How to winterize 2021 Rockwood Mini lite 2509S

- In this video I go through how to winterize our camper, a 2021 Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S. The size of the socket is 1-1/16 not 11/16. The antifreeze used in this video is not the same as the antifreeze in your car, as this is safe for people and animals. I also washed it with lots of water when done just in case. Thank you for watching and subscribing!

Greta video! I follow this video every year to make sure I don’t miss anything. Nice job!,,
We have heard the same about the Liquid Dishwasher detergent, no suds and cuts grease.
Buy 2, 1/4 turn valves for the low point lines.
We blow out the water lines with air, you use less antifreeze.
Thank you
Best “how to” video ever!!! Have always paid to have the camper winterized. Just saved about $175. Thanks so much!!
Glad it helped out!
Your videos are Awesome 👌 👏!!! We have the same camper. Could you please do a video about how to use the propane, and how to start and use the heater and stove please? Thank you. Keep the videos coming.
I’ve watched about 6 or 7 videos about how to winterize campers and I finally found one I can actually follow. Thank you!
Glad it helped out!
Great video. We have the same camper so anxious to get this done ourselves. It’ll save us about $150 a year and for retired folks that’s great
Thank you !
Glad it helped out!
An extra bottle of antifreeze is a heck of a lot cheaper than winter freezing damage repairs.
I have not had any damage or any problems doing it this way. Besides where in the world is a whole other bottle even going? Lol
@@BassinNmore I wasn’t criticising your method, just saying that if someone needed a bit more for a particular unit it’s pretty cheap insurance. One thing that surprised me a bit is that they put caps on the low point hoses rather than valves.
@@robertpearson8798 right, I am not a fan of the caps.
This was a great video!!! Instead of paying $150 I spent 10 minutes doing it myself. Thank you!
Happy it helped.
Great videos, very well done. We have the same Rockwood camper. After my first year of winterizing, I found that if you use a small kitchen trash can bag, you can put it around the water filter when you remove/replace it and not spill any water in the cabinet. It works really great for me.
Another trick I do is place a pool noodle at the head of the bed on the bed frame to prevent the mattress from sliding down when you put the bed up and getting caught on the bed shelf when you put the bed down.
Thanks again for the videos.
All great tips, thank you!
I know this is awhile since you made the video, but it is still very helpful! I have done my own winterizing for several years now and am about to do our new 2509S. Watching you do yours was great. The only difference is Rockwood no longer includes a canister water filter. Instead, they give you an in-line filter with the trailer. No problem, as I was using them on our old trailer. Thanks so much!
I reference this video every year. Thanks for posting it. 👍
From the bottom of my heart thank you very much.
Thank you
Great informative video! Just finished winterizing my 2509S. Always watch you guys year after year, (even though I've printed the steps out on paper, lol).
You've helped many an RVer close up their camper. Thanks again. Hope you get the UA-cam bug back again. We enjoy your personalities. Cheers.
Thank you for the comment and the support. We keep talking about making more content and probably will agsin soon. Have a great day!
Great video! Thanks. This is our 4th camper and every year we get out the manual! I will just rewatch!
Thank you!!!
Thanks Justin and Racquel! I have a 2022 Rockwood Mini Lite 2104S and had a very difficult time finding anybody with a video or discussion showing how to use the outside connection. So this is extremely helpful for me and I appreciate you taking the time to put it out there. Happy camping!
P. S. Mine took slightly less than two gallons, and had about a quart left
Glad it helped out!
I love your videos.Thank you this will be the first time we will be doing it .Wish us luck 🤞
Best of luck to you! Hope this video helps.
Great video! Just winterized our camper with your help!! Much appreciated.
Thank you! Hope it went smooth!
@@BassinNmore yes it did, we have the same camper, 2019 model. We really like this thing!
Pour your antifreeze in your red bucket Pour leftover back in jug saves you more time great video
Nice video! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the reminder about the third valve. I was looking at it today and couldn’t remember if I needed to move it and could find any instructions when I happened upon your video. I have a Rockwood Geopro 19FBS and decided to winterize myself vs last year paying 150 for it. They showed me how last year but I forgot to video it for reference. This is the only video I ran across that showed the antifreeze valve. Thanks again.
Glad my video helped out! Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
thank you you were very helpful
Thanks! We just winterized our new Mini Lite 2109s with the help of your video. 😁
Glad to help. Thanks for watching.
Merci beaucoup! Thanks from Canada :)
Thanks and thanks for replying back
Thanks for the video, as one previous person said you showed a lot more then what they show you at the dealership. I purchased the same 2509S this past February and still had questions on how to winterize without getting antifreeze in the water heater.
Glad to hear it helped you out. Thank you!
