In 2004 I was 17 and homeless. I went to a friend’s on an offer of leftovers from his workplace. He had figured out this new thing called streaming, where you could use the internet to access a library of videos. His father was recently deceased, and he was pouring his time into learning IT. For some reason Pee Wee’s big adventure came up. We watched it and laughed til we cried. Really cried. Paul Ruebens gave us back our innocence that day. For 90-something minutes we were children again and all was safe and warm, and the world was a big exciting adventure. Thank you ❤️ PS sorry for bootlegging 20 years ago. I pay for media now.
Paul Reuben’s was so quick witted and fast thinking. He was hilarious and could instantly come up with funny stories and had perfect comic timing. He was really a fun guy to listen to in interviews
I lived and worked in Sarasota, directly across from the Sarasota HS in the 1990's, and met several people who went to HS with Paul and told me he was a little "weird" but very funny, a true comedic genius, and had them laughing all the time. They also corroborated what Paul mentioned about his skills as a circus performer in this Conan episode. I would have loved to have met him and hung around to see what kind of characters he might have come up with during the course of the day. Alas, unfortunately, it never happened. RIP Paul, you will be missed.
I’m from Sarasota and the high school used to (and I believe may still) have a circus. Students learned and performed circus acts like trapeze and tight rope. Truly unique. By all accounts I’ve read - Paul Reubens was a kind and generous person.
You are correct. The HS did have those programs. I am not sure if they still do but a very good observation. Thanks for sharing it. ps I sure do miss Siesta Key@@44kickinit
"One of a kind" does not even scratch the surface!, what a truly unique and talented man with a genuine love for entertaining & teaching children and serving/giving for decades in several charities for children. RIP, Paul Reubens
He only got in trouble because that was the 80s and people were uptight back then. Gays couldn't even get married. The world has changed so drastically that they'd cheer him on if he did that today.
I never noticed how much David Sedaris and Paul Reubens are alike. Not so much in look or sound but I could totally imagine David Sedaris telling this story.
He always talks about how he looks too old to play Pee-Wee now and has to use effects to look younger when playing him, but honestly, he looks INCREDIBLE for being 66! He could pass for 40s easily.
I absolutely Loved Him! I will miss him Dearly. He will be missed by Millions & his closest friends. I met him once & he was so kind to me! His Kindness was amazing! The Sweetest Man in the entire universe! Just an Angel on earth. He was so nice & I'm so sorry that he is gone! He was Perfect & so Wonderful. Miss you Paul, Forever!😉😉🤨😉
i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Omari Nolan I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Seth Organ What do you think an adult theater is for, the art of cinema? There wasn't many people in there and I'm sure he wasn't the only one with the gland in hand.
Big Top Pee Wee is my favorite movie, I love that it's something he wanted to do real life if he'd never been an actor. Wonderful story, RIP Paul Reubens
The same man-I'm still mourning his loss. I've watched almost everything related to Paul Reubens over a million times. Honestly, I don't know if I've ever taken the loss of a celebrity so hard.
The Saturday before he passed, I thought about his Prince Gerhardt character where he said “Thank you. Thank you all dear friends FOR COMING TO MY BIRTHDAY!!!!”, and that prompted me to watch that entire clip from 30 Rock. At that moment, I wasn’t expecting to learn about his passing two days later. I wasn’t an 80s kid (born in 1994), but I learned about Paul Reubens when I was 12 through Pee-wee’s Playhouse when it would air on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. There will never be another Pee-wee Herman or Paul Reubens. Thank you Paul for making me smile and laugh. RIP 🩶🤍❤️
I went to circus camp too, when I was about 9. It was a great experience. At the end of the camp, we each had to do a final performance act for our families/staff. For my act, I chose to balance on a wooden balance board while juggling three balls. In the middle of the act, I missed one of the balls with my hand and had to get off the balance board to retrieve them. Thankfully, I maintained my calm and composure enough to get right back on the balance board and get back to juggling, and didn't have any serious errors the rest of the routine. It was a big achievement for me (finishing out the act after making a mistake). That moment of mental resiliency paid off down the road, enabling me to develop the habit of staying calm under pressure, and I eventually earned a spot on a Division 1 sports team. Like Mr. Ruebens, I developed my skills in other areas partly due to what I learned in circus camp. Performing is performing.
The other day my 10 y/o son asked me who Peewee was. I couldn’t believe I haven’t showed him on UA-cam or watched a movie. So we pulled up the one on Netflix. We watched the whole thing and laughed. I looked at my boy and thought that’s how I felt the first time I seen Peewee. Now he’s riding his bike in Heaven. R.I.P. Peewee
If I was Paul, at the end of that story I would have said: “ and the strangest part is, none of that story is true!” Just to leave some ambiguity because basically he told on the DMV in a state worker. That’s not cool!😂
My wife went to the DMV in LA. They shouted out "Coleman" which at the time was her last name. Lo and behold her and Gary Coleman both stood up. Instantly he gave her "the Arnold face". I believe her story of this is somewhere on Quora. Gary didn't get the same treatment as Mr. Reubens, and it's not as cool as his, but still pretty funny. Coincidentally, now that I think of it Pee Wee's Big Adventure is her favorite movie. How about that.
I had a lady grade my DL written test and fixed it for me. She said “for ‘such and such’ you really meant ‘this’, right?” And I said “yes, absolutely”!
It would have been interesting if Pee Wee and Ernest P worrell. ( Jim varney) had made a movie back in the 80s. Two different comedians but both comic icons of the time
his story about famous actors at the DMV is true.. to avoid causing chaos and putting the actors at risk.. they do take them to a private room to conduct their DMV business. I don't think it is to give them special treatment necessarily.. although it kind of works out that way.. it is to keep them safe and also protect their privacy.. like personal info that might be revealed with filling out forms. And I think they have special persons at the office to do this.. perhaps persons with seniority and who can be trusted?

I want a Paul Reubensaissance. I demand it.
Poor Paul. He got burned so bad at that porn theater in the 80's, that he's even afraid of a sting at the DMV!
Gosh 80s must have been super conservative. Because nowadays, jacking off and porn is as common as shaking someone's hand.
