- In this video, I take a PROTO 2000 Series SW9/1200 locomotive and do a complete conversion from DC to DCC with sound and add extra details to enhance its appearance along with an operating beacon and ditch lights to complete the project. Enjoy!
Great job. Looks and sounds awesome!
Awesome job !
Thank you
Super job. Thanks for the tips.
@@johnd9541 welcome. Glad I could help
Thanks for a very inspirational tutorial Wally. I went out and bought a s/h SW1200 (exactly same chassis) and have already taken it apart - following closely your guidance (so nothing wrecked!). I think I can get the ESU 58823 over here in the U.K. but could you tell me please, what mini cube spkr. did you use? The size might be useful in case I can’t get the brand you used - there’s not a lot of room, as you indicated!! Thanks again, Wally
@@adrianrowland1902 thank you so much. I’m glad I could help out. I used ESU50321 11 mm x 15 mm mini cube speaker. It comes with a sound chamber. Let me know how it all works out and once again thank you.
What kind of speaker did you use ? What size ? I might do this DCC mod to mine
@@Michael-wm5jl I used an ESU Loksound #50321 mini cube speaker.
Excellent tutorial, thanks so much!
You’re welcome.
Wally. Very good video with explanations of all of the wiring. Very educational for those who need to understand how all of this works.
Thanks Mark.
Hello again Wally. I’ve been working towards organising things for this conversion.
I found in the Loksound listing of sound files that there are several that seem to cover the 567 and might be good for an SW1200. Could you please tell me the number of the one you selected please? Thanks very much.
PS I did hover over a Soundtraxx Tsunami 2200 but wasn’t convinced I could squeeze it in because the wires at both ends seem to make it awkward to deal with in the space available
@@adrianrowland1902 sure I can let you know later this evening what sound I used. Just so you know I pick sounds that may not be absolutely prototypical but close. I tend to find sounds that I like more than anything else. :)
@@wallysmodelrailroading thanks Wally - I’m certain you’ll have a much better idea of a good sound for a switcher than me. I’ve only ever seen a US loco on UA-cam etc!!!
@@adrianrowland1902 hi Adrian I used ESU sound file S0829 for the SW1200.
@@wallysmodelrailroading thank you for checking that for me Wally
Wow, what a great project! Looks and sounds great. What beacon light did you use? I need to do this to a
N&W Switcher now!
@@flagman515 thank you. It’s an LED that is programmed using an ESU Lokprogrammer set to rotary beacon
@@wallysmodelrailroading Much appreciated 👍
Fantastic tutorial, and I think I have a couple of these Life-Like Proto 2000 switchers in a box somewhere, and will have to dig them out, and install the same Loksound decoder.
And if you will enable the UA-cam "Thanks" button, I'd like to buy you a coffee.
@@What_If_We_Tried This is my smoothest running locomotive after installing an ESU decoder in it as I’m sure you know they have fantastic motors.
@@wallysmodelrailroading Yep, very smooth running locos that can move at a crawl without hesitation. Mine, has warped handrails along the side of the engine housing, and I'm wondering if I remove the shell, if they'll straighten out if I quickly pour boiling water over them.
@@What_If_We_Tried I’ve found the handrails can bend back to shape fairly easily. At least I think so…..
