Clapping/applause in a Roman Catholic Church is highly inappropriate as it is secular and an action for human recognition and acclaim, not for the adoration and respect of God.
Those present applauded the newly ordained priests. What's despicable or wrong with that? The service was over and the visitors rejoiced for the new priests.

I am actually in total agreement with Pope Benedict on his observations about applause at Mass in _Spirit of the Liturgy_.... John XXIII and Pius X had some powerful words to offer as well. But may I suggest you are being just little too pious by only one-half?! What about all of that secular organ music? Didn't you hear it? The Vierne Symphony 1? That's concert hall stuff. And geez... a double strike against it... that would make it.... French... in a German Cathedral! (What have the French done for Holy Mother Church lately?) That music certainly can't be giving glory to God, can it? I noticed a lot of secular people out in the crowd too... they're probably the ones who started it. Those new priests need to drop to their knees and do some reparations for that little outburst, and then get to work... the German Church is truly going to hell in a hand-basket!
In die Hölle? Sehr gerne, denn Religionen basieren nur auf Lügen Lügen über Lügen, Manipulation und Abzocke durch die Religionsvermarkter! Es reicht! Es gab nie Götter und Jesus auch nicht! Kann man heute alles nachprüfen....
