We have a Viking 17BH and we love it but it's been all sorts of insignificant issues due to poor craftsmanship too. The trick is to keep on top of all the little things before they get worse, just like you mentioned in the video! If you pay attention to detail and sort things out right away, it doesn't get out of hand. Loved hearing your list! We try to learn from everyone's experience and look out for all the details you might overlook! Thanks to both of you x

You guys are great. Both of you point
Out these issues but with such a good attitude. Rockwood should repair all of these issues for you because of your kind way of pointing out some poor workmanship. 😎

Thanks for the video. We just got our 2022 2509S and I will be looking over some of these trouble spots before we start using it. Preventive maintenance is always better than having to make repairs when you are out and about.

We have a 2019 2104s that we bought brand new in 2018. We have over 6000 miles on it. Very very few issues with it. The only warranty items we had were the toilet, Dometic had a batch were they would hold liquids and after a while they stunk. I was able to swap that once the dealer got us a new one and the letters on the very front started peeling and again the dealer shipped up new ones I have yet to put them on. There was a small piece of door trim to the bathroom that came unstapled but I have an 18ga pneumatic stapler and fixed that super easy. I've done a couple modifications to it, added a dimmer over the dinette, added USB outlets on my side of the bed, I added a counter extension similar to yours but ours never came with one so I had to work with the Rockwood parts dept and local dealership to find one that would match. You can make the windows open a little more by cutting some plastic bits. Oh the latest thing besides maintenance was I had to replace the front vent cover as ours cracked but I never found evidence of it leaking. We used to camp in this secluded area down a 2 mile gravel road and the windshield did get a chip but after I installed mud flaps on my truck and havent had any issues since. We love our Rockwood. We started out with the cheapest thing we could find because we didnt know what we wanted. We found a 2104s after a few years and then when we decided to buy one we couldnt find one. a few years of calling around and waiting we ended up driving 250 miles out of state to get one. We'd do it all over again. Rockwood makes a quality product.

So sorry you've hit these problems. I wanted to get an RV or van, but after seeing youtubes about the lack of supervison and simple inspections in the factories, changed my mind. Apparently, one tuber said that industry makes its money on camper financing, makes crap products and overloads the dealers with repair issues. Doesn't matter how much you spend. Shame shame. .No idea why this industry is not regulated and actually all paperwork you sign says you can't sue anyone. Doesn't make sense to me. Run, don't walk to a different hobby. What a shame.

Thanks for the video...table fold- up is a good suggestion. I have 2019 version of the same camper. Our model has the radio up over the Fridge where the digital screen can't be seen without a step stool and is a major pain.... We finally removed the gas stove in the outdoor kitchen. We never used it. I have made place to mount a small propane camp stove and feed it with the gas fixture. My wife actually cans fruit and makes jam while we camp. That also puts the stove at a better height for short folk. The stairs have been pain. We folded them down one time and my wife stepped on the first step and the stairs sprung back throwing her off backwards. The stairs also drop dirt in the door sill. The outdoor grill mounts nicely on the side of camper and has worked out well. We usually do not take the grill with us on long trips because of the amount of space it takes.
Overall we don't care much for the newer floor plans. We're both in our mid 70's and getting into the bed is a challenge, though the memory foam bed is quite comfortable. The freshwater tank drain spigot broke after two years. It needs to be relocated to where it can be reached. We find the shower and tub to be quite adequate.

So, new watcher, although not a new camper. That piece of plastic on the side of your dinette is really easily fixed. The first part is popping off the screw covers- that's all the little round bits on the outside. Then, unscrew the screws. That should release the piece of plastic. It's simply covered with a piece of "leather" to match your dinette. You can get replacement plastic that's a little thicker at either Lowe's or Home Depot. If you are at all handy wtih a dremel, cut it to fit, using the old piece as a pattern.
Also, if you get tired of using rags on the bottom of your bed? Furniture felt from Lowes and a glue gun. Cut it to fit all the way across, take off the rubber thingy, and glue it on.
PS: this may be our next camper. This video was spot on - all campers have problems.

Thanks for this! Good info, and important to know if anyone buys one! Might seem simple to you and others, but it can save your bum! Had anyone told me that on my Airstream 23FB that if I saw condensation on the windows, I would have floor issues from water damage I would have saved $26,000. (The cost of repairs.) Airstreams are great, almost airtight, seldom leak, bla bla bla. I just assumed that of course Airstreams would have channels or tubes ro route window condensation down and out, nope! We humans cook, shower breathe and that makes moisture that collects on the windows when it’s cold. I had no clue until my foot went through the floor by the bedroom, and was told the entire floor needed to be replaced. Had I KNOWN, I could have prevented that!

