How Peloton Can Compete In The Crowded Fitness Sector

  • With an inspiring story, robust team of instructors and a hyper-engaged community, Peloton became a household name during the pandemic. Peloton’s stock surged more than 500 percent by December 23rd 2020, quickly boosting a small startup into mega cap status in less than a year.
    But as the economy reopens, gyms and in person studios are also attracting people to work out outside of the home. Competition of the at-home fitness space has also increased with companies like Tonal, Hydrow, Lululemon’s Mirror and Apple offering their own fitness equipment to customers.
    In early November 2021, Peloton reported disappointing first quarter results that missed on earnings, revenue projections and full-year guidance. It showed slowing demand for its products and an anticipated increase in marketing spend. Can Peloton continue to be a dominate player in the at-home fitness space?

    To be correct, Peloton made spin class cool again not cycling. Peloton doesn’t simulate any sort of cycling experience. That’s where Zwift comes in. Zwift made indoor cycling cool again and does replicate outdoor cycling pretty well. I’ve tried Peloton and it does not in anyway feel like I’m riding outside. Zwift does.

  • @jasonplus10
    @jasonplus10 2 роки тому +22

    The thing is, they’re asking people to pay $2k for a piece of equipment that only does one thing. People will get bored quickly if the only workouts they are doing is cycling (or running if you get a treadmill) day in and day out. You need mix up your workouts otherwise you’ll get burned out, especially for those people that don’t enjoy exercising. Before you know it, pelotons are going to be saturating the secondary market because people stopped using them and are looking to sell, bringing their overall value down. It’s a fad that will be going away soon.

    Peloton is new Apple of fitness. People can buy Samsung or other cellphone if not Apple. You got what I am saying .People like luxury and Peloton is health with luxury. Not all people like driving all the way to gym . If you consider obesity population then it’s clear not all go to gym and would definitely prefer alternative as peloton. Considering apparel they will also compete with Nike and Adidas in future as Peloton brand name is already all around and people also like to wear luxury. Also imagine outdoor peloton gyms too accessible only to peloton subscribers. This will have flexibility for both indoor and outdoor experience exclusively for active subscribers for peloton.. This will shut all the negative analysts

    I think Peloton should partner with hotels and include the bike in hotel rooms. Especially with the pandemic making people fearful about community spaces… having a bike or treadmill in a room and the incremental fee to use it is added to the hotel stat, the visitor doesn’t have to go for or feel apprehensive about workouts while traveling.

    Regular full gym membership are $10-40/month, why would someone spend that much just for ONE piece of equipment?

    • @USNEM

    It just company selling people what they don't need just what they want. People when pushed to do something will stop in long term. While people who just want to do it for the sake of it will do it long term. That's how neuromarketing works, you think you need something that you don't actually.
    People keep buying stuff for the sake of it. And then cry wolf for not having any money.
    And yes, if you maintain an average of 3 miles per day you will do 1000 miles in year.
    That being said if I took leaves, vacationed or being sick, I do double time on my bike for few days to maintain the average of 3 miles per day to achieve 1000 in a year.
    But that small average keeps me doing some day 7-8 miles or12 miles a day. So that's I challenge myself.

    I wonder how much they paid CNBC to publish this puff-piece after all of the bad publicity. They have a good product but it is horribly overpriced.

    in real life when you cycle/run you have the wind or breeze to cool you off also you are breathing fresh air. but this way you are inside in a room where the CO2 is gonna accumulate and your body is going to heat up very quickly since there is no wind or breeze to cool you off, unless you put a fan in front of you which doesn't fix the CO2 accumulation problem. Its idiotic.

    I've experienced the last 50 years of an explosion in fitness and healthy lifestyle promotions, just to watch the population become more overweight and obese... to the point that they are the majority now. Meybe using fancy, expensive machines to "trick" yourself into being healthy is not the solution.
