I like information about edible wild things. In this case Fir, Pine and Spruce trees. I spent one summer drinking fir needle tea in the mountainous regions of Oregon. I suplemented that with spirulena algae powder (I brought with me), wild strawberry leaves and huckleberries. I spent 3 weeks eating only these wild foods and drinking water fresh off the mountain, I have to tell you, I felt so good, so very good. I felt strong like a wild deer. It was amazing.

Labor Day weekend I was feeling Flu-ish. I started eating pollen cones and the next day I was feeling great! Six weeks later and I'm having amazing healing from consuming Evergreen species.
I think that was a white pine at the end of the video. A friend told me a tip for remembering white pine is W-H-I-T-E has five letters. 5 needles = White Pine!

Nice video, I have watched a few other videos and they said the Ponderosa Pine has 3 long needles and is toxic and you said there are only 2 kinds of pines. There are a couple other types they mentioned that are also toxic but I don't recall the names.
Yew tree taxus baccata is deadly and the same as fir. Wouldn’t drink anything with 1 needle. The guy obviously knows his stuff, but some things should be cleared up.
I found this reference online: "Ponderosa, Monterey, and lodgepole pine are reported to be toxic, and also Norfolk island pine, balsam fir, and yew pine (these three are not really true pines)... "
Do you happen to know when the needles go bad? I just received some put them in a ziplock bag. Had then in the pantry for a week, they are a little brown I forgot about them. Now I’m not sure if they are rotting.
Hemlock needles are shaped like fir needles but with a white "racing" strip on the underside. Needles are in rows on both sides of the branch, like yew.

Not with pine, you need to boil bc the needle is so tough, it pulls out the nutrients. Probably don't microwave or boil at excessive temperatures for long periods
These don't look like the forest pines we have in Australia. I'm not sure whether I could eat them. They are mass grown then harvested for export I think.
Hi...Hey i know this is 3 years old & i watched it back then, but im in Australia & u say pine needles have either 2 or 5 long prongs, in OZ here growing on my land my pines have 3 needles, im not 100% sure now but from other videos they say it's yellow pine & it's said they are ok to drink, could u answer me if im ok to consume these needles, I've watched so many videos & now im more confused than from when i first started checking years ago, it's winter here now & i want to start making tea & now im worried because u say on this video only use 2 or 5??? It shouldn't be so confusing! Our world is so small now we should be getting information on world wide varieties!
Hello I found your channel from watching the local Alameda fire and today I find you again. Can you help ID a tree, yesterday we went to Palmerton park here in Rogue River the tree I think is a fir or larch the needles are flatish very very short maybe 3/16 of an inch long they are spikey in shape but soft to the touch and the seed cones are small hard dark brown about the size of a glass marble, the branch structure is delicate soft and flexible similar to a Norfolk pine. Any best guess would be helpful there is no Norfolk Pine listed in the list of trees in the park there is a china fir listed but the vids I see show longer needles. Thanks

Pitty boiling it because you boil all the vitamins out of them. Better place then in hot water after boiling and leave them for 5-10 minutes
Correct! You never boil evergreen needles. You can pour SIMMERED - not boiling - HOT WATER over needles & steep 15 - 20 minutes. That's best.

I've been told NOT to boil the water. Warm 'til ALMOST boiling, then steep for 10-15 minutes. Boiling kills nutrients

Firs are genus abies, NOT pseudotsuga ('false hemlock'). The Douglas fir is Pseudotsuga menziesii, but that's not a true fir.
Not necessarily true about conifer needles. Hemlock has flat needles too.
