Thanks for this. I just updated my Falcon and Alpex- I thought it would be much harder. As you say the old zoom is useful after a zoomed in shot to see a wider field of view especially if you have more than one moving target. The high end Canadian Thermals actually have a recoil based zoom reduction to immediately zoom out after a shot.

I have done the update but haven’t been able to get out with it yet. I like the idea of the being able to zoom .1 at a time, so looking forward to that! and I haven’t actually noticed the picture in picture change so I will look at that soon.
Just noticed that since the update I can’t see a thumbnail for the saved videos, also I cannot download them to my iPhone like I could before, have you noticed this too?
To be honest no I haven't noticed that as I always connect the scope to my computer to download all the footage as I find it easier for when I'm putting together videos. I will check it out though. Thanks for letting me know I will make a note of it. And pass the information on for you.

Hi Jim I went to the range and zeroed the Alpex which worked ok. A question.......I found that when I zeroed the rifle and got the reticule in the right place it looks low and slightly to the right in relation to the screen?. Is there a way to centre this on the screen once I have the zero?.
Hi mate yes this abit of an issue after zeroing. However hikmicro are working on it via an update so hopefully not long. Mine does the same but if you go up one click with the zoom does it centralise? Mine does so I just don't use it on the base mag I go up one click.
@@jimwood Hi Jim. Thanks for the reply. I tried the zooming in and mine doesn't centralise. I can see the difference between the centre point of the screen and the ret centre when I create a new ret profile (un-zeroed at x=0.00 y=0.00) and flick between the two. Mine is low and right. Hopefully the update will cure this. The other thing I have noticed is that the co-ordinate dimension increments do not match up from profile to profile. For example if I want 2 different ret profiles but want the same zero you would think that you could just set the new ret to the same x and y as the already zeroed ret but you cannot as the values are different. Not by much but not the same. For example you might be 39.4 on A but when setting B it goes 39.0 then jumps to 39.8?. That's a bit odd too.
Hi Jim they have also updated the power off mode in that you can cancel the 3 sec shut down if accidentally hitting the wrong button... As for the recoil activation recording works a treat with changeable seconds mine is on 7 secs... Cheers buddy 👍
Hi Jim. I finally went for the Alpex based on your reviews and help. Many thanks for that. I have a couple of questions which I would be very grateful if you could answer. Firstly I noticed the scope comes with some soft pads which are intended to be used on the scope rings when mounting. Is this a specific thing for digital scopes?. This is my first digital and from past experience of mounting normal glass I never used pads or tape with quality scope mounts. Should I use these?. Secondly how do I get the firmware update?. The scope is supplied with a link for Hikmicro's app but this app is not compatible with my phone ( I have an older phone). So if I can only get the update through the app I think I'm stuffed. Hi mate. Thats good to hear you have bought an Alpex I really hope you won't be disappointed with it. Ok so regarding the soft pads no I don't use them, the only time I have is on a normal day scope if I run out of adjustment when zeroing. As for the firmware update do you have a laptop or computer? If so think you can update it that way by going onto hikmicro website. Let me me know if you do have one and I will sort out a link for you to try. Hope this helps

What's your opinion on the falcons?. I've tried the fq50 and fh35 but want to try the midrange priced fq35.
Hi mate glad you have got the updated sorted thats good news. As for the falcon I looked through one at the British shooting show and it's impressive. I'm hoping to get one to try out when I have finished with the cheetah, but they are so popular it maybe a little while before I get to review one as they sell out very quickly. The footage of them on youtube is amazing and if it looks good on there the image quality will be even better in the field. Like I said when I looked through it at the show it was impressive and that was indoors. I'm getting sent the hikmicro gryphon gl35 lrf soon. I asked to try it as I think when shooting at night an lrf thermal spotter is a must have tool. So will be interesting to see what that one is like.
Sadly no mate I'm going away at the end of this month until the 7th May where I'm going back to my home town to see family and to do some more shooting for more video's. It would have been great to meet. Hopefully we can meet up at another event 👍
Hi mate I did the update and had no issues with it. I have just sold mine to my mate who has just got into shooting and now I have the new Alpex LRF. What profile do you use? I use to have issues using profile A so I ended up using the other ones as the crosshair was never in the middle. So if that's the one your using I would zero your rifle on a different profile. If you do this I would set the scope back to factory settings. Or if you know what the last update was perhaps reinstall that one again. I've heard of alot of people that have had issues. I guess I was lucky. Hope this helps and let me know how you get on. 👍
hello, I updated my Alpex, the crosses have changed and there is a red dot and the cross is in the same place after zooming, but I don't have such a zoom 1.1, 1.2 ... there are still 1next 2 and 4 left, any suggestions on what to do?? please
Hi Wayne yes no problem all you have to do is download the hikmicro app and click on the picture of the scope don't worry it shows a thermal scope but that's fine, then click the picture of the scope then scroll down and under the warranty option it should say download or update. Click that and it will download the update to your phone. Then turn on the scope and make sure the hotspot is on the scope and click the download on your phone and it should then update the scope. Takes a few minutes.

I looked through one at the British shooting show the other weekend and it looks a nice bit of kit so very much looking forward to trying it out. Hi Jay. Sorry for late reply I've been away mate. Anyway have you had any luck yet? When you try and download the firmware update what does it say? It should let you do it or it will say latest firmware installed. With my last update I did it from my laptop as it wouldn't let me do it on my phone. And if I'm honest I wish I hadn't as I actually preferred the previous update. ATB Jim
@jimwood no worries at all mate, I recently purchased the scope and it has the 5.5.40 install in, currently it says that the 5.5.55 is the newest. The one in this video is what I'm hoping to achieve as I feel the slower stage zoom option is a feature ide prefer. Currently the laptop has installed it and is in a compressed folder? I think it depends on how you have updated it. By the sound of it if you use the app it isn't as good but if you use the link found on Opticswarehouse site it does so I'm not 100% certain. I will do some research and if I find anything out I will let you know.

GSCI is the thermal gear from Canada. I don't own any but it's pretty high end.

When you go onto the PIP mode and zoom in one at a time you will see it brings the small box in closer. A great feature 👍

Yes better reticles and zoom I think I like it the 1st way but maybe better on rats and rabbits with the new way
Yes I agree. I do still like the 1st zoom especially for foxing and the new PIP mode helps with that to. 👍
