My great grandmother was known as the Chow Fun lady. She came to Hawaii around 1875. She made her own chow fun noodles and went door to door selling her chow fun dish. I was told that she was the first to have chow fun in Hawaii.

I remember back in my youth growing up in Hawaii, we use to rush to the local Okazuyas to get some Chow Fun before they ran out! Miss those days!! Life was so much simpler back then. 😘🤙🏽🌺

We used to get chow funn regularly as a school lunch at Roosevelt High School in 1957. It is my most memorable school lunch, with beef or char siu. I need to know how to make this. Gotta use the Hilo noodles, though!

You know whats great about chow fun is that there's less vegetables in it. Us noodle lovers love that. You're changing the traditional integrity of chow fun. You're not making pancit or chow mein dishes, which you can then add all those vegies. Adding veggies is a cheap add, so why insult chinese cooks...are u not an asian? Perhaps you should review the Aloha spirit.

I remember buying "fried noodles" and "pork hash/shumai" from the manapua man back in the 80s, when I used to visit my cousin in Ewa when it still had a lot of people living there, before all the new houses.

Thanks for a great recipe! I agree that Chinese restaurants skimp on the veggies. We can put as much as we want to make it both delicious and nutritious!!

    Dear friend,
Thank you very much for sharing that cooking recipe with us. I enjoyed watching it.
As a subscriber, I should appreciate if you can demonstrate us how to cook "Chicken Magic Bowl" (Le Bol Renversé Poulet). It is a Sino-Mauritian recipe gaining popularity whereby to prepare it:
One puts chopped chives at the bottom of the bowl.
Then one adds a poached egg with the shinny liquid egg yolk facing down the bottom of the bowl.
Afterwards adds the chicken chop suey.
Next one heaps up the rest of the bowl with steamed rice.
Finally one covers the bowl with a cooking plate, rotates the bowl 180 degrees and removes the bowl.
The difficult part of the recipe is to prepare the sauce.
I hope that you can show us the secret to preparing the sauce.

looks terrif I'll be trying this soon. I finally went to foodland today and saw the Sun noodles, bought the saimin, but resolved to find a chow fun vid & found it! I knew what the ingredients were, having ordered it since I was a kid (5cents chow fun and 5 cents salad) after school, but my dad never cooked it. As okazu places close, our ability to just buy it gets less and less.

The comment about Chinese making plenty money is a bit racist, even though that may not have been your intent. I might suggest not disparaging the fact that the ingredients are fewer at a Chinese restaurants and compare yours as "fully loaded." Many cultures like to keep the ingredients simple just to let the star of the dish (in this case the noodles) sing.
Still, recipe looks interesting. Its definitely not how I learned to make it. I'll give it a try.
