Thank you VERY much. An American from Boston, Massachusetts. It's a beautiful hymn and I was touched by how much it moved Barfing l Cardinal Woelke. Cardinal Meisner said it did miracles.

@@einzigartiggeschaffen7280 Thanks so much. That's very kind. Many years ago, I was in your beautiful land as an American soldier Although I traveled some and met many wonderful Germans, I never visited Cologne. My Sister has visited this stunning ancient cathedral. I enjoy the music very much. The altar servers are wonderful, especially at the beginning of Mass as they create the "aisle" for His Eminence before the altar as they genuflect in unison. I've not seen anything like it. I am an old man now. I was sent from your beautiful land to Vietnam and war. Mary protected me. Thank you for your kindness. God bless you and those you love. Forgive me for never learning your language. I can ask for a beer and thank the server. 🤣
The singing of the final hymn to Mary, the favorite of the late Cardinal, is clearly the most touching portion of the entire obsequies. The cutaway to Cardinal Woelke standing before the altar singing in tears is very moving. The recessional, with Dr Bonig's playing, was powerful. Cardinal Meisner was a GENUINE church LEADER of COURAGE. An Apostle who loved the Lord and defended His Body. There are much too few in leadership today especially in Germany. There are practically none in Rome. That has been planned.

Please, who is the gentleman in the black cassock with surplice - appears, from his collar, to be a layman - who attends His Eminence (miter and crozier)? Walks with the MC. Has no other duties. Thanks. (Boston Massachusetts in the United States of America)
The pontificals are carried by an assistant to the bishop. He is usually also available as a chauffeur and is a layman. The other priest, dressed in black, is the master of ceremonies of the Cologne Cathedral. He is responsible for the liturgically correct course of a celebration.
A tradition and a song that makes us see and hear the beauty of God.

I didn't realize the Catholic church was so relevant in Germany today.

There is a very great number of bishops present. Where are they all from?
