CT - stay on the Ghia! Don't let up, pedal to the metal, BABY! GIVE'ER!!!
Your buddy right one peace at a time when doing Autobody is better and you actually going faster. But you can’t see it but you are . I have 15 years doing it as a hobby. Take your time make it fun . It’s not like you’re going to do another one . Take your time make it fun
Thanks! I agree..I need to take my time and get things right. I do plan on doing more at some point. Are you still working on the same project or have you worked on a few?
When your spraying try to get used to just having air coming out then pull the trigger for the paint. Half trigger gives you air then there is a point when you get to the paint part. this will eliminate spits. when you get to the paint stage and clear stage this will be important.
I mentioned the same thing to him a few episodes ago…I love his projects and it’s been pretty neat watching his skills come along! Cheers to you!
@@joevergnetti767 yea for sure he is totally a NUBE...and this stuff is totally out of his element. Like his background is more music not cars.
@@Mikefngarage I’m totally checking out your channel - in high school I had a 73 (year I was born) super beetle and love all things VW.
Great video. This guy is hard working and fearless. Love The Ghia.
Hi CT, I like how your jumping right into it now. Yes, please listen to Mike's suggestions. He has been at the painting and body work for along time. Making mistakes is how you learn and you can always fix them. Don't jump around on projects unless your waiting on supplies or parts. You need one of those blowup paint booths like Mike has or everything in the shop will have overspray on it. The nice thing about those popups is you can take it down and store it when done.
That's a nice shell, needs a little love here and there but don't we all? Gonna be a lovely car when you're done, a real classic.
great progress 👍
Thanks buddy! )
Oh, new video is coming in a record time, good job, this Ghia will born again! Hope to see this car finished and running like new!
I anderstand a litle of english, but I love olds cars. So congratulations for your job. Very nice
Not gonna lie. It looks pretty good black
I know! I want to paint a car black someday. They say black is the hardest to get right. This one is going to be light blue I think...
Epic, CT. This is a real milestone among your assorted projects. You'll get it all right in the end. Looking forward to seeing you behind the wheel.
Thanks Nicholas! I appreciate that!
I think you getting the hang of it, and it takes time. It's fun watching it come back to life.
Thanks man! Yes, I'm starting to catch the surface of the many things to learn! =)
I'd rather finally see rusty on the road after all these years then the old ford. Your channel grew so fast with rusty and we still haven't seen it on the road yet
Coming right along on the Gaia CT! Keep up the good work because it will all pay off and you will have something to be proud of.
I am proud of your progress in your skills and presentation. I can say I really look forward to your episodes. Thanks for your efforts. Please keep it up.
Thanks Charlie!
Just take your time buddy. You'll get there. I've just found this channel. and I'm enjoying it. So good luck for the future. Paddy from Ireland.
Thanks for the LUV Brotha.....On the tamco primer. You will like it!!!!!
Thanks for all the help bro! =)
cant wait to get a Ghia for myself. love these.
Great progress, can’t wait to see this finished ✅
Just some tips Wet the floor before you start spraying it will cut down that over spray stickiness, also long flows with the gun with a slight overlap don't keep pulling trigger in one area your just get pant build up and it will run and sag it might even orange pill the pant, and then you got a load of work to do to correct it, 🤔 other then that good work and all the best.
Not to mention paper overalls to protect his skin from that crap..
Good CT ... We finally heard from you about our favorite swamp dragon !
Keep up the great work CT ...not one butt crack shot ..you the master now...lmao
You can get an adapter for your eastwood gun for the Disposable pot 3m system.
Always start a car with the middle of the roof, and use motions going back and forth, not just forth, and work your way down, always wet into wet areas only. Thank youuuuu, you have great spirit!
Looks good Nice job learning something new is always exciting. Can't wait to see it finished
Greetings from Italy. Welcome back, great job!
Thanks my friend! =)
your doing good ct just take your time its all new to you
as for the runs even after years of painting i still get a few runs no ones perfect even the professionals
Tio is right, even though this is just a protective coat, reduce your workload and increase your skills at the same time, by increasing your distance between gun & surface. Resist the temptation to cover in one pass. Several high light passes make a better application, and better adhesion.
“Looking good”!
Great to see you hitting it with epoxy! Looks like you're learning spray technique really well!
"Back in the day" when I was really getting into the body and paint part of restoration/renovation, we had very different supplies to work with. (This is the sixties and seventies)I used acrylic lacquer (Such as Lucite) plain ole alkyd enamel (Never could turn out a really good finish with it) and then Acrylic Enamel came along with hardener.
