No doubt Brooke and Jason always do thorough research to insure they do the very best for their beloved animals/babies. I admit I shed a few tears. Hearing the concern and pain in Brooke and Jason's voices was real and powerful. Checking the eggs was mandatory for Nugget's survival. I look forward to seeing Nugget running throughout the pastures, picking at shoes, checking out Mama Brooke's earrings and being his normal, wonderful self! Nugget is beloved by everyone. He can now start to recover his strength and return to his 'Sheriff-ing' duties.

I saw a guy hand raising emu eggs and he thought one was a NO GO cuz ZERO movement ZERO whistle. After a bit of time it DID hatch

I saw one breeder (maybe same one) who was ready to open one with a drill or elec. saw, & it moved before opening the shell. Whew!
I've read they are extremely hard to hibernate.
If you google this, this is what I find Gently tapping the air end of an emu egg will give a duller sound when the chick is filling the air space. Eggs that make a sound like china being tapped could be infertile or bad.
It sucks when you click on a video and the 1st comment always spoils the whole video
The fact that at least one egg was fertile says that in fact Nugget did do his job. It is heartbreaking that none of the eggs were viable. However if and when it is meant to happen, then it will happen. No matter our heartbreak, I can’t imagine Brooke and Jason’s heartbreak. Yet they may have saved Nuggets life. In the end that is most important.

I'm so glad you checked so that Nugget didn't have to sit any longer for no reason. I feel bad for him, but he may just be relieved it's over because apparently his instincts were telling him they were not viable.

Jason you need to have a talk with that young Nugget about girls that come by strutting their stuff and drawing the boys in! He showed that he has a heart of gold for Goldie! I think it was a really good decision to check the eggs. Let him recoup from this incredible dedication he just showed us and let him get back to being the sheriff! I bet you can hardly wait to have him wanting his snuggles with you again. ❤❤
Poor Nugget sat all that time for nothing. He did what comes naturally to him. I find that simply amazing. I'm so glad you decided to pull the eggs when you did. You did what was best for him. I do feel for both of them.

I think Nugget didn’t know to do step 1 breed with Goldie. He went straight to step 2 sit on the nest.

I was waiting and watching; I was so concerned for all of you. I could feel Brooke’s disappointment. Y’all did the right thing for Nugget. I remember y’all saying from the beginning that y’all didn’t think Nugget and Goldie had mated. Let’s hope Nugget gets up soon and gets back to normal. What was a surprise was that Goldie took an interest in what was going on and hung around the perimeter . From everything ya'll were reporting , wouldn't have expected her to have paid any of that any mind at all . 🤔

He’s so good letting you go under him to get the eggs. It’s almost like he knows. At least you know that he is capable of sitting when there is a next go around. Poor Nugget and Goldie. You made the right decision. I remember how worried Lester was about Carl’s condition when he was sitting. Weird Mother Nature starves the parent to sit on the eggs.

How to check for movement is to put them in water. The egg starts wiggling. If they are fertilized and close to hatching. That is what this youtuber does. His page is called A Chick named Albert. You definitely made the right decision.

I am SO thankful that Cog Hill Family Farm has two emus, male and female, that are both social and 'good natured with most other domesticated animals'. That, in itself, is a true Blessing. Yes, potential babies would have been appreciated and well loved. So Thankful for your concern and wise intervention . Once again, the three of you are conscientious and dependable care-takers !
