  • Hyundai’s Kona N is arguably the maddest car of the crossover class. But in its bid to be exciting, is this 280hp newcomer still actually capable of handling family duties and the weekly shop? In our most comprehensive review yet, we hit the road, fill the boot and then get the stopwatch out at Rockingham to put this £35,395 newcomer to the test, proper. And wow, does it deliver.

      Sounds like the kona n is more of a golf gti alternative than the i30n as its a bit more of an all-rounder?

      Did you cross shop a Mark 7.5 GTI? They’re cheaper with lots of aftermarket so I’m trying to decide.

      @@lotsofcurveslover I’ve actually owned 5 GTI’s. They are practical, fun but nothing like this and I love how much you can adjust on this car. It’s a driver focused track ready purposed built car.

      @@1209MArky thanks, I've driven some GTI's and I agree. Modern German cars seem to all be a bit boring. Let me know what you think of the Kona.

    Greetings from the US. The Kona N checks a lot of boxes for me. If it came with a manual I would be in line tomorrow. A very small percentage of buyers would want a third pedal so I understand Hyundai's decision. I keep coming back to this car just don't know if I would be happy in the long run. Looking for something to replace my aging WRX wagon this year. Especially after the plastic laden new model. Enjoyed your review!

      I used to be a manual lover but the dual clutch Evo X made me a dual clutch believer. I drove a Veloster N and was pretty impressed by the trans. I can fit in the Kona much better than the Veloster so this is #1 on my list right now. I had a 2016 WRX and was very disappointed by it. I think this is the closest thing to a modern reliable Evo that I can find even though it’s fwd.

      Thanks, Steve. We have to admit a manual gearbox would add to the fun, but the auto here is thankfully very good :)

    Is a Mark 7.5 GTI with a stage 1 engine and trans tune a better choice? I’m trying to decide.

    • @cinch
      @cinch  2 роки тому +1

      That would be a fun option - but we think this Kona N would be equally as exciting. That it can also be a daily crossover is what has us most impressed. You can probably choose based on body type; do you want a hatchback or crossover more?

      @@cinch although I prefer the looks of the GTI, I think the Kona might be more fun to drive. German cars tend to be somewhat dull so I'm looking for something that's as close to an Evo X MR as I can find. I got a reply from someone who's owned multiple GTI's who said that the Kona feels racier. That sounds more like what I want.

      GTIs sit too low--I just got a Kona N and probably will never get a low slung car again because all it does is make the ride choppier and the skirts--rims--and low door sills get scuffed up too easy.Go look at at GTI's or any other cars that sit decently low and take a good look at the front skirts and door sills--nothing but nicks and dings unless you are anal about driving it.