Thanks for sharing, I have a 2019 Flagstaff FBRS. My biggest issue I've had so far is my plastic fender wells were not sealed and were only held in with 3 screws, one on each end and one in the middle. I added many more screws and sealed up the gaps with caulking. So much for quality workmanship. Good luck with your rig !

To prevent any damage to your slide (which we had problems with on our 2509S and since we fixed) you should never open your slide half way. if you have this type of slide you need to open it up all the way and close it all the way, never half way, and never ever step on it while in, since it will knock it off the tracks. This was told to us by both the dealer and Forest River. If you need to use the toilet while traveling you need to open the slide all the way through

We have had our 2023 2509S for almost three months. Agree with your comments on excellent design and build quality. Rockwood has addressed many of your issues on the 2023 models with tweaks. I would expect that. One aspect that is not so good is the TV/entertainment system. to accommodate the Go Power solar charge controller, they picked a TV with everything built into it. Works o.k. Have had better in my previous trailer. Showstopper happened due to plugging in our essential (to us) Apple TV. Both HDMI ports are poor quality and/or poorly installed. Have to wiggle the connections on both ports and hope it hooks up. That is unacceptable so I sourced what I believe is a higher quality TV with a built in DVD player. Also got a portable Bluetooth soundbar. Still installing, so hope it will be an improvement. Also ordered a mattress upgrade. the factory mattress is comfortable enough, but it makes noise when we move like plastic crinkling. Yes, I removed the plastic wrap. Both upgrades are not unreasonable and will only make a great trailer even better. All in all the 2509S is a terrific trailer and your video was excellent. Thanks!

I'd already noticed the stair issues you mentioned, was concerned that the sink handles felt a little shaky and even noticing the seating edge being kinda flimsy, but the table trick when moving is genius! Also, since we've only had it a month and been out on just 1 short adventure, these tips are gonna keep our new-to-us Mini Lite in the best condition possible. Thanks a million for the video. We have a 2507s and have found the following in our experience…1 replace the taps they are cheap plastic and will eventually break 2 replace the curtain hook with a Command velcro strap 3 not sure about driving with the table on it’s side..I would be concerned with it continually bouncing on the slide floor during travel 4 never put anything in cupboards without being wrapped or contained..your couch trays will bounce against the back of the cupboard door in travel if just thrown in cupboard and the things in the outdoor kitchen cupboard need to be in a cardboard box or plastic container to protect the walls…if they are loose in the box pack towels around them to stop them from bouncing around…packing for travel comes with experience and you have learned a lot already. Good point on protecting your floor from the bed rests 😊…happy camping!

Thanks for sharing. We have a 2016 Rockwood 2304DS for about 5years now and have enjoyed it. Our main problems through the year thus far was the water filter canister freezing and cracking thus causing water problems. One of the decorative moldings above one of the slides came loose and also had to replace a valve on toilet that cracked through the years and leaked. Hade to replace freshwater drain valve cause the turn valve broke off and could not be opened or closed. We finally had to replace the CO2 sensor after four years. It kept on beeping of and on. I was told they need replacing after so many years as a maintenance. Things wear out through the years, other than that we really hadn’t much problems with our Rockwood. Oh yeah, keep an eye on your seals and make sure they’re water tight, mostly on the outside on your roof.

We have the 2020 2509s and we love it. The only trouble we've had after 3 seasons are the refrigerator door face (user error) and the Murphy bed. We forgot to secure the refrigerator door and the banging during travel caused the front face of the door fall off, it's just glued on. Watch the Murphy bed frame/legs. We noticed that they were falling apart and I think this one was poor design or something was missed in the manufacturing, because the legs and part of the frame were just held together with long U staples (stuff happens). Luckily our dealer covered the as a warranty repair. We are very pleased with our trailer and once we get rid of the kids, we're looking to buy the 2516. Great couples camper.

We have the same camper and the dealer told us to be careful stepping on the slide floor when it is in because it will break away from the dinette seating cabinets. The slide floor only has a few screws holding it in place. The dealer did have a solution however. If you do want to step on it while the slide is in, place 2 door stop wedges under the slide floor to support it. I put one on each side of the kitchen island. You just have to remember to remove them before you put the slide out. The large white door stops from Walmart work good.

