I had to watch the 'series' again: so many very interesting build options. Mr. Simon, I see many amateur astronomers stating that they are building a new observatory, when in fact they build NOTHING. They have purchased a pre-built product and with a screwdriver and a wrench, they assemble an observatory. You are the real deal, and you have created a real masterpiece. I'm preparing to build a new observatory this coming spring - the slab has been poured, but I ran out of good weather to continue. (I'm in Canada) I will utilize some of your great ideas, and as you have done, take my time to ensure that the end product is excellent. Thanks again, Mr. Simon. Excellent video and as many of your commenters have stated, your work man ship is extremely good. Be safe and clear skies.
What can I say Jonathan! Thanks so much for your kind comments 👍 I’m so glad you found my build useful! I’m working on filming part 5 now, I’ve just motorized the roof, so hopefully another video soon! I wish you good luck with your build next year in Canada, thanks again and clear skies 😀
I really enjoying your build. You put great care and thought into this build and it shows in what you have done. I look forward to seeing the next roof and inside finished.
You have made an exellent job Simon, credit to your grandson also :) It`s been inspiring to follow all 4 episodes. I`ll begin to build mine next year (if my wife is in a good mood) Thanx for sharing!
@@SimonsAstro I know the feeling mate about the weekends been self building a house in France for the last couple of years, trying to get the last 1000 roof tiles on before the weather turns, then I can start first fix lol
Thank you Simon for sharing this build. I would love an observatory but I'm a little limited on space and have opted to build a pier for the time being.
Hey thanks Tom! Shame you don’t have the space for an observatory, but a pier will be nice not having to keep setting up the tripod and levelling it👍 Clear skies!
Coming along beautifully mate your building skills show the care you take in your work. Make sure you install a dehumidifier to keep moisture levels low you don't want dampness or a humid environment in there.
Wow! Simon, what a fantastic series of videos to go with a fantastic piece of construction. Can't wait to see the next video. I agree with Ollie's Astro, it is always good to watch a fellow craftsman at work. Well done Simon.
Hey thanks Stephen that’s much appreciated! Really glad you liked it, I’m working on part 5 now! It’s always better to watch other people work 🤣 Clear skies👍
Thanks Marc, if only mate! I consider myself lucky as the wife was adamant I was not having any of our small garden to build an observatory, but then she gave in and said I could 😀 Only thing is, if now got to revamp the garden at my expense!! Clear Skies
I'm so impressed by the build of your observatory. The way you have built it with the cladding etc means it's not only going to be very functional but also a nice building to look at in you section. Roll on obsy build part 5 (or should that be.... roll off 😁)
Always great and interesting to see your progress Simon! You even did the outside paneling and roof insulation yourself..wow. 👍🏼 5:26 looks SO cool - and your NGC 7822 as well! cs
Bloody hell mate, looks great. Wish I had those skills to build stuff. I don’t know what ob1 and other stuff is, but this will be a game changer. Setting up and dismantling is the worst part of this hobby. Clear skys
@@HogarthsAstrophotography Thats great, I'll see you there! Unfortunately, i am driving up for the morning only, as I have another engagement in the afternoon back home!
Looking great Simon. Love the plate mount for the motor. great idea and will hold that nice and sturdy. Almost there mate. How much is it a night to stay??
Hi Simon, great work! I have a pier to cement in, ( no room for an observatory) but enough room for my 120 also. Qucik question what do you use for cable management ties? My set is almost identical except my cables are everywhere :-) thanks!
Hey thanks Simon, I use two types, actual small plastic cable ties and reusable Velcro cable ties! See link below to video, you can probably get them on Amazon 👍 Clear skies mate! ua-cam.com/video/ZukKT6ftVss/v-deo.html
looking very nice mate, very tidy. Love the hardy planks look. You looked very nervous about that wind blowing the door. It did sound wild like. Im wanting to put some of that installation in mine at some point. Quite like the motor you fitted looks very robust. Where did you get that? looking very much forward to the next stage. Clear Skies Simon!
Hi Ben, thanks for watching mate! Glad you liked the video! Yeah I was worried out the storm coming and leaking through the polythene on the roof! That Celotex insulation should help keep the heat out in the summer and cold out in the winter 🤞 part 5 is under wsy mate😀 The motor came from Amazon, see this link Ben, cheers mate and clear skies! www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B09MRTBLQY?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image
@@SimonsAstro super! I will have a look at that. Cheers. I have had a drama getting my vid out computer was crashing alot so had to sort it. Having said that, trying to get it out tonight or tomorow night.
Hi Thomas, thanks for watching! Yeah the rigid foam board (Celotex) insulation has much higher insulation properties! Probably a bit more expensive, but works well! During the summer, my garden shed is so hot I can’t go in it, but the obsey (which is basically a shed with a moving roof!) it’s cool when you go in! Helps keep an even temperature! Clear skies mate👍
Well, why should I stop now - Wonderful workmanship: you are an extremely skilled talented fellow astronomer. Thanks, Mr. Simon.
Thank you Jonathan, kind of you to say😀 Clear skies!
This job is nothing but a masterpiece. Corey did it well, he has the position for my own!…