We didn't have the cool HVLP guns then. I used a garage sale DeVilbiss MBC gun made in 1948, and it worked well. Not knowing a whole lot about the body and paint craft, the learning curve was steep! I found that I was able to mix the paint with the right thinner, reducer or whatever pretty accurately, but my buddy Steve was a master at application.
The sticky floor deal is due to the drying properties of the paint you're using. After using an enamel, we often scrubbed down the horizontal surfaces with lacquer thinner, before they had a chance to start building up a thick coat of overspray! The last refinish job I shot was done in Deltron, which was a really great finish, similar to Imron.
What a treasure!
My first car, used, in 1973 :)
The fact that you are spraying this in your garage is 100% awesomeness
The fact that his brother has given him space in his big workshop is what is awesome. CT was working in a small area of his home garage before.
Came here after bob from I like to make stuff talked about this video series on his podcast. Awesome stuff man!!
Thanks man! I appreciate That. =) He does some amazing projects.
It will be a great car! LIKE A PEARL!
Good job. we learn something everyday. Thank you for sharing.
an amazing job on one of the best car bodies ever
Very interesting! Thanks from Russia!
Wow it takes a lot of hours, patience and sweat but finally your hard work pay off.Good job and Congratulations!
Sweet, let the body work begin.
Great job!
It's cool to have a farm without neighbors!
😁👍
Thank you for sharing, this channel is the best example how not to restore a car / manage a project. I'll use this material as business case. See you around.
You can buy an adapter for that Eastwood gun that will make it so you can use the 3M PPS disposable cup system. You will need those larger tips for the high build primer.
I think you should weld the lip on that battery tray onto the one you are going to use, keep on with the work it’s going to be an excellent build Regards Mike
Damn that car is sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love these videos @CT . Keeps pushing me along with my VW's! Keep the videos coming, respect from the UK 💪🏻😁
Thanks Paul! =)
Ghia’s are so cool! I’m starting body work on mine this winter. Thanks for the video! Mikes the the dude, eh!
please make videos of your restoration work and share them. this type of work is exciting and fun.
Nice one ct can't wait to see the end product, keep on, I'm staying tuned
Hi CT Great Job! Looking forward to the welding now!
Thanks Graem!!! =)
CT, great job, man. You are learning as you go. Practice will make perfect. I look forward to your next video, my friend.😊👍🤩
Thanks man!
Like your laid back easy going attitude, separates you from those other UA-cam channels in a positive way.
I like the dark Silverish look of the primer, it reminded me of the Super Hero Silver Surfer. I know, I'm not sure
why, the color isn't silver but that's what my brain told me. weird, right.
Thanks Mike. I do my best to keep it real. I know it looks like a black silver color. It's pretty cool!
Hints of the dragon in this video.... Very ready!
The Bondo patch behind the passenger front wheel well is where the Karmann Ghia factory badge sat in an indent.
He has the badge that he removed before stripping the car.
This car is coming along awesomely! I believe you will become great with a spray gun as you practice; you have the ability. Remember to keep the moldings and trim on the car. So many use Cal look rubber and eliminate the moldings on the Ghias and it makes them look too plain. West Coast Metric has a master set of rubber seals for this car that has EVERYTHING it needs in a single set; pretty cool.
Something tells me this car will be a keeper when you get through with it. It’s great to have a really nice car and enjoy it for many years.
Those wheels that the car had with the orange center remind me of some I’ve seen on Fiats; maybe 128s.
Good job ( luiz from Brazil)
Thank you! =)
Looking good - you are killing it!
Thank you! =)
Hola saludos desde chile good work
Very cool!!!!!
Nice job CT it’s looking good 👍🏻 just keep doing your best I’ll be here to keep watching your videos 👍🏻stay safe buddy
Thanks Antonio! I will! =)
Tip, if you wet the floor befor you paint you have less chance that dust will blow up ,and the floor will not stick
Great tip! Thanks Patrick! =)
Sure would be awesome if we could get Mike out here to do the fabrication and body work needed on this... bet he'd be able to do it all in 2 - 3 days. 😉
Doing all this, and learning all these skills is going to make restoring the 914, a relative breeze. Though I’m sure there will be different hang ups. Btw, my criticisms are meant to be informative, not hurtful. You’re doing a way cool thing, cheers!
Thanks Will! I agree. It will help future projects go much smoother! =) No offense taken my friend. I encourage feedback!
Looks good so far Keep plugging away it will come together
When you spray the roof or hood it helps to start in the center and work out from there it helps keep you from touching fresh paint
Thanks for the tips!
Fit for purpose. It’s just there to protect the metal anyway and give a good surface for the paint to adhere to.
looking good so far lot of work still to go on 😷👍
Great job
Paint looks good but watch a few videos on cap spraying
Thanks Mark! I will do that.
looks great!
