The one thing I love about a Supra, the radiator removal is all of a 5 minute job. Were you running a multi layered metal head gasket, everything is always so messy when ever you removes one of these heads. I removed the head off dads old 7MGTE engine when he got the JDM engine, dad said do a metal oil line return, that is the hottest part of the engine.
@@-LFATV : Hello, Happy New Year, I am writing to you because I have seen several videos of yours and I would like to know if you still have the harness that you have taken from the Supra and you can sell it to me, as you say they are old parts and they break when you remove it, thanks .
my first car was a 1989 Supra Turbo, blew the headgasket at 145k miles, ordered low mileage JDM motor from OsakaJDMmotors back in the day for $700 plus $300 shipping (wow how the prices have increased since then). First thing my friends and I did was installed a cometic MLS gasket with ARP bolts and torqued them to 72 or 74lbs if i can remember (over 15yrs ago). Anyways, joined the Army in 2006 which is when i sold my car to my friend Chris who still owns the car and its stored in a garage the last decade in a half. I am still serving in the Army and been all over the world so the car is going to stay stored until we decide to pull it out and build her up. I know the first few years when my Chris had the car he put a huge turbo on it, Apexi AFC with wideband and few other things but kept hitting boost cut. He told me a story when his brother was riding he was only on half throttle and the car would continue to spin tires at around 80mph-100mph lol, scared his older brother so bad he said he would never ride in the car again lmao. Anyways cool video series you got going, I have been enjoying them the last few days and brings back memories wanting me to go get that old Supra of mine :)
LFATV welcome I enjoy the Army lifestyle for the most part, yeah I don’t think the car will ever go anywhere, glad I still own my very first car and especially a mk3
Also the turbo not spooling till 4k is due to the turbine size not the compressor size, a large compressor might increase transient throttle lag but wouldn't affect spool range like turbine sizes do
Have you looked into the ARP insert mod for the cylinder head? The insert gets seated in all 14 cylinder head bolt holes and it helps prevent the washers from collapsing inside the cylinder head when you tighten the headbolts down. It also seems to prevent the headbolts from loosing up as that has happen to 7m owners in the past. I just picked up a 7m cylinder head from a 89 Cressida in our junkyard and I did that mod yesterday to it which my local machine/tool shop charged me $120 to ream those holes for those ARP inserts. It turned out beautifully. Edit: You do not want to completely close off that rear coolant fitting behind the 6th cylinder, you need that fitting to return the hot coolant from the rear of the cylinder head to the thermostat housing. Keep in mind the 6th cylinder runs the hottest and is the farthest from the radiator so anything you can do to help remove the hot coolant from the rear of the motor keeps a happy headgasket/motor :)
@@Rob_77 Nice. I was asking him about it a week ago and he did tell me he sold it. It was a very nice set up I remember he made with the reamer and insert tool.

Personally I have a 1JZ vvt-i in my Supra but what I would suggest for your return line would be to run a braided line to your oil pan you can usually get a small adapter that will bolt into your oil pan and allow the braided line to thread into it.
@@-LFATV also I see that you are going to be dumping a bunch of money into that car why not spend the extra $2,000 and just put in a 1jz you mentioned that mr. Gallardo was planning on getting away from Toyota you will need something better than that 7m to keep up lol

Thank you L, good work. Is your DM header the one that says keep oil filter? Or did you have to buy OF sandwich? The stock drain in the block is a giant hole that pretty much can’t get block by windage so I dunno what people are talking about on that... scrap that line kit garbage buy a quality hose and the fittings and make the hose proper the wrap of with exhaust wrap... Good pick on turbo and nice goals. E is a good idea because of ramping the boost in low rpm and holding, the knock suppression from E will be worth it not to mention the torque it yields from simply converting.
hondatech5000 im not running a sandwich plate so im assuming its the one that keeps the oil filter but im not 100% sure. But yes ima definitely use a quality line. Last thing i want is any oil issues

Hey man, Just recently started watching, and have to say you are doing a wonderful job! About to pick up an mk3 myself and ideas from this along with the budget items are where I'm headed! Keep it up man!
The optimum placement for the turbo's oil drain is directly to the oil pan. The 7M stock location is too convoluted and doesn't really promote ideal oil drainage/return.

Efficient? The BTU content is much lower in E85 than gasoline. Which is why fuel mileage plummets on flex fuel vehicles. The tune has to be much richer to get the lost power back. Just say you like buying at the pump where the cost has subsidies built in and it is less than C16.
So my head gasket blew (yes jokes come in now) but to be fair the previous owner did a terrible job replacing the previous gasket. Anyway I can't wait to go to a megasquirt ecu as I hate the stock afm. It is one restrictive... But also is so difficult to diagnose if it's bad or just dirty. Anywho my car is running again, yay.
