that you said the annual dues are low, and that is true most years, but the first year they "Tiger-proofed" the course members got a rather steep bill for all that work. Normally the money CBS pays to the club covers most of the work they do on the club each year, leaving the yearly dues at a low level.
It's interesting that a non-equity club would impose assessments on members. But to paraphrase Vern Lundquist "Augusta National. A club like no other". 😄
It says everything about the ridiculous game, which I love to play, that the people who run it have this despicable club as the only major that doesn't move, it's crazy that this happens and will contribute to the slow death of the sport

Materialistic? Cheaper than most initiation fee, cheaper than most yearly, cheap air bnb, cheap sandwiches. You don’t even have to be super rich to join, just got to be asked.

That's how nearly all decent golf clubs are
probably a private club
@@brahamthomas1198 Seriously? You set a pretty high bar which has to be met before you will consider a golf club "decent".

It was Gary Player. He was back home in South Africa and the chairman at the time called him and said send it back. He told him to come get it.

The edited transitions are too intense - I’m blind…

I missed what was a secret.
The secret is most of this is completely made up.
Those RFID tracking chips are so not augusta. I thought no technology was allowed there.
Patrons are not allowed to send out information during the tournament. ANGC is in control of what information is disseminated, and how.
Now that I have watched this, they know...I can never get in now.