Different year models on the tray maybe!
Yup subscribed for the dragon.
Gia's lookin good 👍
If I remember right that sat for a long time with very little rust and body damage. I say that car is pretty much a quick fixer. The dragon will go back together faster than the VW will. It is a cab bed and the front clip. The car is a big shell with not a lot of room to really work. But that car is so simple that it only took you a couple days to tear down.
I am wondering what color you are going to make the Ghia,,once it is painted it is going to look awesome,👍☝️👌👏🏼👏🏼
You may want to change that quarter panel. That way you will have a lot less body filler.
Hey put up plastic, and watch some you tube videos on how to paint 🎨. I know it's a primer so the car doesn't rust however you still want it to look good. You can't spray paint on that thick and expect good results.
Excellent video CT :) also Ghia looking nice on prime preparation also keep excellent quality also working doing and strange on battery tray for sure ! Think must special VW type on the one on top and may different model vechile!
ok some progress...i wanna see metalworking!!
Yes sir! =)
Great job 👍 coming along have a great Thanksgiving...
Very Nice!
paint the areas your going to reach over outer panels first ..inside the engine/trunk/boot first....then do the outer panels Last....so you don't touch it ( you or hose/ air lines )...
less important now but once you want " finish coats " it matters...
With UA-cam it is painful watching someone do it ass back ward, for gods sake watch a few pro's do some painting...
@@lennym1273
that is what is fun...the comedy of youtubers doing stuff....yeah it is painful sometimes...but mostly it is light entertainment....i try to help but most don't bother trying to learn...they see someone do it and think it is easy....practice....and study ...same way anyone gets good...
Good job.
On the battery tray just use the original part of the engine seal area. you can leave a edge. there and lap weld it. wont matter at all if it is lapped. engine seal will still work just fine.
Priming a car is good practice for when you paint it so it is a good idea to make believe you are painting it and try to do it right by starting with the inside from top to bottom then do the out side from top to bottom and try to keep a wet edge don't bounce from section to section.
I know you have Internet so try watching some pro's painting cars (Not amateurs) there is always a reason why the pro's do it the way they do it...
Thanks Lenny! That is great advice. I'm going to spend some time this week watching some paint channels.
I loved my two Karmann Ghia's. Hope you love yours also.
Great job! I wonder whether the battery tray that doesn't fit should be for the VW Bus!
Hey CT why don't you get yourself some of those nylon sanding discs for your grinder great for removing old paint and filler not expensive and last a lot longer than sanding discs great to see it coming together.
The ghia looks good in a mat black
Não está difícil. Vai ficar muito bom. 👏👏👏👏
Porque pela graça sois salvos, por meio da fé, e isto não vem de vós, é dom de Deus;
"Porque, se com a tua boca confessares a Jesus como Senhor, e em teu coração creres que Deus o ressuscitou dentre os mortos, será salvo;
( Salmos, 34:8 )
Spraying at night with the doors open is brave! Lol
Felicidades tienes un nuevo suscriptor
Always start on the interior of a vehicle first. Come out to the jams then the exterior. Paint with a flowing motion keeping a comfortable distance from the work. Check out a few videos and practice before your ready for the color base
Looking good ct👍

The non-fitting parts are from a rare Karmann Ghia Typ 34, you can sell them with ease.
I know it alot of work to replace a quarter panel but the right rear panel is really a mess from previous damage. You are putting alot of work into the car to make it right! Don't cut corners on your project!!! Keep up your hard work!!!
The problem is there IS no 'quarter panel.' You are looking at one flowing, uninterrupted body. It's all one piece from the rear to the front fender (running underneath the door) and including the roof. The trunk, hood, and doors are the only 'panels'
so literally just bought a 67 convertible today. needs completely redone gonna check out all your vid for advice on how to do basically everything
Awesome! Good luck and keep me updated! Check out Mike Fn Garage and vwdarrin as well.

@@CTmoog will do thanks for the recommendations.
i would spray the inside first so you dont risc rubbing on to fresh primer when you spray the outside.
A ghia with a Carrera running gear and suspension would be awesome
CT We are still waiting for the engine Restoration for the Ghia if i lived in Fla i would help you . Try and Focus only on the chia. if your still waiting on Parts then get the Tires on then you can roll it around hang in there we are all for ya.
Rare to find a Ghia that doesnt have its nose punched in.
That's a nice easter egg on the RL quarter panel LOL
Well, the job in going on, nice show today CT and the sequence is good and still well organised; but this cake is far from the oven