I purchased the 2509 a month ago and it's a 2022. The process is the same and it was very thorough and helpful, thank you very much for putting this together. The Socket to remove the drain cap is actually 1-1/16, not 11/16. It's common sense but important to note the water pressure that occurs in the filter housing and it will become impossible to remove unless it's release. Great video thanks again!
Good video. We just received our Rockwood and it’s a little different from our old Winebego. Thanks for the instructions. One note though. In your city water connection you have a screen. Take the screen out and you have a small pressure release valve. Push the valve and that will release the pressure and drain that water line. Probably not a big deal but I don’t risk it.
Thank you. I did not know about that at the time, but will get it for sure next year.
Great Video… much needed advice you won’t find from the so called professionals… thank you
Thanks
Dudes sweet! I told my wife “sounds like this guy lives next to Hill Air Force Base”. 😆
Up here in North Ogden about to do my Mini Lite too!! Super helpful dudes.
We are in Idaho with the local airport just on the other side of the highway from us. I swear the only time a plane takes of is once I start recording, lol.
We go to Lagoon all summer long and started doing reviews on all the camp sites around it. Only got one this year, but will get the others next season.
Thanks guys!
Thanks for all information nice video thanks so much
Thanks
Great video! I want to buy one of these this year, especially after watching your other walkthrough video! Just wanted to mention that it appears to me when you do the hot water antifreeze on a hose (shower hose, outdoor shower hose and your line next to your outdoor burner), you should run the hot a little longer. The reason you are seeing antifreeze right away is because it's still in the hose from doing the cold, however the hot water line itself might still have some water in it further back (or maybe not 😉) Anyhow, thanks so much for another great video and I hope to check in with you after we buy our unit. Cheers!
I will do that. Thank you!
Great video, please go back and depress the city water inlet button otherwise you’ll have a leak on the other side in the spring. Remove the screen push the pin until the pink antifreeze spurts out. Happy Camping .
I almost forgot about 'burping' the city water inlet!
Never even thought about that. Hope it will be fine. I have it stored for the winter in and indoor insulated building?
Damn I'm late to this comment, we're FINALLY camping the first time this season (I have the same 2509S) and I missed depressing the city water inlet last fall, and as you mention it leaks when connected, so I'm filling and using the tank. Do you know how to fix?
What is the 'city water inlet button'? What is 'burping' it? Do you mean moving the valve back to city water mode from antifreeze mode? Thanks!
Never really thought about winterizing a camper. You have a nice rig!
Unfortunately we have to with temps getting to -20 and lower sometimes. Thank you!
Good video! I bought a non keyed lock for like $5 on Amazon for my outdoor shower so I don't have to go find my keys the two times per year that I open it!
Nice, I have not used it once in two seasons. We use the hose next to the outdoor fridge instead.
Ok 👍 got it thanks! Nice video now I just need to find one on filling the tank and figure out the hot water re circulation to shower haha
Great reference video for out 2021 2507s. Dealer said we could just drain all the water like you did, blow out the lines with air and not use antifreeze that will require much flush out in the spring.
That is true. I used to just blow the lines out in my old camper, but I don't have a large compressor anymore. Thanks
Personally I think that $15-$20 worth of antifreeze is pretty cheap insurance for a $40,000+ trailer and I’m sure the manufacturer puts that antifreeze port on there for reason.
You are welcome, saves time money and better for the environment to achieve the same results. Ockhams Razor!
Thanks 🤙🤙
Thanks for the vid, great help as it’s our first year with a mini lite. I think you may have forgot the city water intake. You have to remove the gauze and push the button to let the antifreeze through. I didn’t see this in any of the comments. Other wise I will be following this vid to winterized my trailer.
I dod not know about that until after as somone else did comment about that. I still had no issues with when I picked it back up after winter though. Thanks
@@BassinNmore not enough water stays in that line to worry about. It's often higher than the pump anyway.
Thanks for the video. I couldn’t get a mop bucket in my compartment for the water filter , so I just turned on my pump and let the filter housing drain the water out
Thats a good idea, glad it worked out for you! Thank you for watching and commenting! Have a great day!
This is way more thorough than any of the videos I watched from the dealerships! Thanks a lot for the video! Mine is a Flagstaff Micro Lite 25LB and this was super helpful for a first time RV'er.
So glad it helped you out!
I pump some antifreeze into the black tank flush using a hand pump.
That is a good idea. Thanks!
This is a great video thank you i use this as my check list this year i think the hot water element plug is 1 1/16, not 11/16 as you said if this is true you might want to edit your video to say that insteacd. Again, thank yoou for for videos, I enjoy them.
Thank you for watching and glad it helped. The element plug is 1 1/16, and I did make the correction in the description of the video.
