Modifying the MK4 continues!
So I thought it was about time to update the sound system in the mk4 and the best way to start was by installing a new Sony stereo, definitely sounds so much better!
Today I do a aftermarket stereo install, a stereo installation is quite a simple task especially a mk4 golf stereo install. Think of this as a how to install stereo in car or a how to install stereo video :)

Luke Budd hello! Quick question on your VW mk4 radio install, was the connector harness for power/gnd only a 4 wire (black harness)? Thanks

trust me, you'll want radio when your phone is doing your head in and your usb is still in the house.

HUGE MISTAKE IN YOUR VIDEO!!! For the Mk4's you need to "cross" the Yellow (BATTERY) and Red (IGNITION) cables if you're using the stock ISO cable harness (that's why they have those special joints so you can re-connect those 2 cables easily). The way you connected them, your stereo will reset (clock/etc.) each time you remove the key from the ignition because the ignition cable from the car is connected to the battery connector on the stereo.
Can elaborate on what you mean by cross? And the whole process generally. im having this issue at the moment and the radio doesnt always turn off when the car is off
@@mariosaliasi5563 In between the new wiring harness you have bullet connectors going from red to red and yellow to yellow - you need to pull them apart in the middle of the new harness (only the red and yellow connectors) and then fit the red connector to yellow connector and yellow connector to red connector to stop the settings being wiped out when you turn off the ignition. What this chap will find out is his clock and date settings and lots of other settings will be wiped off, his presets on his stations will be OK (usually) as on new models radio station presets will be saved to the flash memory on board the device, this is non applicable to him as he didn't connect the radio. This is a poor demo on how to fit an after market car stereo, keep searching ;-)

Had that very issue with an Alpine installed with the aftermarket ISO plug adapter, in my previous Audi TT 8n.
The install shop only managed to resolve it after my 3rd visit.
Thanks for this, I've been living with the belief that my car wasn't properly built... 🤣🤣

oh no, Ed Sheeran doesn't like cassette players, why don't you try to go to a thrift store and find blank cassettes, or go on Ebay and buy a cassette and cd recorder and record your own music onto cassette! ;) I'm not trying to insult you.

I have that head unit it’s fucking terrible on phone calls the microphone picks up more road noise and car noise than voice during phone calls !

1:55 Why does my Golf MK4 have only the lowest power supply connector? I tried plugging it with that one only, the radio works but no sound, how can I fix that?
I was wondering how to connect up the CD autochanger to the new radio? Got a 2004 Volkswagen Passat with a new radio and I think whoever put in the new radio didn't connect the CD player. I was wondering if it was actually possible...

The old one is worth around 120€ and of great build qualitie! While the new one is cheap and also looks terrible!

costs a little extra for extra lead if you got steering wheel controller function

Hello bro ,you should change those wires because your sony doesnt start where you left after turn off. The wires to bes change are red and yellow.

I have just bought a sony mex-n4200bt on ebay but realise the seller didnt have the original power cables in. My car is a fiat grande punto 2007, does anyone know if I can just get a stereo fit set on ebay and don’t need to original power cables from sony?
I’ve just bought a minty Golf colour concept MK3.5 cabriolet for £250 and its come fitted with that Sony head unit….
On the Mk4 (I have a V5) you can buy a genuine cubbyhole that sits into the CD player slot and don’t forget if you want the stereo to turn off using the ignition on VAG stuff then reverse the red and yellow on the adapter cable.
Also another good mod is to remove all that horrible rubber coating off the switches etc.

I enjoyed your video but I need some help please. I have a Volkswagen Golf Avantgard Cabriolet 1997 2.0 litre. As you can imagine the stereo is ancient. It has a CD changer in the back, but my question is, can I get a modern stereo, (usb/bluetooth), that can also control the cd changer?
As far as I’m aware I don’t think it’d be possible to have the cd changer work and a modern stereo, it’d have to be custom made to make it work.

No DAB tuner or is it that bad I head about it in UK? Here in US & Canada we have HD Radio which isn't great but not available in many areas & SiriusXM Satellite Radio which works from Middle of Mexico though Northern Canada & covers partial Alaska & Hawaii also. Sound quality is worse than HD Radio on it though.

I have just bought this stereo for the inside of the boat as it has Bluetooth. I have had lots of speakers outside on the deck and the wires always rust with the seawater ! so I thought brilliant get a Bluetooth speaker or two if it will take it and then I can take them in and out of the cabin when not in use So avoid having to connect it up to wiring and replacing lots of speakers all the time although they are supposed to be waterproof and are in a recess but they still Rot, has anybody ever tried Bluetooth speakers with this particular stereo ?

I prefer Double Din Touch scree. Head units. I have a Pioneer Double Din Head Unit from Amazon. I have installed GPS, steering controls, FM radio, and power via adapter cable.

Those cables you've pushed to the back are going to make a racket. You should maybe have covered them in cloth tape first.

What size is the engine in yours? I feel like you've stated this in a previous video but I can't remember. Also what would you day the ideal price to pay for one is/ideal engine size?
Mines a 1.9tdi pd150 (basically 150bhp) it was around £900 and is in pretty decent condition. Obviously the more you pay the better car you get! (in theory) but still can get a good one for around £1,000 - £1,500

I believe it is still in demo mode, i am not so sure, I installed my stereo like 2 years. You have to turn your key in the ignition without starting your engine. After that, hold the source button until on the display you will see the time, after that you can go into the settings and you will have a lot more options like setting the caution alarm off, that 3 times beeping that start when you turn off the engine. I hope this can help you, but if not, maybe we can find another solution to fix your problem,
@@shitsheet7277 it wont work.. you cant swtich any cables because its just one jack that delivers all the power and its made so you can plug it in only one specific way.. and if the car is older lets say 1995 then it wont deliver any power to the stereo when key is out so the stereo wont remember its settings ..
