- What is a Catholic's perspective on Salvation? Fr Christopher Smith gives a detailed, yet concise history (relative to the scope of this topic) of the many scholars who attempted to define how to obtain salvation: sin, grace, nature, salvation, sanctification and justification.

I appreciate the clarity of this presentation, and the fact that one can stop the video over and over again, in order to see how one's personal experience, or usual way of thought, relates to what's being said, and can both be better understood for its worth, or for its need for enhancement, with the help of this presentation.

I appreciate this because I'm talking in circles with Catholics. Now I can hopefully talk not in circles.
Faith does not come after salvation. For, Romans 10:31-32 says "but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works." So we see that you pursue righteousness through faith. Not the other way around. And Jesus says "whoever believes in him will have eternal life" John 3:15 and "and you are unwilling to come to me so that you may have life" John 5:40. So we see that we come to Jesus and believe in him for eternal life and not the other way around. And you see that we are saved by Christ and not by Christ and "in the Church." It is by Christ alone through believing in him alone.

Fr. you need to make more UA-cam videos on Catholic Theology. There are very few contents in comparison to the myriads of Calvinistic contents.
Just looking how few people actually go to Confession today compared with how many go to take Holly Communion gives you an idea on how much “Catholic” people are today.
Christ says to the Father: Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me, but your will, not mine, be done.
Did Christ limit himself to doing the Father's will? Wasn't it supposed to be his too?
On the cross: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
"Why have you forsaken me"? But did Christ not know the plan of salvation? And was He not in agreement with him?

Why is Jesus, the Son of God, a man and not a woman?
Knowing that "God doesn't play dice", there has to be a deep reason for this fact.
Because He (Jesus) is the (Eternal Son) of God. He existed in all eternity before His incarnation as The Only Begotten Son of The Father. Therefore it would be fitting that He be a human man. Also when God created the human being, He created man first and then He created the woman from the rib of Adam.
Salvation is in the simplicity of Christ. This guy complicates salvation. 1Cor.15:1-4, Ephesians 2:8-9, Ephesians 1:13, Romans 3:25 Romans 4:4
I would add Romans 2:6-7 to that list
@@Mkvine “Context” This verse has nothing to do with the New Testament plan of salvation. It describes how God treated the Gentiles from Noah to Christ. In the Old Testament, if a Gentile lived right and continued to do right, God gave him “ eternal life” In the New Testament, if a Gentile does not have access to the scriptures and yet lives right, the Lord obligates Himself to get the gospel to that person so he can receive Christ and get “ eternal life” Two examples of this can be found in Acts 10:4, 13:48.

@@johnp.6043 The “context” does not say anything about the Old Testament. Rather, the focus is God being impartial in his judgement towards Jews and Gentiles, there’s no favoritism. You said that the Gentile gets
eternal life by God leading them to the Gospel. But Paul, after saying people receive eternal life based on their good works, calls this his “Gospel” in verse 16. So even if God leads a Gentile to the Gospel, we just saw that eternal life by good works is part of the Gospel. Second, your explanation of the OT fails to account that the OT is something in the past, while Paul is talking about a *future judgement* in verses 6 & 7. So this means that for Paul, works still play a role in salvation in the NT era since there will be a future judgement based on works. Third, verses 6-7 say “every man” will be judged by works, so that must include Christians - people already under the NT gospel.
@@Mkvine ( Vss. 2:16) “ In the day” The day here is the day of God’s Judgment. This is a climax of the argument from ( vs.12). This judgment is the final judgment, The Great white throne judgement for non- Believers.
This goes future into Revelation 20 This is after the 1000 year reign of Christ ( vs12) They were judged according to their works ( deeds).
A Christian that is saved by grace through faith “ plus nothing” is not appointed to the wrath of God.1 Thessalonians 5:9 , but must appear at the judgement seat of Christ,( 2 Cor.5) ,Not the “Great white throne judgement”.
Romans 2 is speaking of the OT law( vs13-15) gives further insight into the Gentile salvation in the Old Testament, “ thousands” of Gentiles were saved in the Old Testaments in writing ( Deut.5:10; Acts 14:16-17; Rom.5:13):The story of Abimelech in Genesis 20:9), shows you that a heathen understood God’s moral code perfectly, and when they followed their conscience, God honored their actions and showed them mercy.”
( Jer.40:1-4; Gen. 31: 24 -29)

This is all more strange, since Adam was created similar to God and Eve created out of man!
What then is the role of man? We still have a lot to know!!

Amen. I'm watching this to try to understand the Catholic gospel exactly. Are there other videos you have found that explain this? I think it would be extremely helpful in trying to use the scriptures to reason with the Catholics.

@@lordspongebobofhousesquare1616 The gospel "good news" of Jesus is that Jesus saved us by washing away our sins if we believe in him. That's what I believe in. No extra work is needed to achieve salvation.
I’ve learned a few things through this fruitful lecture. Except when he downplays Luther; maybe Fr. Smith forgot his medieval history. Almost everyone, if not all, in the medieval world was deeply concerned about salvation and the afterlife. Hence, Martin Luther was no exception. God uses Luther to voice against the abuses and man made dogmas.
You can always protest, that's what all Protestant do...
