Excellent video and review Simon. I'm thinking about building another rig (just can't help myself) and have been looking at the Altair stuff, will definitely be keeping an eye out for this scope.
@@petesastrophotography Wow Pete😀 Thank you so much for the extremely generous super thanks mate! Great video Simon! It's always really useful for a newbie like me to see information on alternative scopes. Important, so I can begin to understand what they can do in comparison with what I've got! Just got to get my head around different filters and how to use them!!!
@@jeremyhigginson9307 Thanks Jeremy 😀 You’re not such a newbie now mate, you’re producing some nice images now Jeremy😀 If you’re using one shot colour, then you could try something like these dual narrowband filters, look up some narrowband targets and give it a go! The Ha & Oiii I used came out well!Good luck mate and thanks for watching 👍👍
Wow, great score being able to review a prototype scope. Certainly looks like a nice telescope. Great image at the end and the filter seems to have done a great job with no halos present which is a major plus. CS
@@LogansAstro Thanks Logan, much appreciated! Yeah I was surprised when I was asked if I wanted to look at some new equipment, I had no idea it was a prototype! Hi Simon, Wow, what a jewel! I'm surprised you got somewhat of a clear sky with NEW EQUIPMENT. That final image is awesome. Was that just the Ha/O3 filter? Very impressive. I noticed you had your supervisor (the feline) keeping tabs on you while setting up the scope. I'm still washed out here with clouds and boatloads of rain. Here's wishing for more clear skies for you.
@@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy Hi Pat, thanks for watching! Yeah, what you don’t know is I’ve had the scope for at least 3-4 weeks!! @@SimonsAstro ... Ah hah ... I knew you couldn't have been so lucky with clear weather upon arrival of new equipment. That makes me feel better, ha. That’s nice. But I’m caught in between the 60 and 70mm now. I’m looking to use it as secondary scope on same mount as my 115edtx and then use either one as guide scope. I think a 585mc on the 60-70 mm and the 585mc pro on the 115edtx. Any thoughts or inputs to this ?
@@meibergstrmandersen9181 Thanks for watching Kenneth! The 115edt focal length at 805, is similar to my Esprit 120 at 840, I use the 50mm Evoguide for a guide scope on that rig, which works fine! Consider the weight of a guide scope! The 60mm Quad weighs just over 3kg, the 70 is a little more! Both would perform great as a guide and as a secondary scope! There’s only 50mm between the 60/70 (300/350) I think I would use the 60 as a guide scope! Good luck with your decision 👍

Many 60mm aperture quad or more optics scopes around nowadays, if this is very new latest from Altair then they are late, i could get one like 2 years ago but i didn't, in fact i prefer my Askar FRA400 over it, i even will choose Askar FRA300 over it which is same specs but Askar is a Quintuplet instead of just a Quad.
