He was crushing his front bumper into james deanes rear bumper on transition. The way they build the front ends and rear ends it's basically just a super flexible bumper with little to know metal there to get caught up, makes wall rides safer.
that's because if you watch very closely the chase car is predicting and timing their transition to happen ever so slightly earlier than the lead car, this works because every driver on grid (that qualified) knows the line that is expected to be driven in lead so the chase car knows where the lead car should theoretically be at all times. When you start getting closer to the finals the skill level of the drivers starts to even out, so the chase car has to start taking more risks knowing the lead car will be exactly where they are supposed to be and thus you have battles like this..
Huge props to James Deane. He never slowed or over exaggerates a bump from the other driver. We all know there are drivers in FD who would intentionally throw their cars off line to exaggerate a bump.
win, lose, doesn't matter...that was amazing...to be able to just drift beside someone like that barely touching..just reminds me of that tokyo drift scene where everyone was just having fun drifting with no care
Basically the angle you take (more is better ofc) the line you take in corners and how close you can follow the first car without touching it when it's your turn to be second.
The lead car is all about the angle distance you keep from the chase car, you get more points by leading with a gap. the chase car get’s points by the same thing with angle, but more importantly how well they can keep up with the lead. the smaller the gap: the more points for the chase. the bigger the gap: the more points for the lead. but either of them can suffer a big hit if they make a correction or mistake that causes them to straighten out or miss zones
Brian De Jesus just because you don’t care for a different part of car culture doesn’t mean others can’t like it. And also what they just did is probably the one of the most difficult things to do in Motorsports
@@SATANIC__VIPER In racing, high performance tires actually wear more because the rubber has to be stickier which in turn makes it more prone to degrading at high temps
This is why DMEC and D1GP still spank FD in the entertainment department. You can see the cars hanging on the door, instead of just seeing a mountain of smoke and hearing v8 noises.
The reason they are pushing as hard as they are is because they know they are being judged. Doing it just for fun doesn't bring out the best in drivers

left foot braking isn't really a technique used to slow down there's more effective ways of slowing down. Its used to momentarily give more grip to the rear of the car and thus the car will progressively angle up without making any drastic input that will upset the balance of the car. You can see he left foot brakes when he is in the lead too. i should also add that when left foot braking you typically only use 5-10% of the brake and modulate it till you're at your desired angle, Its a particularly useful skill to have on a tight track like this
Each driver does two runs, one in chase and one in lead, points are determined based on speed, angle and how close you can be to your opponent, highest amount of points win
Chase car needs to keep close and lead car needs to get away. Both need to have good angles on their drift and good racing lines. Winner is determined based on a point system following these guidelines
I think James dean is probably the best driver to chase ever, he’s just so smooth and consistent you could trust yourself to stay close because you know he won’t crash
