    I always wondered what that key fob looking thing was in my glove box. Thanks dude.

    This works for older Audis only. The 2017s and beyond don't have an "emergency" key.

    Thanks for the example of how the chip reads on only the vehicle with which it is paired. But can other Audi emergency keys unlock the door? Or is the emergency key specific to unlock the door to the vehicle it's paired?

      All the 3 standard keys including the emergency key works for 1 vehicle only. If you want an extra key for the vehicle and or use one key on a different vehicle, the key needs to be programed with either ODIS software or Autel Maxsys software or another special tool

      Remmeber that all 3 standard factory keys all have been precut to use on the original vehicle's doors & glovebox.

    How do I replace the emergency key? And is it as expensive to replace and the regular keyfob?

    • @MotorHeadTech
      @MotorHeadTech  3 роки тому

      The actual key itself is what allows you to manually physically open the glovebox. It is the same key found hidden in the Audi electronic key fob, press the silver button & there it is. It will cost $$$ to replace it & reprogram it. If it's just the bulky fob from the emergency key that youre missing then that's cheap

      @@MotorHeadTech yes I was talking about the plastic mechanical key with a chip in it.

      @@EJR20 going to the Audi dealership would be the only way not only would they have to cut your new key to your car's pattern but they also have to program it too

      @@MotorHeadTech I’m in GA and I heard that this shop called Autobhan performance are certified Audi specialists so they are cleared to cut & program Audi keys, so I’ll give them a shot and see how much I’ll save relatively to the dealership
      Update: so just the adapter for the plastic mechanical key costs $110 and the mechanical key costs another $120ish. Does the spare key adapter also have some kind of chip inside it in order for the mechanical spare key to work? I’m thinking to get the mechanical spare key from dealer and adapter from amazon or second hand. I’ll probably ask them if it needs the adapter. Another interesting thing, on top of that, can I get a used adapter and buy a new spare key and have it work with the used adapter to start the car? I mean does the adapter also need programming?

    Thanks for the video but why would Audi create a key to be left inside the vehicle 🤔 I call it stupid

    • @MotorHeadTech
      @MotorHeadTech  3 роки тому +1

      The black plastic electronic-less giant fob stays inside the glovebox & it does not power on/nor start the car, since the chip is located on the physical plastic key, which comes from factory attached to the 1st set of your Audi electronic fob on your key chain as an attachment along with the leather Audi branded strap. There are 2 parts to that key, one cannot work if the other part is lost/not in use. Thus the point is to keep the electronic-less fob inside the glovebox while the plastic key is what the owner takes with him/her to lock the car manually (since that is literally and figuratively the key to open & start the car). Thus it's the 3rd OEM key made for an emergency or for valet.