Don’t let your steps slam shut. They will jump past the side frames. This results in you hoping you have enough tools in an external compartment to fix this. Loosen one or both side catches on the steps. Replace and align them to catch the side frames. Just takes a gentle touch to keep this from happening.

Traveling with the table unsecured on its side instead of in the ‘flattened sleeping’ position is asking for trouble. Also pro-tip: install an outlet beneath the bench on the window wall of the slide! It’s super handy when using table for desk when husband is working while camping and needs to plug in laptop and cell phone.

    • @BassinNmore

The table is not unsecured when we stow it on its side. The things that the table sits on when in the flattened sleeping position store it tightly in place. It has been working out great for us. Love the idea of the outlet there, I installed a 12 volt usb outlet on the side of the bed next to the pantry as it did not have one there.

I have not read any of the other comments so this might be a redundant comment on my part. Regarding your side table "bolt coming out" statement, I think you will find there is no bolt - the piece you pulled out simply screws back tight, with no missing pieces, like you did when you tightened the one on the other side. Happened to us and I promise you that is all I did to put it back tight - but be patient with how many times you have to turn it for it to tighten fully.

Hi guys. Just came across your video. We have a 2019. Not too many changes in 2 years, but it was fun watching since we have practically the same trailer and we also love it! Only difference, is ours is the 2507S. This model does not have the bunkhouse... since we are retired, and kids are grown/gone we didn't need it. However, the 2507s doesn't have quite the same issues as yours. The outdoor kitchen is twice as big and has actual cabinets, so no problem with storage. Since there are no bunks, the bath is bigger with a linen closet. In the galley, the sink is set at an angle to the stove, so that creates more space between it and the table, so even with the slide closed, you can still walk to the bath. It's a tight squeeze, but not bad. Yes, the table folds, but standing it up right is a good idea for your model. Good call. But I will admit I had to LOL that you didn't know it folded at first.
As far as the side tables for the couch, we 86'd those b/c we never use them.
Have not watched many others of your videos, so hope this is not a repeat. But we did pick up one of the Renogy 100-watt suitcase solor panels and it works great keeping the batteries topped. With a 10ft cord, I can easily place it on the trailer roof above the bed and simply drop the cord down to the plug and get power and it's not in the way at all. Since it is the suitcase style, I can clip a rope to the handle and pulling it up to the roof is easy peasy.
    Happy camping.

We have a 2022 2509s that came in back in September and we are really enjoying it so far with no real issues as of yet. For the bed legs we removed the round pegs and got some peel and stick felt pads at walmart and cut them to fit under the bed legs. What kind of gas mileage do you get with your Ram while pulling your camper? We just got back from our longest trip (200 miles one way) and our 2018 Ram hemi got down to 7 mpg. We stayed around 60-62 mph but it was very hilly the whole way.

We almost bought a 2509S but ended up getting a Rockwood Roo 235s (hybrid) for the spaciousness (plus we like the canvas). It has the same table, and I've been folding it down for travel and placing it flat on the bed support stoppers, but it still shifts and slides a little during travel. I like how you put it on its side in between the stoppers. Can you comment on how yours has done when traveling in that position? Any movement or shifting? TIA!

Regarding the MoreRide step and door closure. The steps don’t seem to pull up all the way so that they outer stop contacts the inner frame. Maybe that’s because I’m not totally level, but the screen door hinge has an L bracket which is easily bent and a couple of screws which are easily loosened, by trying to press the stair further back using the lightweight screen door on light weight hinges. Like you show, you need to push the steps back into contact with their stop. I think this is hard to do while you’re closing the door but it does seem to help. A better idea That I have not tried yet might be to use a bungee cord maybe off the hook for the fire extinguisher just inside the door to help position the steps further back onto the stop.
I don’t know if there is a statement in some manual somewhere that you have to be level before closing the door. You better not decide that you need some thing out of the trailer when you have just pulled to the side of the road because it will not be level. I had to learn that and back up further to a level spot to close the door easily. I found I should always close the screen separately and gently before the outer door since it tends to hang up and can warp the hinge. I’ve read owners’ group statements that these screen door hinges get bent and need to be replaced from stock.
The rubber feet on your Murphy bed legs obviously need to be replaced with a longer footpad or at least duplicated to spread out the force along the entire rectangle contact patch of the leg.

    • @BassinNmore
      @BassinNmore  2 роки тому

I am actually finding its not about being level at all so much as it is about making sure the legs on the steps are set to the proper length. If they are set to high the door can get damaged if you try to close it or just not close at all.

Is there a reason you don't take this back and have the dealer fix all of the build quality issues for you under warrantee?
