This is a rich culture of the Goddess still active in Croatia. I think Hungarians and Croatians have a lot in common. Not the language, but the beauty and the majesty of the rituals.
You just should know, that some of the shown dances, were actually Serbian, not Croatian. In general you are right, as our cultures are tight together.

At 11:48 I remember this one very well from my childhood here in the USA. My mom and I attended a weekly folk dance club where many of the members had visited Croatia and other countries to learn the dances and songs. They brought back records to play and would teach us all these dances. I used to love when the women sang and this one when they spun so fast and they screamed EEEEYAA! Haha! ❤️❤️❤️

Surprisingly, dances and music looks very similar to Russian ones. Except for some 'western-european-styled' insertions, all melodies sound very native to my Russian ear!
Literally everything shown in this video is older than the concept of Western European common culture so idk where you're seeing any of that. This is authentic croatian tradition, similar to Russian sure, but I don't believe what's different to it here is necessarily taken from Western European culture...
Yes, I am Russian and can confirm that chorus songs and collective dances styles and melodies are very relative to our ear. But not for dances in pairs. They look Italian and sometimes even Turkish for me. Nothing similar to us - that's more Mediterranean culture notes, than slavic.
@@ljubicacorak4932 Chorus songs sounds very Russian for me, despite the fact that I don't understand the language. :) And crowd dance look and sound also very close to Russian and Ukrainian style. As for pair dances, they are very Mediterranean and sometimes even Turkish. Nothing similar to our melodies.

Thank you for asking, I'll add to the description. I still have the program from the opening ceremony at ICSD 2017, but it's in a box somewhere. I suspect this was the National Folk Dance Ensemble of Croatia, LADO. One thing that impressed my students and myself was how many traditional music and dance groups were active in Zagreb during our visit. We met some dancers from this ensemble a day or two later when we were walking around the town.
It's from the area of Vrlika. I am not sure if the singing style has a name, but it is a common technique in the Dinaric ethnographic region. There's a type of Dalmatian polyphonic song called Groktalica that uses similar techniques
this is a professional dance group top of the tops the quality of the performance is astonishing feel free to put them on a par with the Ballet of Moscow or St. Petersburg

No, nobody knows where Croatians originated from there are just claims that have nothing to back them up. The one people most commonly go with is the theory that Croats came where they are along with other slavic countries
