We are so fortunate to have had most of these people on this earth. There are just some people who have made the world a remarkably better place, and I’m thankful for their lives.
Before teaming up with Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein collaborated with the great Jerome Kern to create what is widely considered to be the first "musical"....the transition from Broadway operetta to the modern musical....."Showboat". Such great tunes as "Ol' Man River", and "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man O' Mine". Today, "Showboat" is often considered racist, but actually it's just the opposite. The main them of the show is ANTI-racism. Think of the comedy "All in the Family" where the bigotry is laid out for all to see, thus diminishing it more so than any protest. "Showboat" did much the same.
Clark Gable was and will always be the only King of Hollywood, God bless him. Ward Bond is the actor who has greater number of movies among the best in the history of the cinema. Rip.
At the time of his death, Johnny Horton was married to Billie Jean Jones, who was married to Hank Williams Sr. at the time of his death. She's still with us, last I knew.
Your comment on Jesse Belvin's death made me curious, so I looked him up on Wikipedia. It's so sad that he, his wife and their driver died in that apparent manner. All he wanted to do was entertain people.
Today marks 1 year since my mother passed away. Today is also my birthday. Thank you for giving me these minutes of reflection along with your videos. ❤
I remember the Johnny Horton song! I must have been five years old! Now I will read 'Doctor Zhivago.' I actually never heard of Nevil Shute before but I just bought one of his novels on Amazon. Well worth the time to watch this video!
Her father was John Barrymore who died in 1942 and was a part one of the most successful acting families with his brother Lionel and actress Eithel her half brother was John Drew Barrymore . Dianna was an Aunt to actress Drew Barrymore.
Thank you 😊 for posting this. Sad to say, but most of these people I have never heard of. These are very informative 😊. A few died at a very young age 🎉. Such a shame. May they all rest in peace 🎉❤😊. 4/20/24.
Ward Bond was great in Errol Flynn’s “Gentleman Jim” playing boxer John L. Sullivan. He was in such great condition it’s hard to believe he died so young from a heart attack.
1960. Year i was born. So many famous people left us. Some of these people were born shortly after the US Civil War and lived to see the automobile, the telephone, heavier than air flight, WWI, WWII, space exploration, international travel, overcoming fearsome diseaaes we dont hear mich about anymore like the polio vaccine, measles, small pox, ricketts, etc. What lives they had!
Roy Chapman Andrews wrote many books for children about fossils and archeology. I had several of his books when I was a kid in the early '60s. The character of "Indiana Jones" was partly based on Andrews.
Richard Wright and Zora Neal Hurston died in the same year? That's like dropping an atom bomb on African-American literature. They were actually nemeses, as Richard Wright unfairly criticized Hurston for what we'd call "incorrectness" today, leading to her 'cancellation' until Alice Walker (The Color Purple) rediscovered her masterpiece 'Their Eyes Were Watching God.''
you missed A.P. Carter of the Carter Family-- country singer and songwriter Nov 8th 1960 aged 68 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._P._Carter

Emily Post would be horrified by the lack of etiquette in the 21st century.
Clark Gable was and will always be the only King of Hollywood, God bless him.

They. Both. Also. Performed. Their. Last. Shows. At. The. Same. Place

It was definitely a very suspicious “accident.”
Now I'm curious to look him up.
😮
Indeed. May they rest in peace.
Looks like he went to the crossroads, if you believe in that stuff.

Sorry about your mom. I still feel a real loss about my mom's passing 37 years ago. But I wanted to wish you a belated Happy Birthday today.
@@kmo3811 Thank you very much for sharing your experience with me. It means a lot to me. Thanks again 😊
Wish you all the best!! ❤👍
sorry for your loss.
@@geoffallshorn5167 Thank you ❤❤❤
Clark Gable was one of Hollywood's biggest losses in 1960...

So many car accident deaths that year.
Yes, I noticed that. Remember, this was before seatbelts were mandatory on cars.
Better than that, airbags 😊
I literally came here to say, what was with all of car accidents!
@@bobgargiulo802people drank heavily then and more alcohol related accidents in those days and it was before seat belts were mandatory in cars.
Too many car accidents. And wonderfully haunting music.
No seat belts. I think some of these folks would have gone on to live long and productive lives had they had them.
I remember the Johnny Horton song! I must have been five years old! Now I will read 'Doctor Zhivago.' I actually never heard of Nevil Shute before but I just bought one of his novels on Amazon. Well worth the time to watch this video!
I looked up Diana Barrymore and that was John Barrymore sister not daughter.

.... thanks for adding George Zucco, he never seems to get mentioned in Hollywood deaths....
Loved him in some of the Sherlock Holmes films.
R.I.P. Ward Bond. First Wagonmaster on Wagon Train.
He stared in many john Wayne movies
He and John Wayne were longtime friends, they played college football together...
Diana Barrymore was so pretty!
I found the reason for Melvin Purvis' passing very intriguing given what he did for a living. It has my eyebrows raised.
Ward Bond was great in Errol Flynn’s “Gentleman Jim” playing boxer John L. Sullivan. He was in such great condition it’s hard to believe he died so young from a heart attack.
R.I.P. Jesse Belvin.
I enjoy the music you play on your tributes. Thank you.

The billionaire 'Oren Trask' in the 1988 movie 'Working Girl', who invented sliced bread, must have been based on Otto Frederick Rohwedder.
Lost so many great and talented people that year. Especially the The King. Clark Gable.
Great video. This was the year my parents got married!
My parents got married in 1960 too!
You forgot about Caryl Chessman, who was executed that year after he had become a famous writer!
In those days being 50 and 60 wàs considered seniors and the hard life of the greatest generation
So sad. These are the people who were famous when I was growing up. We thought they were immortal.
❤🎉
Im so glad u included jimmy horton I'm obsessed with him
Enjoyed as always. Thanks
So many car accident deaths!
What about Leonard Warren?

Just Curious, Are You Gonna Do The '50's Next?
Amazing how many people in their 40s and 50s died early in these eras.