We Live in Maine and just Winterized ours today, 2021 Rockwood MiniLite 2205S , I dumped a bunch of antifreeze in the fresh tank and just pumped it through, we don’t use the fresh tank to drink from anyways
That works as well. Did you use more antifreeze doing it that way? We use ours for cooking and the dogs water as well, but you can always clean the tanks in spring to use again.
@@BassinNmore yes I used 4 gallons and after I ran out of every faucet I drained the fresh tank and cleaned it out so got 1 gallon back, we don’t dry camp so we never use the fresh tank ever, we are always at a campground with full hookups so only use the city connection
@@Northeast_Mainiac thank you
Great Job! 👍
Thank you
I have the same RV, on the low point water drains I went to Lowe's and purchase two valves and threw away the plastic caps.
Thats a great idea
That was not the heating element you removed to drain hot water tank. 😄
Nice camper
Thank you
I just did our 2509s, but I went the compressed route, 60 psi, until every line is empty of all water, it takes a couple of times for each line, then about half a gallon in each p-trap. Makes sure u depressurize the water heater!!! Learn the hardway as the anode rod flew out, could have been ugly!!!
Compressed air......
That is how I used to winterize. At 60 psi I bet the rod came out really fast. Glad you are ok!
Great video! Should you go back and crack open the low point drains to make sure they have anti-freeze out to the ends?
I have never heard of anyone doing that, and for the last three winters I have had no issues yet not opening the low points. Thank you for watching!
Good job but just a note; the rod you pulled out of the heater isn't a heating element, it's a sacrificial anaerod. It slowly deteriorates saving your heater. You need to check this once a year and replace once a year or you'll destroy your heater.
Thank you for the info! I will add that to the list for when I replace the water filter.
Wow, what an awesome job explaining all the steps to be done. Thank you very much for all the help.
I do have a question about the Shower miser.
Do you have to flip the lever and run some anti-freeze thru that also?
I just brought home a 2509 s and there is so much to learn.
Thanks brother, God bless.
That is a really good question. I would have to say yes though. Thanks for pointing that out, I will do that this winter.
Turning on the shower miser for 2-3 seconds will be enough.
@@aguyandhiscomputer Thanks my friend, that will help us all out.
@@ojibway3 yup, just run antifreeze through everything and you're good to go.
Missed opening the low point drains again to get antifreeze out those lines.
Thanks a lot for your video. I just got may 2509S this year, and it is also my first camper. I have three questions, 1, the filter is too hard to take off, would it be ok just let it be with 1/5 water inside? 2, You have turned 3 bolt switches to the other side under the counter, when shall we turn them back? 3, Similar with 2, you turned the switch near the the filter, but didn’t see when you turned it back. Thanks again.
If you open the low point drain the filter should become loose again. I don't turn any of the switches back until I get it back in Spring and de-winterize the camper. Then I put all switches back and flush with bleach water.
I've seen others put an empty water bottle in the place of the water filter, so you don't use as much antifreeze. But the antifreeze is pretty cheap anyway, so not a big issue. I also use air compressor @ 40 to 45 psi to blow out water in lines prior to adding antifreeze. 😁👍🏻
The water bottle is a good idea! Thank you!
Antifreeze pushes all the water out so air is really a waste of time. But it makes people feel better so it's personal preference.
@@aguyandhiscomputer Wouldn't the antifreeze mix with the water and dilute it? Just saying...
@@xplor1301 no, not in 1/2" lines.
Great video but might want to run the hot water a little longer to insure the water is completely out. Open then closing real quick because you see antifreeze could just be the antifreeze from the cold water getting pushed out by clear hot water
True, thank you.
Great video
Thank you
@@BassinNmore very welcome, your vids are very helpful
One bit of advice. Empty your fresh water tank. Then open a faucet and turn on your water pump. Watch your filter because it will start to empty. When it is almost empty shut off the water pump. No more spilling water inside your camper👍
I will definitely try that next year. Thank you!
@@BassinNmore I know it works because I did it yesterday on my 2021 mini lite 2205S, lol!
@@stevez340 I wasn't saying it doesn't work, lol. Just saying already winterized mine and put it away this year. I am getting older and by next year I will try and remember this.
@@BassinNmore I understood that. I was just joking that I had actually done it less than 24 hours earlier👍
Great job at explaining ....... kudos!!! Can you do a de-winterize video? :)
Will do!
ua-cam.com/video/l6L89FGzZU8/v-deo.html here you go.
Need a mike for your video. Other than that great information. I also have a 2021 Rockwood Mini Lite which i need to winterize. I live in Illinois and am thinking about wheel covers and also greasing jack stand post to protect over the winter.
