Another inspirational RGFM video. I am getting back into fishing and getting geared up. Relatively, I know next to nothing about fishing in the South. Back in 1986, when I was learning to fly C-130s at Little Rock AFB, my buddies and I, we would watch Roland Martin, Houston and Dance. I always wanted to fish and catch largemouth bass like that. But that is the extent of my bass fishing knowledge. I have fished and caught salmon, tuna, barracuda, red and vermillion snapper, halibut blue-gill, catfish and beaucoup trout. But other than stripers/striped bass, I have never targeted and fished for bass or crappie.
Well, it is darn near 40 years after hearing Roland Martin yelling, 'Whoa son' and we are retired and officially a Sons and Daughters of The South. Yeah, my wife of 35 years is Canadian and fully embraces the true Southern Culture and lifestyle. Needless to say, we are ready to go after some slab size crappie.
Richard Gene reminds me of the real Southerners from the land of Dixie whom I encountered in my many missions South of the Mason Dixon Line. People like Richard are why we chose to move to the South.
Other than my 11 years as an enlisted Marine and later a USAF 'zero"(officer) and aviator, I was born, raised, lived and raised our family in Southern California. I have been many places in the country, darn near every state and other countries in the 'free' world. In my experiences and travels, the people who treated my fellow service members, crew and myself the best, were common folk in Spain, Portugal, The Philippines, but there were no finer people than the folks in the South. Hands down, the people in the South were genuinely the most easy going, pleasant and hospitable.
Hopefully, either on the Tennessee River, at a hunting and fishing show or at a bait-n-tackle seminar/clinic, one day, if the Good Lord is so willing, I hope to cross paths with Richard Gene. I get a peaceful easy feeling listening to Richard's 'down-home, country, salt-o'-the-earth presentations. Listening to Richard Gene is not only educational, 'IT IS GOOD FOR YOOU!

I’ve noticed that you are one of the most gentle sets I’ve ever seen. Now, with that said, I see your setting hard in this one. Is that because you’re under a dock just want to get the fish out from under before it wraps around something? Just something I noticed. Great video. Thanks Richard

Jigs and soft plastic grub worms and crappie cocktail by procure will help you land crappie. Also procure has trophy bass. This is amazing attractant they take live forgadge fish eat and make a paste with it for amazing attractant. Plus, you get several casts before having to reapply. Use a descent amount to get grub worm nice and smelly and slimy. It'll draw fish to your rig and crush it 😊❤ plus if you use a lure that attracts crappie with crappie cocktail you'll catch crappie. Also, a jerkbait with trophy bass equals a nice bass. ❤😊

I found out in my early teens just how particular crappie are a friend and I were fishing off of a small bridge and there was a tiny hole in the bridge for probably draining water off in a rain and one of us had a big bright idea of putting a line through the hole down to the water well hmmm we started catching crappie one right after the other what we would do is get one on the line while other reach around and took the fish off to put on the stringer we absolutely could not get those crappie to bite other than sticking the line down through the tiny hole in the bridge that was the craziest thing I had ever seen and it told me just how particular crappie are when they feed so yeah I didn't do much crappie fishing after that but I do like watching others catch them