We ordered a wireless mic this week, lol. These are both great ideas as well! Thanks
Pour 3 gallons of rv antifreeze into a bucket. Winterize the trailer. Anything leftover can be poured back into the gallon jugs?
Next year I sure will.
@@BassinNmoreI just got out my list for wintering my Mini Lite 2205s as I plan on doing it this week. I will update some things, such as one reply stated, removing the screen on the city water connection and making sure there is no water in the line. There is usually a low spot in the hose where it enters the trailer. I believe the black tank flush can also have a low spot where water can lay in it. Always learning something new! I also empty the gray and blank tank when I am done to remove any water that accumulates while wintering. Good luck with your future videos!
Are you sure the socket isn’t 1-1/16” for the hot water heater?
Omg, you are totally right! Wow I can't believe I messed that one up! Thanks for pointing that out.
Yes, it's a 1 and 1/16th, he got confused.
Really informative video. Quick question: I assume that the water pump isn't damaged when the jug is sucked dry? Thanks.
It can damage the water pump if it runs for a long time on an empty tank. The pump will get too hot and damage the rings. I already had to replace my pump for that reason.
@@BassinNmore Gotcha. So as long as I turn off the pump quickly after draining the jug, I should be OK.
@@jlantz3691 yes
we found out by accident that if you leave the low drain cap off and loosen the water filter it will drain over half of the water out of the filter to avoid water getting all over the floor when you remove the filter
I am going to do that next time. Thanks
We’re looking at this exact camper how do you like towing it with your half ton ram
It tows very well. We do have a bighorn with the 3.92 rear end so it is capable of 10,700 lbs and 1750 gvwr.
What about in spring how long does it take to flush this all out before its safe to drink again?
You will have to wait for the video in spring, just kidding, lol.
It is super easy and takes just as much time as it does to winterize it.
In your fresh water tank you put 1 tablespoon of bleach for every 10 gallons and water, and 10 gallons is plenty to clean the lines. You then run every faucet, toilet, shower, ect, until the antifreeze is gone and you smell the bleach in the water.
Then drain the bleach water out of your fresh water tank and refill it with clean drinking water and repeat the above process on every faucet, toilet, shower, ect, until you no longer smell the bleach in the water coming out.
Them install a new water filter and drain your gray tank and black tank at a rv dump and you are ready to go for another season with clean fresh drinkable water.
Why did you open the water heater pressure relief valve?
Opening a faucet does the same thing.
Sure, that works as well. For me its just the ease of it all being right there and not having to go in and out of the camper that much more, lol.
@@BassinNmore definitely 🙂
@@BassinNmore you in the Mini Lite Facebook groups?
You just ran water into the grey and black tanks are you going to empty them again?
I don't because I also ran each faucet far a couple of seconds after the antifreeze came out so there is also antifreeze in the tanks now, plus they are both 30 gallon tanks so even if it does freeze there is not enough water in there to damage the tanks, but it all honesty it would probably be safer and smarter to do so. I will next year for sure.
Should you pour antifreeze into sink drains the p traps hold water
I thought that the antifreeze that came out of the faucets was enough for that?
I usually add a little extra to my drains. Better safe then sorry. Good video
@@scotthornback4348 thanks for the advise, I will do that.
@@BassinNmore You are correct, the amount that comes out of the faucet is sufficient.
Suggestion, get a remote mic for your camera, that is if ones available. Otherwise great content.
Thank you for the feed back. I actually havenit in my Amazon cart to order tomorrow! Lol
I have those same water valves. They are not marked which way is open. Or which way the water flows. Very confusing. Any suggestions?
If the valve is going the same direction as the lines are then it is open. If the valve is sticking out to one side or the other it is closed.
Which battery maintainer do you use that you mentioned at the end of the video?
One just like in the link I provided before. It is a charger/maintainer. I set it to 2 amps and let it run all winter.
amzn.to/39sse1E
If I live in an area where the lowest temp is about 35-40 degrees and only for about a couple of weeks, do I still have to do this process?
I wouldn't. The only reason you would have to is if it gets below freezing. This way the pipes don't burst when they freeze. We get to -20 here and are below 32 as a high for most of winter.
@@BassinNmore thank you for your response!
NEVER put that water bottle in filter. It restricts your flow to rest of unit. Caused me lots of headaches.
I have been having issues as well this last season and am thinking about cutting the filter out completely.
Any problems with the slide? Or any leaks from the slide?
Nothing wrong with it at all. Why? Do you know of an issue with Rockwood slides?
@@BassinNmore I have a couchmen bought new a few months ago and slide already leaked . Just got it back from dealer so won't be able to try it till spring now.
@@brentheatherington9187 sorry to hear that! Hope it is good now and you can enjoy it all next season!
